Bilkent University (TURKEY) - Assistant Professor - American Culture and Literature[]

The Department of American Culture and Literature at Bilkent University invites applications for a faculty position on the Assistant Professor level beginning in fall semester 2019 (September 2019). Applications are invited from candidates with primary fields in American Studies, American literature, American history, film studies, art history, theatre and drama, cultural studies, gender studies, genres of American music, the anthropology of American cultures, the sociology of popular culture in the U.S., and critical theory. The regular course load is 3/3, but new faculty may be granted a course load reduction during their first two years of teaching. Applicants should be able to teach one or more of our first and second year courses—Introduction to American Studies, Methods and Texts, American Texts and Contexts, and the Survey of U.S. History—as well as courses pertinent to the applicant’s specialty within the range of third and fourth year courses that we offer. We would prefer applicants who can work within interdisciplinary contexts; we are open to considering candidates with various fields and periods of specialization. Experience in teaching content-based English writing skills would be highly desirable.

Collaborate with program faculty to continue the growth of CSULB’s American Studies Program and its curriculum. Participate in regional and national American Studies organizations.   • UPDATE (12/30/2018): I have some info. I'm not an applicant, but I do know a couple of things. First, the last search/ announcement was not a failed search. This is a new tenure line. From what I know, they haven't looked at/ received the applications yet. This is the (reliable) rumor mill talking, but it seems (and this sounds dumb) that the university has a pre-vetting process (?) and releases applications to the department? Not sure how that works exactly, but I do know they they have yet to interview/ schedule phone/ campus visits. Hang tight, people. Shitty advice, I know. I'm an applicant in another discipline, so just trying to ease some anxieties. If I can answer any questions I can, I will. Sorry if this sounds cryptic, but trying to help.

The College of Social & Behavioral Sciences (SBS) invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor in Ethnic Studies. We seek a colleague whose work is comparative, relational, and interdisciplinary. Preferred areas of teaching and research include expertise in one or more of the following areas: African American Studies, Asian American and Pacific Islander Studies, Chicanx/Latinx Studies, and/or Native American Studies.The tenure home will be within an existing SBS department or the School of Social Work, therefore candidates must have formal graduate training and evidence of research and teaching that aligns with one of SBS' nine academic disciplines. Carleton College (MN) - TT Asst. Professor - Native American History and American Studies[]

The History Department and American Studies Program at Carleton College seek a scholar of Native American history and culture with research and teaching expertise in the nineteenth or twentieth century. The successful candidate’s classes would be divided between History and American Studies (with a five-course load on a trimester schedule). In addition to courses in Native American History or Native American Studies, the successful candidate would be expected to regularly teach core courses in American Studies, and occasionally to offer a survey of US history post-1865. Interest in collaborations with indigenous communities or nations in the region will be particularly welcome. Administrative responsibilities will be primarily in the American Studies program.

Colby College (ME) - TT Assistant Professor of American Studies in Cultural Geography - CAMPUS INTERVIEW STAGE[]

Tenure-track Assistant Professor of American Studies, beginning September 1, 2019.

The American Studies Program at Colby College invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Cultural Geography. Ours is among the oldest American Studies undergraduate majors in the U.S. We are a small, vibrant program with close relations with the programs of Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, African American Studies, and Cinema Studies, and the departments of Anthropology and Art. The search committee is especially interested in candidates who will participate in the dialogue between American Studies and these other programs and departments, and who, through their research, teaching, and/or service will contribute to diversity and excellence of the campus community.

We seek candidates with Ph.D.s in American Studies or closely related fields whose scholarship and teaching focus on U.S. cultural geography. Georgetown University (DC) - TT Asst. Professor in the Culture & Politics Program - Human Rights and/or Humanitarianism[]

The Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University invites applications for a new tenure-track position at the rank of assistant professor with a focus on culture and politics. The position will start in Fall 2019. We seek candidates with research expertise in human rights and/or humanitarianism who have a demonstrated interdisciplinary background in cultural/social theory as it relates to global politics. The appointment is attached to the Culture and Politics (CULP) undergraduate major within the School of Foreign Service (SFS). Heinrich Heine University (GERMANY) - Tenured Full (W3) Professorship of American Studies (begin Jan. 2019)[]

We are looking to appoint a first-rate scholar starting 01.10.2019 whose research and teaching encompass the entire field of American studies. She/He should have a specialization in transcultural American studies as well as in comparative literary and cultural studies with a strong focus on strategies of textual analysis. She/He will be expected to participate in the BA program in American and English studies, the MA program in comparative studies in English and American language, literature and culture, the MA program in literary translation as well as in media and cultural studies courses in the Faculty of the Humanities.

The successful candidate’s international scholarly reputation should be documented by a distinguished record of publication in internationally respected journals as well as by success in the competitive acquisition of third-party funding.
