Ca’ Foscari is looking for a researcher in the area of English and Anglo-American Languages, Literatures and Cultures, with a cutting edge research profile. Södertörn University (SWE) - Senior lecturer in English - American Literature

Södertörns högskola (Södertörn University) in south Stockholm is a dynamic institute of higher education with a unique profile and high academic standard. A large proportion of the university staff holds doctorates and there is a strong link between undergraduate education and research. Södertörn University has around 11 000 students and 840 employees. Undergraduate and postgraduate education and research are conducted in the Humanities, Social Sciences, Life Sciences, Technology and Education. Our site is in Flemingsberg. English at Södertörn University is taught as a freestanding subject but is also included in degree programmes: MEG (Media, English and Globalisation) and Teacher Education with an Intercultural Profile. We conduct teaching and research in the English language, as well as the literature, society and cultural heritage of this linguistic area. Proficiency training in English is included in many of our courses. Language and culture are also studied from postcolonial and multicultural perspectives.

Senior lecturer in English, specialising in American literature

Job description The position includes teaching, supervision, and responsibility for courses and course development at first and second cycle levels (Bachelor’s and Master’s levels). A significant amount of teaching focuses on Teacher Education.

Basic Qualifications An individual is qualified for employment as Senior Lecturer if he/she has proven teaching skills and possesses a doctorate in English, specializing in American literature or has the equivalent scholarly expertise or other professional skills that are of significance to the position’s demands and job description. Teaching is primarily conducted in English, but the applicant is expected to be able to teach in Swedish within the first two years of employment.

Coursework or training in higher education teaching, or the equivalent, is advantageous.

Grounds for assessment The grounds for assessment when employing a senior lecturer is the degree of expertise required to be eligible for the position. Scholarly expertise is demonstrated through research. Pedagogical expertise must be demonstrated through documented experience of conducting and developing courses and a written presentation of the applicant’s pedagogical approach. Applicants must also have the personal skills necessary to meet the demands of the position. Scholarly and educational expertise will be given equal priority.

For this position, in addition to the basic qualifications detailed above, the following grounds for assessment have also been decided (in order of importance):

Experience of teaching and/or research specialising in intercultural perspectives
