The English Department of Baruch College, CUNY, seeks applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Translation and Interpreting Studies, with particular emphasis on connections and intersections with multilingualism.
The candidate should have a strong interest in crossing the borders between languages, cultures, and national literatures, and should demonstrate an understanding of the critical, practical, and theoretical issues concerning translation, and how these intersect with globalization, multiculturalism, and interdisciplinarity. Teaching opportunities also include courses in Great Works of Literature (our multicultural literature requirement) and in First Year Writing. Candidate should be able to contribute to collaborative initiatives and cross-departmental connections involving a possible Translation Studies minor, the Global Studies program, the Department of Modern Languages and Comparative Literature, and the Department of Communication Studies.

The Position: We seek to hire a faculty member working on transnational, Anglophone literature of the long eighteenth century (1660-1800). The successful candidate will teach courses in the English B.A. and M.A. programs, and contribute to the educational mission of the CSU system.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in English (or a closely related field such as Comparative Literature) from an accredited university by no later than August 1, 2018.
- Ability to teach Anglophone literature—including surveys of British literature.
- Ability to teach courses in literary theory, in particular gender studies.
- Evidence of effective college or university teaching experience to a diverse population
- Evidence of current and potential ability to build a strong record of scholarly publication.
- Demonstrated ability to contribute excellence of a diverse academic community through research, teaching and/or service, and of commitment to teaching and working in a multicultural environment.

Primary Duties, Responsibilities, and Tasks: The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. in Asian Diasporic literature (East and South Asian, Asian American and Asian British studies cultures, languages and literatures) or a related field, experience teaching literature at the college level, and evidence of scholarly activity. Desired secondary areas of interest include: critical race theory, contemporary literature taught in translation, global and transnational studies, gender and sexuality studies, postcolonial studies, settler colonial studies, or Asian literatures and literary traditions. A strong commitment to undergraduate education in a residential college environment is essential.
The successful candidate will teach a variety of undergraduate courses on the traditions, histories, and theories of Asian Diasporic literatures. The candidate may also teach literary foundations and courses fulfilling a college-wide literature requirement, which could include a first-year seminar. Graduate literature courses for MFA creative writing and MA publishing students may be part of the teaching duties. Experience teaching online classes or a willingness to teach literature in an online MFA program is desirable. In addition to teaching five courses a year, all faculty members advise and mentor students and participate in the college’s system of shared governance.
Emerson College is the nation’s only four-year institution dedicated exclusively to majors in communication and the arts in a liberal arts context. The English and Communication Studies Department seeks a specialist in world literature with a regional specialization including, but not limited to, African, Caribbean, Latin American, Middle Eastern, Oceanic, or South/South East Asian literary traditions. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute leadership and vision to the department's literature program, to provide intellectual and pedagogical innovation for world literature courses, to serve as a mentor to current and new literature faculty, and to develop interdisciplinary college-wide programming in global and area studies. The successful candidate will be expected to work closely with other Liberal Arts departments and have a commitment to working with culturally, linguistically, and academically diverse students in an institution with strong emphasis on globalism and experiential learning.
At hire, the successful candidate will be expected to teach existing courses in the English and Communication Studies Department, including introductory literature and composition, and to develop new curriculum in the candidate's area of specialization. Globalism: Possess expertise in helping students discover how specific works of literature can challenge or solidify accepted norms and uncover moments of cultural evolution and revolution. Demonstrate ability to help students delve into human experience by examining key works of literature from diverse historical, aesthetic, and cultural perspectives while also encouraging them to challenge essentializing tendencies and debates that might circulate and solidify around the reception of these works. Demonstrate ability to create a dynamic classroom where students can effectively communicate across cultural and linguistic boundaries and balance differing worldviews based upon a deep knowledge and awareness of other people, countries, cultures, and beliefs through the study of literature. Strengthen curricular offerings in literature as well as introduce students to new canons from global literary traditions based upon the candidate's areas of expertise.
Instructional Design: Demonstrate ability to adapt course materials to adjust to new innovations within and outside of the discipline. Demonstrate instructional variety and flexibility to accommodate students of different learning styles, abilities, demographics, or diversity. Demonstrate experience in creating curriculum and classroom environments that will reinforce and further develop advanced skills in critical reading, thinking, presenting, and writing.
Learning Enrichment: Demonstrate innovative and creative pedagogical approaches into the classroom and exhibit a love of learning that is communicated effectively to students. Possess a passion for expanding students' horizons, curiosities and imagination through literary exemplars and wide-ranging curricular innovations that fall outside the Western literary tradition. Applicants with research and teaching expertise in a broad range of non-Western literary traditions with a comparative, transnational, interdisciplinary, and/or Postcolonial studies approach, in addition to literary subfields that might include classics, critical theory, diasporic studies, ecocriticism, gender and sexuality studies, and theatre and performance studies. Experience with interdisciplinary and innovative approaches to teaching literature and the digital humanities is especially welcome.

The Department of English at Florida International University invites applications for a tenure-track, assistant professor in Postcolonial Literatures of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, beginning Fall 2018. Applicants should have a PhD in English, Comparative Literature, or a related field in hand by August 2018. The successful candidate will have a 2/2 teaching load over nine months, will teach lower- and upper-division undergraduate literature courses, teach and advise Master's students and teach online. We invite applications from specialists working on transnational Asian literatures and cultures. The Massey English BA English major consists of three literary strands - nation and period, genre and theme, and New Zealand and Pacific - and a fourth strand of creative and applied writing courses cross-listed from related programmes. Candidates are also encouraged to look at the School's full range of programmes and consider possible areas of synergy and cross-disciplinary co-operation in their teaching.
The position is based at Massey University's Manawatu campus in Palmerston North. The level of appointment will depend on qualifications and experience. It is anticipated that the selected candidate will take up the appointment in January 2018. The appointee will have a completed PhD at the time of application. Academic publications and other evidence of ongoing research, as well as experience of teaching English at University level are expected. An ability to teach English at postgraduate level and to supervise research up to and including PhD level is required. The School: The successful candidate will be based in the School of Language, Arts and Media (SLAM) which houses the disciplines of Literature, Academic English, Linguistics, Applied Linguistics, Journalism, Fijian, Hindi, French and Chinese. It is one of the most research-focused schools in the university and provides generous funding for active researchers.
The Opportunity: SLAM is seeking to appoint a motivated, experienced and talented individual who can make a significant contribution to research and teaching within the field of Literature, with preferred expertise in global or postcolonial literatures in English and literary/critical theory.
The successful applicant will be an active member of the school's vibrant research culture and will contribute to teaching, course development and supervision at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The applicant will also be able to undertake management and administrative duties commensurate with the role. The post will be based at Laucala Campus, Fiji, although there may also be opportunities to deliver short-term flexi-schools at other campuses in the region.
The Person We Seek: To be considered for this position, applicants must have: A PhD in a relevant field; Excellent qualifications in Literature, ideally with a background in global or postcolonial literatures in English and literary/critical theory; A solid research plan within their own field of expertise; Strong record of research publications in peer-reviewed journals and participation in conferences; Focused personal research plan, which determines clear and achievable publication and conference goals; Proven record of effective teaching and research supervision For appointment at the Senior Lecturer level you must have a strong record of published research in top-tier journals and books with either a formal tertiary teaching qualification or significant tertiary teaching experience.
Preference will be given to applicants with: Experience and knowledge relating to one or more of following areas of speciality: postcolonial or global literatures in English, literary/critical theory; Experience teaching students for whom English is a second language; Experience of course development; Experience of online platforms such as Moodle, or distance modes of delivery.
Remuneration: The position is available for a term of 3 years and may be renewed by mutual agreement.
Salary Range: Lecturer FJ $66,990 to FJ $88,144 per annum; Senior Lecturer FJ $90,882 to FJ $104,865 per annum.
In addition to the above benefits, the University contributes 10% of basic salary to an approved superannuation scheme, provides airfare and relocation costs where appropriate.
