  • Anyone know what happened with this search last year? (9/5)
  • I completed a phone interview (in the spring round of interviews) and then received a letter stating that they would not be filling the job at this time. Not sure if they didn't find anyone they liked or if they lost funding. (09/11) I was told that it was funding issues (9/14). I heard it was "fit" issues. (9/18) Ugh. Job searches are the worst (9/19) Yes!!! (9/19) More the fit of the candidates with the position. The job announcement was revised for 2014-15 search.
  • How important do you think the PhD in American Studies is (i.e. do Gender Studies PhDs carry the same weight?) (9/19) Very important. Degree in American Studies is "preferred" and the position demands expertise in American Studies theory and method and subject areas.
  • Any word? (11/7) I haven't heard anything. At this point in the last search they had already arranged phone interviews. (11/7) Phone interviews scheduled for early December. [posted 11/12]

  • Email sent out stating that process is continuing after the break. [posted 1/4]
  • Any movement? Is it delayed still? (1/17) Conducting more phone interviews through the end of January. [posted 1/20] what is the deal with them? They did the same thing last year and then didn't hire anyone. Why do they have such a hard time finding someone? They are hardly alone among public doctoral-level institutions in having protracted, and sometimes uncompleted searches. This in fact is more the norm now with high standards for experience and pressures of achieving diversity.
