Brown University (RI) - TT Open Rank - Late Imperial (Ming-Qing) Literature and Culture
The Department of East Asian Studies invites applications for an open-rank position in late imperial (Ming-Qing) literature and culture, effective July 1, 2015. Ph.D. required at the time of appointment. The successful candidate will be responsible for establishing a curriculum in the study of Classical Chinese and to teach content courses in Ming and Qing literature and culture. Demonstrated excellence or, at the junior level, evidence of potential excellence in scholarship and teaching is expected. The Department of East Asian Studies at Bucknell University invites applications for an open-rank, tenure-track faculty position to begin August 2015. We seek a teacher-scholar in the humanities (with the exception of history and religion) able to teach Chinese language at all levels in addition to courses in his/her area of specialization (applicants with expertise in art history, linguistics, theatre, and/or visual culture are particularly encouraged to apply), and who is committed to integrating diversity issues into the curriculum. The Department of World Languages and Literatures at the College of Staten Island (CSI), a senior college of The City University of New York (CUNY), invites applications for a tenure-track position of Assistant Professor of Chinese, beginning in August 2015. The successful candidate will be expected to teach not only various levels of Mandarin Chinese but also classical Chinese literature courses or courses on Chinese culture. Ability to teach various levels of Japanese or Korean is highly desirable. Ph.D. degree in Chinese literature/culture or a related field is required and must be in hand by the time of appointment. Dartmouth College - Assistant Professor of Chinese Language and Literature
The Department of Asian and Middle Eastern Languages and Literatures invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor rank in Chinese Language and Literature. Appointment will become effective July 1, 2015, with teaching duties beginning in September 2015. Applicants for this position must have native or near native proficiency in English and Modern Standard Chinese, and a Ph.D. in hand by the time of appointment.
The field of specialization is open, but we have particular interest in candidates working in traditional fiction, modern literature, and/or film. It is our hope that the appointee will share our vision of treating language and literature courses as integrated components of an undergraduate liberal arts curriculum. In addition, candidates should have a demonstrated commitment to foreign language instruction and must be able, willing, and enthusiastic about teaching both Chinese literature in English translation and Chinese language courses at all levels. The successful candidate will participate in administering the Chinese language program and will direct the annual twelve-week Summer Foreign Study Program in Beijing once every 2 or 3 years.

- OP here. Thanks. It looks like they hired someone on the Japan side, but the China side remains a mystery. Oh well, it doesn't matter. Crappy market this year.
- Of the three years I've been on this market, this has been by far the worst. Also, the wiki has become progressively less informative each year. Not sure if fewer people read it or if everyone's so desperate they play their cards close to their chest. But yeah, I think this particular search has been troubled somehow.
- This is the first time I know and use Wiki. I agree that it is not quite informative, at least in our field. I know some applicant in German Studies indeed got lots of information. In addition, I do feel that some search committees are lack of common sense of courtesy. They never replied to any of your polite inquiries on their next stage of search even though they just interviewed you or contacted you a couple of days ago. Hopefully if we become members of search committtee someday we won't treat applicants in the same way.
- They did make a hire when they ran a similar search in 2012-2013 (OSU PhD who works on folksongs). Not sure if they are expanding/replacing retiring faculty or if the recent hire is leaving, though his profile is still up on their department page.

The Center for East Asian Studies at Stanford University is pleased to offer a postdoctoral fellowship in Chinese Studies for the 2015-16 academic year. This award is open to scholars in the humanities and social sciences studying any historical period. The fellowship will begin September 1, 2015 and end August 31, 2016, with a 12-month stipend of approximately $60,000. Fellows are required to be in residence in the Stanford area during the appointment period; to teach one course during the academic year; and to participate in all regular Center activities. Stanford University Press will have first right of refusal for manuscripts produced during the postdoctoral appointment.
