Azusa Pacific University (CA) - Assistant/Associate Professor of Biblical Studies/Theology

Description: This position is in Azusa Pacific Seminary (APS) and begins in 2019/2020. This position requires the ability to teach seminary courses in biblical studies and/or theology for both Spanish and English-speaking students.  Teaching may include MA/MDIV/DMIN courses. This position may include administrative units (e.g., student services, advisement, recruitment, etc.) APU is an institution of higher education with a tradition in Wesleyan evangelical Christianity. Specialization: Biblical scholar, theologian or church historian with an ability to engage students in advanced study in the various sub-disciplines of biblical and theological studies.

Job Description

BOSTON UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF THEOLOGY invites applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty position in New Testament at the rank of Assistant Professor, to begin in Fall 2019. Areas of expertise are open, but candidates should be competent to teach core masters courses in New Testament as well as masters and doctoral courses in New Testament and Ancient Christianity. Brandeis University (MA) - Ancient Mesopotamian Civilization (incl. Hebrew Bible/Ancient Israel)

The Department of Near Eastern and Judaic Studies at Brandeis University invites applications for a tenure-track position in ancient Mesopotamian Civilization at the assistant professor level, to begin Fall 2019. The position is for a scholar with a specialization in ancient Mesopotamian languages and literatures (Assyriology). Competence in the broader critical and academic study of the languages, literatures, and cultures of the ancient Near East, including the Hebrew Bible/Ancient Israel, is desirable. Duties include the teaching of undergraduate and graduate courses, including advanced Akkadian language and literature courses and broad general courses on aspects of Mesopotamian and Near Eastern culture and history. REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience: Faculty members are expected to demonstrate excellent teaching ability and a track record of (or strong potential for) scholarly work. Primary expertise in Biblical Studies or Christian Theology is required. Successful candidates will have a PhD.

Description: The Clemson University Department of Philosophy and Religion invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Religion in the area of Hebrew Bible to begin August 15, 2019. Columbia Theological Seminary (GA) - T/T New Testament

Basic Responsibilities

  • Teach in all programs of the seminary, including residential and online basic and advanced degree courses and life-long learning programs, with a primary focus in New Testament and Greek language instruction.
  • Engage in research and writing in New Testament and biblical studies which may include subspecialties and/or interdisciplinary work in such fields as mujerista/womanist/ feminist interpretation, disability studies, queer theory, minoritized hermeneutics, or postcolonial studies. Emory University (GA) - New Testament

Candler School of Theology invites applications and nominations for a faculty position at the level of Assistant Professor (tenure-track) in New Testament beginning fall 2019. Preference will be given to complete applications submitted by October 25, 2018.

The successful candidate will have a well-defined research focus within the field of New Testament studies and will hold a Ph.D. in New Testament (or related discipline) by the time of appointment. Spring Hill College invites applications for a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor of Biblical Studies, with a concentration in either Old or New Testament. AAR/SBL interviews seem pretty rare, and communication about interviews or finalists is fairly irregular. They seem to march to the beat of their own drummer, which, I guess, is a luxury you can afford when you're the University of Chicago.

The Liberal Studies Department (future Department of Global Humanities and Religions) at Western Washington University seeks to make a tenure-track hire in this field, starting September 2019.  Responsibility for teaching six courses per year over three quarters (two courses per quarter),  including courses such as a 200-level introduction to the Study of Religion; 300-level courses on Hebrew Bible and the Religion of Ancient Israel; New Testament and Early Christianity; and new courses on topics in Religious Studies and in the cultural history of the ancient world.  High quality research and service are also expected.  Required: PhD in Religious Studies or related field by September 15, 2019, with primary expertise in biblical studies and the ancient eastern Mediterranean or Near Eastern world.  Demonstrated capacity for interdisciplinary teaching and scholarship and demonstrated abilities to conduct scholarly research with sources in their original languages.  Preferred:  Demonstrated potential for effective teaching and high-quality scholarship; demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse students and colleagues.  Broad-based training in the discipline of Religious Studies and a demonstrated ability to take a comparative approach to that field, whether within one tradition or across religious traditions; and/or additional training or teaching interests in one or more of the following areas: gender; art history; religion and literature; Islamic Studies; Jewish Studies. Application Instructions and Required Materials:

We are searching for a scholar and teacher with a passion for assisting church and academy in exploring scripture as it shapes the faith, practice and mission of the church. University of Oxford (UK) - Kennicott Fellow in Hebrew Studies

The Kennicott Fellowship is a fixed-term fellowship in Classical Hebrew or closely related disciplines, for an ambitious academic at an early stage of his or her career. This is a fixed-term junior research position that may also involve some teaching for our Hebrew and Jewish Studies courses. This is a 2 year appointment initially, with the potential for extension for a further year. The Fellow will be expected to take up the appointment in January 2019.

The Fellow will undertake research in Hebrew language and literature, or the cognate Semitic languages so far as they illustrate Hebrew. This will involve planning and describing a research project, managing and undertaking that research and the associated regular administrative activities, selecting and using appropriate specialist methodologies and designing research materials. She/he will gather, analyse, and present research data and undertake literature reviews as appropriate, writing up the results for publication and/or for presentation at conferences or similar events. As well as contributing to research publications, the Fellow will represent the research project at external meetings/seminars, and contribute to discussions and share research findings with colleagues in Hebrew and Jewish Studies in the University, in partner institutions, and research groups. The Kennicott Fellow may undertake a limited amount of additional university class or college tutorial teaching, for which separate payment will be made.

With a doctorate in an appropriate field by the time of appointment, the successful applicant will be able to present a sound and original research proposal and demonstrate a knowledge of Hebrew sufficient to undertake the proposed research. She/he will have the ability to plan and manage her/his own research and administrative activities, and possess excellent communication skills, including the ability to write text that can be published, present data at conferences, and represent the research project at meetings. Ideally, the applicant will also have experience teaching Hebrew or a related subject. Preference will be given to candidates whose research proposal is situated within the linguistic-philological approach and, as this is intended to be an early career position, to candidates who are in the early stages of their academic careers.
