Applications are invited for a tenure-track appointment at the Associate Professor level in Canadian Literature in the Department of English, Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies, York University, commencing July 1, 2011, subject to budgetary approval. While the field of specialization is open, we have particular needs in modern and contemporary fiction. Additional interests might include some combination of the following: Aboriginal, and/or Québécois, and/or multi-ethnic literatures; 19th-century Canadian writing; feminism and/or gender studies; critical theory and/or cultural studies; drama; creative writing; literary history. Candidates with strong interdisciplinary commitments are also encouraged to apply. Capacity to engage with francophone texts is an asset.
Qualifications include a PhD or equivalent in English Literature with specialization in Canadian literature, an active and ongoing research portfolio appropriate to appointment at an Associate Professor level within the advertised field, and substantial experience and demonstrable excellence in university teaching. It is expected that the successful candidate will teach one large-lecture course in Canadian Literature, contribute upper-year courses in her/his area of specialization, and participate actively in the graduate programme. The successful candidate shall be eligible for prompt appointment to the Faculty of Graduate Studies.
