Job Summary
The Anthropology Program in the Behavioral Sciences Department of the College of Arts, Sciences, and Letters (CASL) invites applicants for a Lecturer I position to teach one section of ANTH 325 (Anthropology of Health and the Environment) in the Winter 2025 session (Jan 6 to April 25, 2025). This class is HYBRID, approximately 25% asynchronous online and 75% in person, meeting Tuesdays and Thursdays 11am-12:15pm. The instructor may adjust this percentage within the University's definition of hybrid courses (between 25% and 75% online). It is a 4 credit, upper-level class, with a maximum enrollment of approximately 30 students. This course uses an anthropological lens to examine topics such as population growth, globalization, how economic interests are creating increases in pollution, deforestation, water scarcity, urban sprawl, oil spills, and numerous other kinds of destructive environmental changes, but the instructor has flexibility to choose the specific areas of focus, readings, etc.
Additional classes may be offered, depending on enrollments, and so the ideal candidate would also be able to teach one or more of the following courses: Introduction to Anthropology (four field), and upper-level courses titled The African Experience in the Americas, Beyond Race: Understanding Human Variation, Human Genetics, Language and Society, and/or Doing Anthropology (an upper-level ethnographic methods course). Applicants should specify their experience teaching and/or researching in any of the applicable areas. Community engaged research and teaching and Academic Service Learning courses are also a plus.
All offered courses are subject to enrollment. A PhD degree in Anthropology is required in-hand by the start of classes. Prior experience teaching related courses strongly preferred. Candidates must be able to use the Canvas LMS.
