  • There were no phone interviews because it is not a real search. Do a Google search using the preferred research areas and you will find the (already hired) candidate. This was decided before the ad was posted. This fraudulent search, and those that filter candidates by college/university affiliation resulting in the exclusion of non-Ivy league (safe) candidates, are intended to consolidate hegemony and reinforce the 1%. Perhaps, the most insidious thing about this brand of corruption is that that these same elitist and privileged people then attempt to take the role of advocate for the 99%. Thus, the political and epistemological status quo is protected. The war on the poor and middle class is not just a political problem; privilege, corruption, elitism, and exclusion pervades our academic institutions.
  • I did a Google search as suggested and did not find the "already hired" candidate. For this post to be useful, it needs to be more specific, e.g. to include the position/affiliation of the candidate in question. If the goal is to challenge these hegemonies, that will not be accomplished through libel--so please be more specific!

  • (12/21) If you don't mind sharing, what additional materials were requested (given that a writing sample was already included as part of the application)? <--letters of rec and syllabus for a proposed grad student course, if not already included.
    • Weren't these part of the initial application?
      • OP here: Thanks for the info. To above question: the syllabus was requested as part of the initial application; letters were not (initial app just requested contact info).
      • NB: In the original application, they did not explicitly state the syllabus be for a graduate student course.
      • I'm pretty sure they did; I found out somehow, after all. Not that I'm complaining! Good luck with the search from here.
      • I wonder if there were slightly different versions of the ad? The one I saw asked for two syllabi: one undergraduate, one graduate. In any case, good luck to those who've advanced to the next stage!
