PLEASE NOTE: SJSU is a horrible place to work. The Administration is against the Faculty; and the Staff does little for the Faculty and is abetted in this by the Administration. Finally, the Chair of the Humanities Department is an abusive supervisor. Don't leave a good thing for this position!

--Re, comment above^: Disinterested third party here. Not denying the above, but are there details? Administration "is against" is pretty unclear, I've met more than my share of deans, et al. who don't seem to think much of Am studies/english, but maybe more details could help the people they're interviewing out? And 'abusive' is a pretty loaded term, are we talking heavy workload or, you know, abuse?

Any news? Assuming they had about 4 billion applicants so maybe it'll take longer.

--Anyone hear back after video interviews?

Nothing here.

-- 02/08: Any news from interviewees? Guessing they have moved on, but who knows.

--nothing here, I was told they'd reach out about campus visits this week so guessing they've moved on, but again, who knows

NOTES:

  • why is anyone posting this in American Open? This is an African American lit job.
  • While the ad does emphasize Af-Am Lit. (and it is also posted on that page), it does also suggest a broader range of coverage will also be considered and indeed even expected (i.e. "While we seek strong grounding in African-American Literature and Culture, we are a teaching institution and our students could also benefit from supplemental areas of expertise in additional minority literatures, literary theory, and/or film."). The ad makes it sound like an American generalist with a strong background in Af-Am lit. would be considered, therefore it seems appropriate to cross-post to this page.
