Duties and Responsibilities:
- Teach undergraduate and graduate interdisciplinary courses in American visual culture and/or art history in the Department of American Studies,
- Teach "Survey of Global Arts" in the Department of Art and Art History on a rotating basis
- Engage in research, teaching, and service in the department, university, profession, and the community,
- Perform other duties as assigned by the chair.
Minimum Qualifications:
- PhD in American Studies, Art History, Visual Studies, or a closely related field. PhD must be in hand by date of hire (August 1, 2020).
- Ability to teach and conduct research in American visual culture and/or art history with an emphasis on American colonial, postcolonial, Indigenous, and/or transcultural contexts,
- Demonstrated successful teaching experience at the college level,
- Evidence of scholarly achievement.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Ability to teach American Studies core classes at both the undergraduate and graduate levels,
- Knowledge of Asia and the Pacific region,
- Engagement in digital humanities, public humanities, and/or community focused activities,
- At least 2 years of successful teaching at the college level,
- Publications in refereed journals or other appropriate media.

The University of Michigan’s Department of American Culture seeks qualified applicants for an open-rank tenure-track faculty appointment.
We seek a theoretically sophisticated and interdisciplinary scholar whose work is situated in American studies and/or critical ethnic studies, with interests in empire and militarization, settler colonialism, diasporic and transnational literatures, environmental humanities, and/or migration studies. The search will consider scholars whose work focuses on the U.S. as well as those who incorporate comparative and transnational frameworks in relation to the U.S. The ideal candidate will possess cross-cutting interests and could teach topical courses aligned with Native American and Indigenous studies, and/or Arab American studies.
This is a university-year appointment with an expected start date of September 1, 2020. A Ph.D. degree in any relevant field in the humanities or social sciences is required prior to appointment. Applicants must demonstrate evidence of excellence in teaching and research.

AMERICAN STUDIES. The Department of American Studies at Skidmore College, a highly selective liberal arts college in Saratoga Springs, New York, invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position, beginning September 2020.
Strong commitment to interdisciplinary undergraduate education and teaching experience. A demonstrated interest in contributing to broader cross-disciplinary and emerging areas in our liberal arts curriculum, particularly the Black Studies Program. Applicants should be able to demonstrate their ability to teach diverse student populations.
Teaching load of five courses a year (18 credit hours). Candidates should be able to teach courses that cover a broad historical range and have the following specializations: race/ethnic studies and material culture.

Assistant Professor of American Studies at Wesleyan University (applied X1)[]
The American Studies Department at Wesleyan seeks a scholar-teacher in nineteenth-century U.S. cultural studies/history for a tenure-track appointment at the Assistant Professor level, beginning July 1, 2020. Gender, social reform, and empire are the areas within the field that are the Department’s highest preferences; additional areas of focus may include religion, immigration, and urbanism. We seek an interdisciplinary historian with a Ph.D. in American studies, history, or a related field entailing an immersion in historical research and analysis. Due to the current composition of the Department, candidates with Ph.D.s in literary studies will not be considered. Candidates should be actively engaged in scholarly research and writing and prepared to teach four courses per year (two per semester) to undergraduates. Additional duties include advising and mentoring students and participating in faculty governance at the departmental and university level. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in hand (within the field specifications stated above) by the time of appointment to be hired as an Assistant Professor; a successful candidate may be hired as an Instructor if the candidate does not have a Ph.D. in hand at the time of appointment, but must complete the Ph.D. (within the field specifications stated above) within one year of hire. Assistant or Associate Professor of American Studies at the University of Virginia[]
The Program in American Studies at the University of Virginia invites applications for a position in Latinx Studies, at the assistant professor (tenure-track) or associate (tenured) levels. Anticipated start date is August 25, 2020. Applicants must have a record of interdisciplinary research and/or teaching in Latinx Studies. The American Studies program at the University of Virginia is comprised of faculty whose work engages methodologies that range across the humanities and social sciences. Faculty engage with other projects taking shape at the university, including, but not limited to, studies of comparative race and ethnicity, the Americas, and the Global South. A new colleague may be interested in an approach that extends beyond the limits of one or another discipline within the interdisciplinary scope of Latinx Studies. The Program in American Studies is especially, though not exclusively, interested in candidates’ whose research focuses on histories of one or multiple diasporic groups, on past or contemporary social movements, on ideas of peoplehood or Latinx political influence in the United States, on religious and other cultural practices.

Georgetown University in Qatar invites applications for a core faculty position in American Studies at the rank of Assistant Professor. Kennesaw State University (Kennesaw, GA) - Assistant Professor of Integrative Studies[]
The Department of Leadership and Integrative Studies in University College at Kennesaw State University is seeking applicants for a nine-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Integrative Studies. The position will begin on August 1, 2020. The ideal candidate is a collegial scholar-practitioner with interdisciplinary expertise.
Teaching responsibilities include instruction in the Integrative Studies (INTS) degree program. Additional responsibilities include the presentation and publication of interdisciplinary, peer-reviewed scholarship as well as campus and external service. Priority will be given to candidates with successful teaching experience in a college/university.
Required Education - Experience - Skills (Minimum Qualifications): Candidates must have an earned doctorate with an interdisciplinary focus, or the foreign equivalent, and evidence of interdisciplinary scholarship. Abbott Lowell Cummings Postdoctoral Fellow in American Material Culture
The American & New England Studies Program at Boston University seeks a recent Ph.D. in American Studies (preferred), or related interdisciplinary preparation, to serve as the inaugural Abbott Lowell Cummings Postdoctoral Fellow in American Material Culture beginning in the fall semester 2020. This fellowship is a two-year appointment for a scholar with doctorate in hand and received no more than five years previously. The position involves half-time teaching and half-time research and writing. Each year the Cummings Fellow will teach one undergraduate introductory course in American material culture and one upper-level seminar on a related topic. The fellowship includes support for travel to conferences and sources.
