Rejection (no interview): " I am writing to let you know that your application for our position in modern U.S. cultural history is no longer under active consideration. Our search committee has decided upon a list of finalists. In reviewing nearly 450 applications, the search committee was faced with a daunting task; we were awestruck by the sheer volume of talent, the range and depth of excellent projects that we encountered. (One of the pleasures in searching for an entry-level position is that it brings us in contact with the most exciting scholars coming out of graduate programs today.) In the end, our decision, in selecting from an array of riches, had much to do with questions of field and complementarity within our Department and across the University.

We thank you for your interest in our position, and for sharing your research with us. Let me extend my very best wishes for a bright future in the profession.

  • Applied for this position 10/29; received a confirmation. On 11/6 I got an automated email from Careers @Wesleyan saying my application had been "reactivated." It appears that while 2 of my 3 contacts were asked for recommendations before the deadline, the third was only asked for his on 11/6 (I'm wondering if the storm had anything to do with this--maybe the online system was down and only just came back up). Has this happened to anyone else?
  • Any contact on this, esp since review began in early Aug?
  • Search committee is reviewing applications and making the interview list (11/28)
    • Thank you for the update! (x3!)
  • Has anybody who held a Skype interview heard anything? (1/15)
    • Nope
    • Nothing here.
    • I am taking the 1/11 note above in which she states that they have their lists of finalists as evidence that they've already arranged campus visits. I find it extremely frustrating that they can't/won't update those who have interviewed, but I'm starting to think that the surest way to be kept out of the loop of any job search is to get an interview.
