Capital University English Department seeks a full-time, tenure track Assistant Professor with expertise in Modern/Contemporary American, Theory, Multi-Ethnic Literature and Global Literature. Emphases may vary. Successful candidates will demonstrate a commitment to teaching and mentoring undergraduate students as well as scholarship. A typical teaching load is three 4-credit hour courses per semester, comprised of both literature and Signature Learning. Ph.D. in English required by the time of appointment, August 2019.

The English Department at Seton Hall University invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor of Post-World War II American Literature, with a specialization in Latinx or Afro-Latinx Literature, to begin August 15, 2019. 

The standard teaching load for visiting faculty who are research and service active is 12 credits per semester. Course assignments will be balanced between first-year writing, university core, American Literature I and II, literature electives, and graduate classes. We seek candidates with a commitment to excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service.

Candidates must have the Ph.D. in hand by the time of appointment.

American literature with an interest in writers of color. The Department of English at Christopher Newport University invites applications for a tenure-track position in 20th and 21st century American Literature, effective August, 2019. Applicants must be committed to undergraduate education and demonstrate the potential for excellence in teaching and research with undergraduates. The successful candidate will be expected to teach survey courses in modern and contemporary American literature and specialized courses approached through regional and/or transnational contexts. All faculty teach first/second year composition seminars and other lower division courses in support of the Liberal Learning Core Curriculum. The Department of English invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, specializing in American, British, or Global/Transnational modernisms. The position begins in the fall 2019 semester. The area of specialization is open, but may include such topics as the relationship between aesthetics, political cultures, and social justice; race, gender, class, and sexuality studies; literature and science; the rise of metropolitan subcultures; and the emergence of networked technologies and screen cultures. An additional consideration is the ability to contribute to one or more of the College’s interdisciplinary programs and institutes, including the Center for Gender, Race, and Area Studies; the Strassler Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies; the Higgins School of the Humanities; the program in New Earth Conversations (an interdisciplinary initiative on climate change); or Women’s and Gender Studies. The teaching load includes courses in Modernism, conceived broadly and globally; survey courses pertinent to the faculty member’s field; and introductory courses required for the major, which all members of the department teach. The Ph.D. is required by August 2019.

The successful candidate will join an English Department with an established commitment to the study of English as a global language and to interdisciplinary study. With this position, we hope to continue our commitment to producing leading-edge research and coursework in the field. With existing ties to many of the interdisciplinary programs and centers listed above, the English Department at Clark University seeks to be a transformative and active influence on campus. Longwood University (VA) - TT Asst. Professor - American Literature (post-1865)[]

Longwood University, a historic public liberal arts institution and host of the 2016 U.S. Vice Presidential Debate, invites candidates to apply for a full-time, tenure-track position in American Literature to begin August 2019.

A comprehensive university with a strong liberal arts foundation, Longwood has a distinctive mission to develop citizen leaders who are prepared to make positive contributions to the common good of society. Founded in 1839, Longwood is the third-oldest public university in Virginia and is part of the proud tradition of higher education in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Roughly one hour's drive from Lynchburg, Charlottesville and Richmond, Longwood is located in the historic two-college community of Farmville, at a historic crossroads near where the Civil War drew to a close and powerful strides in the civil rights movement began. Today, Longwood has more than 5,000 undergraduate and graduate students and more than 34,000 alumni. It maintains affiliations with the neighboring Robert Russa Moton Museum of civil rights history and the Longwood Center for Visual Arts, one of just a few dozen nationally accredited university art museums. A member of the Big South Conference, Longwood competes at the NCAA Division I level. Longwood's 26th President, W. Taylor Reveley IV, took office in June 2013.

Candidates must have a terminal degree and be a strong generalist able to teach introductory and advanced literature courses in post- 1865 American Literature, including our survey for English majors. Subfield within American literature is open, but the successful candidate should teach the wide diversity of American literature. The department welcomes secondary interests in transnational or hemispheric approaches to American literature, digital humanities, and/or interdisciplinary teaching. The successful candidate will also be able to teach classes in the Civitae Core Curriculum, including freshman writing courses devoted to research and rhetoric and literature courses designed for non-majors. The department expects candidates to have an active scholarly agenda in American Literature. Opportunities for service include the Dos Passos Prize for Literature, awarded yearly by the department to a contemporary American writer, and partnerships with the Women's and Gender Studies program and the Moton Museum. The normal teaching load is four courses per semester.

Salary will be commensurate with credentials and experience. Commonwealth of Virginia benefits accompany this position. A successful criminal background investigation is required. Job Summary: The English program in the School of Humanities invites qualified applicants for a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor position in 20th century American fiction and ethnic American literature, to begin Fall 2019. Dynamic scholars with expertise in LGBTQ studies, multiethnic literatures, Indigenous and/or Latinx literature, and a commitment to diversity are especially desirable. The most diverse public university in the state of Mississippi, the University of Southern Mississippi is a student-centered, doctoral-granting research university located in the "hub" city of Hattiesburg, only 90 miles away from historic sites in New Orleans, Jackson, Mobile, Biloxi and the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities: Responsibilities will include a 3/3 load teaching surveys of American, world literature, and American modernism, as well as upper-level undergraduate and graduate courses in field of specialization, and directing theses and dissertations in a doctorate-granting program. Faculty are also expected to maintain an active research agenda. Promise of excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service are expected. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. in English by the time of appointment.

Preferred Qualifications: A strong record of publication and scholarship, demonstrated excellence in teaching, and commitment to diversity and service.
