Position:
The Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies in the College of Liberal Arts invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Modern Judaism, to begin in August 2023. This is a tenure-track position.
Qualifications:
Candidates must hold a Ph.D in Religious Studies. Applicants whose teaching approach demonstrates a commitment to issues of diversity, equity and inclusion in higher education are particularly encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities:
Faculty are assigned an instructional workload of 21 credits (4-3) per academic year and are also expected to maintain a robust research agenda. The successful candidate will be able to teach introductory level courses in Religious Studies, including Introduction to the Study of Religion; Introduction to Judaism; and Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, as well as upper-level courses in their areas of expertise and one course per year in Towson’s MA program in Jewish Studies and Leadership. We especially invite applicants whose work touches on issues of gender and sexuality, racial identity, or lived religious experience; we also invite applicants who could complement and expand the department’s existing offerings in American religion.
Undergraduate and graduate advising is part of teaching responsibilities. The successful candidate must have the ability to work with a diverse student population and be sensitive to the educational needs of these students.

The Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies offers a major in philosophy, a major in religious studies, and both a philosophy minor and a minor in religious studies. The department’s courses commit to helping students partake in engaging discussions and research related to the history and development of philosophical and religious perspectives.
