Requested More Information[]

  • Catholic University (10/12)
  • Marquette (letters of recommendation)
  • Texas State University, San Marcos (letter rec'd 9/16)
  • Texas State University, San Marcos (Letter rec'd 10/14)
  • UC San Diego (Communication and the Person) Letters of recommendation (1/22)- how did you find this out? My electronic app still says "letter not requested" even though they said letter requests were automatic upon submission of the application...

A: One of my letter writers told me, and then I confirmed by chkng the online application. (2/2)

--Follow up Q: Does anyone know if the recruiting dept at UCSD has to activate the recommendation letter request? I'm in the same boat: status reads "letter not requested" but I thought letters were automatically requested by the application system. If the dept has to take action that would both explain long delay between app deadline and website update as well as explain why some people's status never changes from "letter not requested"--i.e., those folks didn't make the next cut. Anyone know? --I was told not to read anything into the letter requested/not requested status. Haven't seen where they've scheduled phone/on campus interviews, so maybe we're all still in the game.

-- what is the norm in Communication? to ask for all letters or, like in anthropology, to only ask the long-list? why was someone advised not to read too much into some people being asked, and other not. Seems like a long=list cut to me!

--on campus scheduled 2/6

  • NCA gossip reports that Vanderbilt is doing interviews at NCA, although emails suggest that applications will not be reviewed until 1/1/09
*I would not trust this gossip.* -- why?
     Vandy did interviews at NCA
As I understand it, they did not do "interviews" at all, but the most preliminary of informal, non-committal conversations
with some members of the applicant pool who were unknown to them. These are clearly not interviews in the traditional sense
and probably should not be interpreted as such.
Certainly. That should be said/assumed for many of the NCA interviews. I think the point is that they seem to have gone through the selection process for at least the first cut. They met with candidates but not ALL candidates.
