Hey folks! I am new on the job market and was wondering if there are any reliable and transparent social groups around where Eng. lit. PhD students prepare together for the job market? I am a bit reluctant to join FB groups as I am unsure about how transparent and reliable members would be or how willing they would be to help each other with preparing/reviewing application materials as well as prepping for interview, job talk, and campus visits. Appreciate the help and any reco.!

Hey all. This is my first year on the job market and I am interested in this position. However, I have heard from advanced PhD candidates that for TT AP positions, you stand a better chance of getting accepted if you have already been working as an instructor/adjunct faculty in the dept. I'd appreciate people's thoughts on this aspect of the search and hire process. If this is true, how do you position your application to stand out against theirs?

I heard anesthesiologist is the highest paying job per month, I want to become an anesthesiologist, but it says "anesthesiologist go to school for 12-15 years" does all types of anesthesiologist have to go to school to become one?
Hello so here is the situation: I am graduating with my Ph.D. in May. I teach 4 classes at a nearby community college as an adjunct. The community college is nice to work at and I enjoy having such a large teaching load. However, they have not shown a commitment to making me full time. I received an offer for a Visiting Assistant Professor spot that would require me to move, but is full time benefits, and more prestige. However, as a visiting position there is no guarantee beyond the initial appointment. What should I do: 1) Stay with my adjunct position and reject VAP, 2) Take VAP offer to my current community college and ask them to match it or at least make me full time, 3) accept the VAP offer. All of this with a lease looming over my head up for renewal.
Anyone know why there isn't yet a Dissertation Fellowships page for this year? I know there were lots of us applying! Here is last year...
Just wondering anyone heard from this position yet?
University of Toronto Missisauga (Canada: Mississauga, ON): Two Assistant Professors (Tenure Track), Writing Studies in Higher Education, The Institute for the Study of University Pedagogy
Where can I find the Wiki for Film/Media Production teaching jobs (as opposed to film studies jobs)?
Hello,
I was wondering what the numbers mean after the 'x' next to short- or long-listing, so for example:
[28 Oct] references requested via RAPS. x7
Does this mean 7 people have logged that they have received the request? Or they are only requesting reference for 7 candidates?
Thank you!

How do I stop (and revert on older posts) my name from showing up?
How do I look for updates to a specific job? It's not listed on the Education2017_2018 page, and I can't figure out where else to look.
Our page posted to the overall academic jobs wiki - how do we get it into the specific Communication and Media Studies page?
I came on here because I recently applied to a couple TT jobs and wanted to check the statuses of the searches. Not only was I unable to find updates, but neither of the jobs are even listed on the site. Granted, these were both advertised within the last couple months (likely emergency hire situations), but still...how frequently is this site updated? I was scanning through a bunch of jobs on the page for my field and very few of the searches have been updated since, like, January/February of this year.
Just wanted to check if I was missing something. Is there a better job search update utility people are using now? Thanks!
There is a job posted to Vitae right now for a position at a Bard High School Early College. This honestly looks like a fun job to me and it pays pretty well. I will have a PhD in a social science field, and I'm considering applying, but my question is: would taking a job like this mean the end of my academic track career? They are specifically hiring PhDs because the students get Associates degrees at the end of their high school years, but it is technically a public high school. I might still consider it, but I want to know how it might impact my future prospects before I decide. Thoughts? Thanks in advance!
Hi everyone, in my regular cooperations with Chinese universities, I have encountered the problem how to translate the job names in german academia into english.
In germany there are (almost) only two positions: professor (with a chair, tenured) and "wissenschaftlicher mitarbeiter". The latter is usually required to teach and to do research (of course, the better/luckier you are, the less you teach). [And yes, there are exceptions like project based positions, there are LBA and so on, but they do not matter here].
I wanted to do some teaching exchange/cooperation with Chinese universities, but Chinese universities would like to have "lecturers" send (and not "post-docs"). My impression was, that the Chinese guys don't want to get second rate teachers, and I don't want to give the impression I want to trick them. I am not sure if I should tell them our "wissenschaftliche mitarbeiter" are equivalent to lecturers?
Does anyone have any experiences what counts as equivalence between germany and UK? (There must be some guys who hopped between the systems).
Hi, Some phishing company/person deleted all the information on Universities to Fear page for some dumb ad about marriage counseling. Can this be reversed?
