Amherst College (MA) - TT Asst. Prof - Chinese Literature
The Department of Asian Languages and Civilizations seeks a specialist in Chinese literature for a tenure-track position at the rank of assistant professor beginning in July 2017. We seek candidates with expertise in modern or pre-modern Chinese literature, performing art, film, or popular culture. Those working across genres and media are especially encouraged to apply. Within the last decade, Amherst College has profoundly transformed its student body in terms of socioeconomic status, ethnicity, and nationality, among other areas. Today, nearly one-quarter of Amherst’s students are Pell Grant recipients; 44 percent of our students are domestic students of color. Boston University (MA) - East Asian Visual Media and Popular Culture
The Department of World Languages & Literatures at Boston University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in East Asian Visual Media and Popular Culture, to begin July 1, 2017. Carleton College (MN) - TT Assistant Professor of Chinese
Carleton College invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professorship in Chinese Language and Literature. The promise of excellence in scholarship and teaching is required. Teaching duties are five courses per year on a trimester schedule, which normally includes four courses of language instruction at all levels and one course of literature in translation. PhD or its imminent completion is required. Carthage College (WI) - Assistant Professor of Japanese and Chinese
Carthage College's Modern Languages Department seeks an active teacher-scholar in Japanese and Chinese. This is a three-year (renewable) position at the assistant professor level beginning in August 2017. We seek well-rounded candidates with experience in language instruction and undergraduate program development. The successful candidate will have the ability to teach a broad range of courses covering language, literature, and the cultures of Japan and China.
The Department of Modern Languages at Carthage is one of the largest at the College supporting majors and minors in Chinese, French, German, Japanese, and Spanish as well as the College's two-semester language requirement. In addition to full-time faculty, the Department has a cohort of young university graduates from around the world who teach introductory language and advanced conversation courses. A number of faculty teach two languages or teach in interdisciplinary programs such as Asian Studies, and Women and Gender Studies. All language majors study abroad for one semester, and Carthage is a national leader in short-term study abroad programs. We welcome a new colleague who has innovative ideas for contributing to an intellectual community for us and our students, including designing new courses, J-Term study tours, and extracurricular activities.
Duties and Responsibilities: The normal teaching load at the College is 3-1-3 (with every third January term off), and the teaching responsibilities for this position are one or two Japanese courses per semester, one or two Chinese courses per semester, and one course in Asian Studies per year. Courses taught will cover language as well as culture and literature at the intermediate and advanced levels.
The successful candidate will take an active role in program-building activities, including recruitment, retention, and advising of students; supervision of adjunct instructors and teaching assistants; advising of student organizations; and planning of student activities.
This new colleague will be expected to contribute to the life of the Department of Modern Languages and will have -demonstrated organizational skills.
Required Education and Experience: -Native or near-native command of Japanese and/or Chinese with at least advanced proficiency in the second language are required, as is native or near-native fluency in English. -Completion of a PhD from an accredited institution prior to or shortly after the date of hire. -The area of specialization is open; the successful candidate should have the skills and flexibility of a generalist; an interest in the scholarship of teaching is encouraged. -Interest in and experience with college-level teaching at all levels. -Demonstrated understanding of the nature and culture of a liberal arts college in the US and a commitment to small-college teaching.

The academic rank of the successful candidate will be based on the strength of his/her credentials. Hamilton College (NY) - TT Assistant Professor of East Asian Languages and Literatures (Chinese)
The East Asian Languages and Literatures Department at Hamilton College seeks applicants for a tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor of Chinese, to begin July 1, 2017. The candidate for the position must have a Ph.D. in Chinese Language Pedagogy, Linguistics, or Second Language Acquisition (a closely related field is preferred). Experience in computer-assisted language teaching or on-line teaching is a plus. A candidate with ABD will be considered but should have plans to complete the degree by July 1, 2017. Kalamazoo College seeks applications for a tenure track position at the Assistant Professor level in Chinese language, literature, and culture beginning late August 2017. The Department of Asian Studies at St. Olaf College seeks an energetic and committed teacher/scholar in Chinese Language and Asian Studies, beginning August 15, 2017. This is a tenure track position, expected at the assistant professor rank. Specialization in Chinese language and Asian Studies (including literature, theater, or interdisciplinary approaches such as film studies, cultural studies or the social sciences) preferred with a commitment to language pedagogy.
