The Department of Modern Languages and Linguistics at the Florida State University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in East Asian Languages and Linguistics beginning August 2018. The successful candidate will contribute to both undergraduate and graduate programs in the department's East Asian Division. Primary responsibilities of this position include English-taught courses in East Asian linguistics and language pedagogy, in addition to Chinese and/or Japanese language courses depending upon the candidate's expertise. Candidates should have by date of appointment a Ph.D. degree in linguistics or language pedagogy with a concentration in either Chinese or Japanese. Applicants with interest or specialization in historical linguistics are especially welcome. Preference will be given to candidates with native or near-native proficiency in both Chinese and Japanese, as well as fluency in English.

The Department of Modern Languages and Literatures at Loyola Marymount University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level. Applicants should hold a Ph. D in Chinese with specialization in Applied Linguistics, Linguistics, Second Language Acquisition or Sociolinguistics. Applicants must demonstrate excellence in language teaching at the college level, and possess native/near native proficiency in Chinese and English. The successful candidate must have knowledge of language proficiency assessment, expertise in the application of technology to language pedagogy, and experience teaching or developing engaged learning courses. The department is particularly interested in candidates with an inter-disciplinary teaching portfolio which will allow to cross-list courses with the Asian and Asian American Studies Department, the School of Education, or other disciplines.
The normal teaching load for LMU faculty is 2-2-2-3 four unit courses in a two year cycle including lower and upper division language, and content classes taught in Chinese and English. Duties include the coordination of the Chinese minor Program, and teaching Linguistic courses in English for the Modern Languages major. Evidence of strong scholarship or scholarly potential in areas consistent with the requirements of the position is necessary. Salary is competitive.

The School of Liberal Arts at Tulane University invites applications for a tenure track position at the Assistant Professor rank on Asian Media and Asian languages. The appointment will begin July 2018 and it will carry a 2/2 teaching load.
The successful candidate will hold a joint position at the Department of Communication and the Asian Studies Program. The Department of Communication specializes in the interdisciplinary and critical study of media, technology, and transnational communication. We are especially interested in qualified applicants whose research addresses Asian or Asian American media/communication and their intersection with race, ethnicity, gender and/or class. We encourage scholars who can teach Service Learning courses to apply.
The Asian Studies Program provides students with a multi-disciplinary approach to the study of Asian cultures and languages with a primary focus on China, Japan, and Southeast Asia. The successful candidate should possess the ability and willingness to teach one Asian language course (preferably Chinese or Japanese) per academic year and one seminar in English about a topic related to Asia and/or Asian Americans. Language teaching experience is preferred.

University of Arizona (AZ) - TT Assistant Professor of Chinese Studies[]
The Department of East Asian Studies in the School of International Languages, Literatures and Cultures (SILLC) at the University of Arizona invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Chinese Studies. Ph.D. in hand is expected by the time of the appointment, August 2018.
We seek applicants with a specialization in the ancient period. Applicants should have solid training in early Chinese texts, thought, and language, as well as an active research agenda with the potential to attract outside funding. Areas of expertise may include early Chinese literary thought and textual traditions, paleography, etc. We are particularly interested in scholars with innovative, interdisciplinary approaches to unearthed documents, early/Classical literary theory, and pre-Buddhist thought.
Teaching responsibility will be four courses per year, including undergraduate and graduate courses in areas covering Daoism, Confucianism, and the area of specialization; and a lower-division Chinese Civilization course.
Successful candidates will have an ability to emphasize the relevance of early Chinese culture across fields and to contemporary China. They will also show aptitude for engaging and dynamic teaching methods, such as experiential education and digital platforms. Outreach is an important aspect of the College of Humanities' mission, and it is expected that the successful applicant will be engaged in this enterprise, either through public lectures, community engagement, or study abroad. This is a benefits-eligible position and the appointment starts in August 2018.

The Department of Asian Studies, University of British Columbia (Vancouver campus), invites applications for a tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor in the field of Premodern Chinese Literature. Field of expertise is open, but applications from specialists in narrative fiction or drama/theatre from the middle period to late imperial period are particularly welcome. The Department of Cinema and Media Studies at the University of Chicago is seeking applications for a tenure-track appointment at the level of Assistant Professor in the field of Chinese cinemas, expected to begin July 1, 2018 or as soon as possible thereafter. Candidates must have demonstrable research potential and teaching qualifications in that field. It is preferred that they also be qualified to both teach introductory and required courses in film theory and history, and to direct doctoral theses. We welcome a wide variety of approaches - historical, theoretical, aesthetic, archival, comparative - and topics. The successful candidate will be fluent in both Chinese and English. Although this appointment is within the Department of Cinema and Media Studies, it will co-ordinate closely with the Department of East Asian Languages and Civilizations as a part of our joint doctoral degree program.
