Florida State University (FL) - TT Assistant Professor in East Asian Languages and Linguistics
The Department of Modern Languages and Linguistics at the Florida State University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in East Asian Languages and Linguistics beginning August 2018. The successful candidate will contribute to both undergraduate and graduate programs in the department's East Asian Division. Primary responsibilities of this position include English-taught courses in East Asian linguistics and language pedagogy, in addition to Chinese and/or Japanese language courses depending upon the candidate's expertise. Candidates should have by date of appointment a Ph.D. degree in linguistics or language pedagogy with a concentration in either Chinese or Japanese. Loyola Marymount University (CA) - TT Asst. Professor - Chinese
The Department of Modern Languages and Literatures at Loyola Marymount University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level. Applicants should hold a Ph. D in Chinese with specialization in Applied Linguistics, Linguistics, Second Language Acquisition or Sociolinguistics. Applicants must demonstrate excellence in language teaching at the college level, and possess native/near native proficiency in Chinese and English. Northwestern University (IL) - Associate or Full Professor - Asian Humanities
The Department of Asian Languages and Cultures at Northwestern University seeks to appoint a full-time, tenured faculty member in a field in the Asian Humanities beginning in Fall, 2018. The successful candidate will hold a joint position at the Department of Communication and the Asian Studies Program. The Department of Communication specializes in the interdisciplinary and critical study of media, technology, and transnational communication. The Asian Studies Program provides students with a multi-disciplinary approach to the study of Asian cultures and languages with a primary focus on China, Japan, and Southeast Asia. The Department of East Asian Studies in the School of International Languages, Literatures and Cultures (SILLC) at the University of Arizona invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Chinese Studies. Ph.D. in hand is expected by the time of the appointment, August 2018.
We seek applicants with a specialization in the ancient period. Applicants should have solid training in early Chinese texts, thought, and language, as well as an active research agenda with the potential to attract outside funding. Areas of expertise may include early Chinese literary thought and textual traditions, paleography, etc. We are particularly interested in scholars with innovative, interdisciplinary approaches to unearthed documents, early/Classical literary theory, and pre-Buddhist thought.
Teaching responsibility will be four courses per year, including undergraduate and graduate courses in areas covering Daoism, Confucianism, and the area of specialization; and a lower-division Chinese Civilization course.
Successful candidates will have an ability to emphasize the relevance of early Chinese culture across fields and to contemporary China. They will also show aptitude for engaging and dynamic teaching methods, such as experiential education and digital platforms. Outreach is an important aspect of the College of Humanities' mission, and it is expected that the successful applicant will be engaged in this enterprise, either through public lectures, community engagement, or study abroad. This is a benefits-eligible position and the appointment starts in August 2018.

The Department of World Languages at the University of Arkansas invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Chinese, to begin August 2018. Our position requires a PhD in Chinese language or linguistics or closely related discipline in hand by August 2018, native or near-native fluency in Mandarin Chinese and fluency in English, and candidates must be familiar with the Chinese Pinyin System. The Department of Asian Studies, University of British Columbia (Vancouver campus), invites applications for a tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor in the field of Premodern Chinese Literature. University of Chicago (IL) - TT Asst. Professor - Chinese Cinema
The Department of Cinema and Media Studies at the University of Chicago is seeking applications for a tenure-track appointment at the level of Assistant Professor in the field of Chinese cinemas, expected to begin July 1, 2018 or as soon as possible thereafter. Candidates must have demonstrable research potential and teaching qualifications in that field. It is preferred that they also be qualified to both teach introductory and required courses in film theory and history, and to direct doctoral theses.
