Oberlin College (OH, USA). Assistant Prof of Comparative Literature https://jobs.oberlin.edu/postings/15605

  • any updates here? (Oct 22) x2
  • still nothing? this is an internal hire for their VAP, right? R1: That was my impression as soon as I saw the profile; the work is extremely timely. In all honesty, I'm kind of rooting for the VAP!
  • nothing here (10/31), though I have heard this rumor as well. who knows!
  • received rejection email (11/5) x3
  • also lol at rooting for the VAP! (11/5)
  • rejection email (Nov 5). after careful consideration of their VAP, they decided this was an internal hire. ;-)
  • this is sort of a hilarious rejection, since it doesn't actually mention that the recipient wasn't selected. rejection without a technical rejection ----> in a special way, we get to reject ourselves :)
  • it just seems extra insulting, in the current market, to run a fake search if you have a VAP that you already want to hire. There are three jobs on this list. One was a 4-4-2, one all the way in Japan and this one is a fake search. JFC. ---> yeah, pretty demoralizing year for comparatists.
  • anyone else rather annoyed that they had the audacity to ask for tailored syllabi for a fake job? Like, just let me send my usual writing sample, don’t waste everyone’s time like this… x2
  • this rejection made me check the job portal just to make sure it was in fact, a rejection. The worst form email I've received. Ever lol.
  • 11/22: campus visits ongoing (started last week)

TT/NT: Tenure-track or Non-tenure track.

FT/PT: Full-Time or Part-Time
