Does this mean 7 people have logged that they have received the request? Or they are only requesting reference for 7 candidates?

Description: The University College at Virginia Commonwealth University is seeking a full-time non-tenure-track faculty member for a 1-year renewable appointment in the Department of Focused Inquiry beginning in Fall 2019. Three-year renewable contracts are available after three years of employment based on positive annual reviews. Faculty members teaching in the Department of Focused Inquiry participate in shared curricula, with the expectation that students across all sections of a course achieve similar learning objectives. Primary teaching responsibilities include instruction of UNIV 111, 112, and 200, which students are expected to complete in their first two years. This three-semester, interdisciplinary course sequence is learner-centered and promotes integrative thinking as well as student engagement, with a particular emphasis on written and oral communication, critical thinking, collaborative learning, information fluency, and ethical reasoning. Faculty are expected to participate actively in faculty development programs, including faculty learning communities, and to serve on committees within the University College and across the University. University College academic programs seek to promote an interdisciplinary approach to curriculum design and there may be additional opportunities to participate in curricular innovation and development.

Qualifications: The University College promotes a multi- and interdisciplinary approach to teaching and learning. We welcome candidates from any academic discipline with interest or experience in teaching interdisciplinary general education courses with an emphasis on written and oral communication and critical thinking.  Evidence of excellence in college-level teaching is required. At least three years of college teaching experience in a general education curriculum is preferred. A master’s degree in an academic discipline is required; a terminal degree is preferred. Strong communication skills, demonstrated ability to work in collaboration with others, and an interest in the scholarship of teaching and learning are essential.  We welcome individuals from diverse experiences and backgrounds and/or with experiential learning through lived experiences and/or professional service that inform worldviews and/or perspectives about minority group status, to include race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, religion, and disability. Our faculty seek to broaden participation among members of underrepresented groups. Focused Inquiry faculty are expected to demonstrate through teaching, and/or public engagement the richness of diversity in the learning experience and integrate multicultural approaches and perspectives into instructional methods. Our page posted to the overall academic jobs wiki - how do we get it into the specific Communication and Media Studies page?

I came on here because I recently applied to a couple TT jobs and wanted to check the statuses of the searches. Not only was I unable to find updates, but neither of the jobs are even listed on the site. Granted, these were both advertised within the last couple months (likely emergency hire situations), but still...how frequently is this site updated? I was scanning through a bunch of jobs on the page for my field and very few of the searches have been updated since, like, January/February of this year.

Just wanted to check if I was missing something. Is there a better job search update utility people are using now? Thanks!

There is a job posted to Vitae right now for a position at a Bard High School Early College. This honestly looks like a fun job to me and it pays pretty well. I will have a PhD in a social science field, and I'm considering applying, but my question is: would taking a job like this mean the end of my academic track career? They are specifically hiring PhDs because the students get Associates degrees at the end of their high school years, but it is technically a public high school. I might still consider it, but I want to know how it might impact my future prospects before I decide. Thoughts? Thanks in advance!

Hi everyone, in my regular cooperations with Chinese universities, I have encountered the problem how to translate the job names in german academia into english.

In germany there are (almost) only two positions: professor (with a chair, tenured) and "wissenschaftlicher mitarbeiter". The latter is usually required to teach and to do research (of course, the better/luckier you are, the less you teach). [And yes, there are exceptions like project based positions, there are LBA and so on, but they do not matter here].

I wanted to do some teaching exchange/cooperation with Chinese universities, but Chinese universities would like to have "lecturers" send (and not "post-docs"). My impression was, that the Chinese guys don't want to get second rate teachers, and I don't want to give the impression I want to trick them. I am not sure if I should tell them our "wissenschaftliche mitarbeiter" are equivalent to lecturers?

Does anyone have any experiences what counts as equivalence between germany and UK? (There must be some guys who hopped between the systems).
