Smith College (Northampton, MA, USA) The African Studies Program at Smith College invites applications for a two-year, benefits eligible postdoctoral fellowship in African Studies, with a specialty in the study of gender and sexuality in Africa.  The position will begin July 1, 2022. The disciplinary and geographic field is open, but, in both research and teaching, candidates should exhibit a clear commitment to the interdisciplinary study of gender and sexuality in Africa. 12/10: any word from American University?--generic rejection (11/23), had over 300 applications --- (12/12): has anyone who interviewed with American heard about campus visit invites?

1/10 Still no word from Swarthmore. Wondering if at this point it might be appropriate to assume that they have already invited finalists but just not sent out rejections yet. Has anyone heard anything? 1/16: I have not received any word either (2x: assume an internal hire). 1/17 Normally I'd agree with this guess (internal hire), but there are no visiting fac listed in Black Studies, English, or Film/Media Studies that remotely do what the ad describes. (Music dept. put out its own ad.) To be fair, it could be another dept. I wonder if there's an admin problem because it's a program trying to become a department. <-- 1/21: I wonder the same thing. I haven't heard back either. 2/27 Did anyone ever hear from Swarthmore at any stage? I suspect this search was cancelled. 2.5 weeks ago I emailed the two admin listed on the Black Studies page to ask for any updates they could share; the first never responded and the second said they weren't involved with the search but would forward my inquiry to someone else. Never heard back.

12/23: Any word from Emory on the Af-Am Studies position? 1/12: Still no word. 1/20: Got rejected today. They "received and reviewed 103 applications and met this week to narrow the field to 8 semifinalists for further consideration," the email said.
