Purchase College, SUNY, seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Art History to teach Museum & Curatorial Studies and the Arts of Africa and/or the African Diaspora, to begin September 1, 2022.
The successful candidate will have expertise in one or more aspects of the Arts of Africa and/or the African Diaspora as well as professional experience in curatorial practice, a critical approach to the politics of collection and display, and scholarly dedication to rethinking art historical methodologies and geographies. We especially seek applicants who are prepared to take on a significant role in our MA program’s Museum & Curatorial Studies specialization, teaching courses and developing research, curatorial, and other types of collaborations for students with the Neuberger Museum of Art, located on campus.
Teaching responsibilities include the equivalent of five courses per year plus supervision of senior projects and master's theses. A senior project is a college-wide undergraduate requirement and signature feature of the Purchase curriculum.
