DOAKS Fellowships
I have issues with the way Dumbarton Oaks fellowships are distributed. For the last 1, 5 I have conducted an independant research regarding this issue and have discovered that for many years these fellowships are distributed to American scholars predominatly. Even though they are advertised as highly competative fellowships offered to students all over the world, this advertising is misleading. People who have been given fellowships are almost 90% from American Universities. Also, there are instances when these fellowships are given to people from same universities (few years in a row), to students supervised by a same person. Most of these applicants are not widely published autors, some of them only have 1-2 publications. Knowledge of la…

Temporary Experiment with Ads on this Wiki
Hi, I'm a member of Wikia's Community Support Team!
Over the next few weeks, we'll be conducting an experiment on this wiki to evaluate a new way of serving advertisements. During this time, text link ads from Google will appear on article pages in additional areas. These ads are meant to be highly targeted and relevant to the content on the page, and we're testing to see if they're better than our current system.
As usual, these ads will NOT display to registered users. Your regular contributors can avoid all ads just by staying logged in. Note that this is also tempoary: we will turn these experimental ads off as soon as we collect enough data to assess their effectiveness (we estimate a total of 2-4 weeks).

Community Colleges discriminating against PhDs?

Am I the only spouse who is about to have a breakdown if her husband doesn't get a job?
I am supportive, he works hard and just got his Ph.D. this semester from a top ten school. It took ten years and this is year three on the job market and according to his committee he has a strong dissertation. What does that all mean though if he doesn't even get one MLA interview this year? What the heck do you do if you spent 10 years pursuing something that may not support your family? We don't talk about it at home anymore but the air is thick and I sometimes don't want to go home anymore. Any words of wisdom and encouragement appreciated.
