The department has an appointed chair with the general responsibility for guiding the department toward selected goals. It is the specific responsibility of the chair to:

The Department of Anthropology at Bowdoin College invites applications for a tenure-track position in anthropological archaeology at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin July 1, 2021. We seek candidates whose research and teaching focus on historic or prehistoric archaeology.

North Carolina State University - Assistant Professor of Anthropology (Medical) (Tenure-Track) Review begins October 10, no deadline set.
North Carolina State University, Raleigh, NC. The Department of Sociology and Anthropology is accepting applications for an assistant professor (tenure-track) appointment as a cultural anthropologist with a focus on medical anthropology to begin Fall 2021. Qualifications: Ph.D. in Anthropology by start date (anticipated 8/16/2021); strong record or promise of research and publication, including potential for obtaining extramural funding; strong commitment to student mentorship. Teaching load is two courses per semester for research active faculty. Candidates should be prepared to teach undergraduate and graduate courses. While specific research topic is open, geographic area of specialization must lie outside Latin America and candidates should have a strong background in ethnographic research. The Vermont Folklife Center (VFC), founded in 1984, is a nationally recognized cultural research and education organization that uses ethnography to gain a deeper understanding of Vermont’s diverse communities and to strengthen connections between them. VFC serves Vermonters across the state through four major programs: Archive, Education, Traditional Arts Apprenticeship, Vision and Voice Exhibition. All four programs are grounded in collaborative ethnographic research and documentation with cultural communities in Vermont. VFC builds programs around community grassroots concerns and our partners’ expertise. This method highlights the dignity, insight and potential of all Vermonters in the hopes of contributing to a more equitable, tolerant and inclusive society.
The Director of Education is an integral member of the VFC staff whose primary responsibility is to administer VFC’s robust, statewide education programming. The aim of VFC’s education program is to create pathways for Vermonters to see, participate in, and comprehend the transformative power of ethnography as a method for education and social change. The Director of Education will organize and direct programs that teach ethnographic methods and concepts, and provide training and support to Vermonters seeking to undertake their own community-defined, cultural initiatives.

The Oklahoma State University Department of History invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the field of Public History beginning in August 2021. Candidates with experience in the broadly defined area of Cultural Resource Management, including historic preservation, tribal or indigenous cultural heritage management, historical archaeology, or other similarly engaged public history activities are especially encouraged to apply. Teaching responsibilities include undergraduate and graduate courses in public history, as well as lower division American history surveys, upper-division courses, and graduate seminars in the area of specialization. The teaching load is 2-2.

The Department of Liberal Arts at the Juilliard School seeks applicants for a full-time, non-tenure-track, assistant professor. Successful applicants will teach in the department’s writing, core, and elective curricula. Candidates must have experience in teaching First Year Composition and must be dedicated to the department’s core curriculum, which emphasizes critical reading and writing, cross-cultural thinking, and the humanities and social sciences. A disciplinary specialization in the social sciences, especially political anthropology, cultural anthropology, sociology, geography, or social psychology, is preferred. Opportunities to teach electives in the field of specialization will be provided. The ideal candidate will demonstrate skills in interdisciplinary and collaborative pedagogy. The Department of Anthropology at the University of Nevada, Reno invites applications for a tenure-track position in linguistic anthropology at the rank of Assistant Professor. We seek a scholar with a strong theoretical and methodological background in linguistic anthropology and an ethnographic approach to the study of language and culture. Preferred areas of focus include: minority/minoritized languages; bilingual and multilingual communities; language, race, and ethnicity; Indigenous languages; language shift, loss, and revitalization; and related fields. All theoretical approaches in linguistic anthropology are welcome, and geographic specialization is open; we encourage applicants who demonstrate willingness for substantive engagement with local communities. The School of Social Science and Global Studies at the University of Southern Mississippi (USM) invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track assistant professor in anthropology to begin in August of 2021. The position is open to all specialties in biocultural anthropology, but priority will be given to those who complement/augment existing faculty specialties.
Those with a research focus in medical anthropology, growth and development, and/or nutritional anthropology are especially encouraged to apply. The ability to work collaboratively with other disciplines, including the dual master's degree program with Public Health, is also desirable.
The successful candidate will assume a 3/3 teaching load that may include the following classes: four-field introduction to anthropology, introduction to archaeology and biological anthropology, medical anthropology, as well as electives in the applicant's particular area of expertise.

This is a two-semester, part-time faculty appointment comprised of a partial teaching load in the incumbent’s area of specialization and reassigned time to develop and implement co-curricular experiences, in consultation with the Macricostas Executive Stewardship Committee, that meet the following objectives: (1) Educate students, the university community, and the general public about the contributions that Ancient Greece has made to contemporary civilization; (2) Invite scholarly study of the Classics and Modern Greece; and (3) Demonstrably promote the discipline of Greek and Hellenic Studies at WCSU.
The Macricostas School of Arts and Sciences is home to 13 departments offering 21 undergraduate majors and 8 graduate majors, and offers a variety of ways for students to further their education. Housed in the Department of Philosophy and Humanistic Studies, the Macricostas Endowed Teaching Fellowship is open to any discipline that involves Hellenic and Modern Greek Studies. Cultural Anthropology and Development Sociology (CADS) at Leiden University studies the everyday practices of individuals, groups, and communities worldwide, to situate them within complex global challenges. Our CADS research program Global Vulnerabilities and Social Resilience focusses on three areas of research: Sustainability, Diversity, and Digitalization. At CADS we propagate a signature methodology consisting of a unique mix of qualitative, quantitative, digital and visual methods grounded in ethnographic fieldwork. We do this research along both disciplinary and interdisciplinary lines, together with our academic and preferred societal partners. The CADS teaching program is home to a vibrant student community consisting of as many as 25 nationalities. Diversity is key to who we are and what we do; in creating an inclusive learning environment where a diversity of experiences and perspectives is fully supported, in our own research and in appointing research and teaching staff.
We intend to strengthen our research and education in the field of digital, audiovisual, and multimodal anthropology and for that reason we aim to complement our team with an assistant professor in this field. The International Affairs Program at Lafayette College invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position beginning Fall 2021. We are a nationally-ranked interdisciplinary program in global studies and we seek applicants with expertise in global and transnational patterns of power, culture, and identity. Priority will be given to applicants with a demonstrated research agenda that reflects the transnational flows of people (e.g. diaspora, migration, refugees, labor) or ideas (e.g. colonialism, post-colonialism, indigeneity, race) and how these patterns intersect with systemic structures of inequality and exclusion.
