Lecturer of Honors Program, Coastal Carolina University

The University Honors Program seeks a full-time Lecturer to teach five honors sections per semester in which special attention is given to the development of critical thinking, writing, and research in the sciences. Classes include multiple sections of 1) the Honors Introductory Seminar, 2) a two-semester senior thesis research sequence, 3) occasional service-learning classes and 4) an occasional course in the candidate's field of expertise. Appointment effective August 16, 2012. The salary range is $36,000 to $38,000 depending on qualifications and experience, and $40,000 with a terminal degree.

Qualifications: MA in an appropriate field is required at the time of hire, as is prior teaching experience at the college level. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to undergraduate teaching, proactively support all aspects of the Honors Program learning environment, and an enthusiasm for interdisciplinary curriculum development. Experience with interdisciplinary programs and/or writing across the disciplines, along with a background in the sciences is desired.

As part of this initiative, the Department of Biological Sciences at Virginia Tech anticipates a tenure-track opening in Molecular Ecology with an emphasis on the use of molecular genetic or genomic techniques to address questions related to the evolution, ecology and behavior of animals and/or plants, to start in August 2012. Appointment at the assistant professor level is anticipated but exceptional senior candidates will be considered.
