Amherst College (MA) - TT Assistant Professor of Chinese Literature
The Department of Asian Languages and Civilizations seeks a specialist in Chinese literature for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning in July 2016. We seek candidates with expertise in modern or pre-modern Chinese literature, performing art, film, or popular culture. Those working across genres and media are especially encouraged to apply. Within the last decade, Amherst College has profoundly transformed its student body in terms of socioeconomic status, ethnicity, and nationality, among other areas. Today, nearly one-quarter of Amherst’s students are Pell Grant recipients; 43 percent of our students are domestic students of color. Our expectation is that the successful candidate will excel at teaching and mentoring students who are broadly diverse with regard to race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, gender, nationality, sexual orientation, and religion. The appointee will be expected to teach general courses that engage a broad range of students in Chinese culture and advanced courses for students concentrating in Chinese studies. Although regular teaching in the Chinese language program will not be expected, native or near-native fluency in Mandarin Chinese and facility in classical Chinese are required. The Department of East Asian Studies at Bucknell University invites applications for an open-rank, tenure-track faculty position to begin August 2016. We seek a teacher-scholar in the humanities (with the exception of history and religion) able to teach Chinese language at all levels in addition to courses in his/her area of specialization (applicants with expertise in art history, theatre, and/or visual culture are particularly encouraged to apply), and who is committed to integrating diversity issues into the curriculum. Candidates who will have a Ph.D. at the time employment begins, or who are ABD, will be considered. he Department of East Asian Languages and Civilizations at the University of Pennsylvania invites applications for a tenured associate professor of late imperial Chinese culture (ca. 1271-1912). The search committee welcomes applications from specialists in any field, preferably with competencies in at least two of the following areas: literature (including poetry, prose, fiction, and drama), cultural studies, and relations between China and Inner Asia. The successful candidate should have broad research interests centered on primary sources and strong training in relevant languages.
