- Tenure-track Assistant Professor of History in the area of modern Chinese history
- Area of expertise is open. We particularly encourage scholars with interests in the following areas: history of science, technology and medicine; energy and environmental history; imperial borderlands, transregional, or multiethnic histories; political economy including capitalism; gender and diaspora. We are, however, open to applications beyond this scope. We expect the scholar in question to have completed significant work in a Chinese language and archives.
- We seek a scholar who is enthusiastic about mentoring graduate students and who will offer courses aligned with one or more of the Department’s graduate thematic clusters: Global connections, empire, capitalism; Health, science, environment; Race, citizenship, migration; Religion, gender, cultural identity; States, nations, political cultures.
- The incumbent should be prepared to teach undergraduate lecture and seminar courses as well as graduate seminars from late imperial to contemporary Chinese history, and other topics of interest. This faculty member will have opportunities for affiliation and collaboration with interdisciplinary Stony Brook programs, institutes, and centers aligned with their interests.
