The selected candidate will be invited to join one of the following departments: Anthropology, Community Studies, Economics, Education, Environmental Studies, Latin American & Latino Studies, Politics, Psychology, Sociology, and also contribute to new program development and teaching in Global Community Health (GCH).
The selected candidate will be an outstanding researcher on global and community health with a focus on social justice issues such as socio-economic inequalities, structural violence, war, disability, trauma, and migration. Applicants might also have expertise in global health security, health rights, law and governance, development, disease surveillance, the politics of health policy reform, biometrics, mental health, or health activism. Strong candidates will possess collaborative and organizational skills based on experiences working with diverse communities through collaborative partnerships (e.g., with non-profits, NGOs, foundations, community-based organizations, schools and/or local governments). We are especially interested in a scholar who takes a broad historical and geographical approach to specific, grounded health problems; who works to understand seemingly “local” issues within global economic, environmental and political processes. Our interests align with the emerging framework of “critical global health” that calls for research attentive to power dynamics and inequality, and in which scholars are accountable to the communities they study.
Applicants should have expertise in global health research, demonstrate a strong commitment to mentoring GCH majors/minors and other undergraduates, to guiding students on appropriate GCH applications, and to developing GCH’s community partnerships. We are conducting another separate search focused on health justice and quantitative research at the same time with a similar timeline for application and assessment. https://recruit.ucsc.edu/JPF00787 In both searches consideration of potential contributions to the interdisciplinary GCH programming and to diversity, equity, and inclusion will be of paramount importance.
The selected candidate will contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through research, teaching, and service and must be able to work with students, faculty and staff from a wide range of social and cultural backgrounds. The selected candidate will hold a 100 percent teaching and research appointment in a department in the Division of Social Sciences and will be expected to teach courses in support of GCH’s goals and contribute to graduate education and the mentoring of graduate students. The normal teaching load in the division is four courses over three quarters. The faculty members in the division conduct high quality, cutting edge, interdisciplinary research, and perform university, public, and professional service. The division confers the most undergraduate degrees on campus, and each department has a Ph.D. program.
UC Santa Cruz values diversity, equity, and inclusion and is committed to hiring faculty who share these values. UC Santa Cruz is a Hispanic-Serving Institution with a high proportion of first-in-family students. To be considered, candidates must demonstrate an understanding of the barriers facing traditionally underrepresented groups and must discuss their past and/or future contributions to diversity, equity, and inclusion through research, teaching, and service.

Position Description: The Department of Anthropology in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Washington invites applications for an anthropologist to teach in the area of medical anthropology and global health (MAGH). The criteria for merit evaluation and promotion in this position will be based primarily on teaching and service and not on research. This is a 3-year, renewable, full-time Lecturer position with competitive salary, university benefits, opportunities for promotion, and protection of academic freedom. The appointment will begin in September 2020.
UW Anthropology lecturers engage in teaching, advising, and mentoring and have an annual service period of nine months (September 16-June 15). Other professional duties will include service to the Department and University, most of which will be curriculum-related. The Department of Anthropology is committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive academic community. Members of the Department of Anthropology who participate in the MAGH option maintain strong connections to a variety of other units on campus, including the Center for Teaching and Learning, Center for Studies in Demography and Ecology, Center for American Indian and Indigenous Studies, Center for Social Science Computation and Research, Center for Statistics and the Social Sciences, Department of Global Health, Indigenous Wellness Research Institute, The Burke Museum, Jackson School for International Studies, Schools of Public Health and Medicine, the Science Studies Network, and the Simpson Center for the Humanities. The University of Washington serves a diverse population of 80,000 students, faculty and staff, including 34% first-generation college students and over 27% Pell Grant students.
Teaching responsibilities are (6) classes over 3 quarters, including a lower division, introductory course that is offered each quarter in Medical Anthropology and Global Health (ANTH 215, a large lecture class with 3 teaching assistants). The remaining courses will include upper division courses that are or can be approved for the MAGH option (see http://depts.washington.edu/anthweb/undergrad/tracks-options/med ).
Qualifications: The successful candidate will have a teaching record that includes medical anthropology, the anthropology of health, or anthropological approaches to global health concerns and issues. They will be expected to complement existing expertise in the MAGH program. The successful candidate will have topical expertise in community-engaged and participatory health approaches, intersectionality, ethics, health disparities, or decolonizing approaches to medical anthropology and global health. They must demonstrate strong commitments to integrity, equity, access, and inclusion in their teaching. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated record of excellence in undergraduate teaching, pedagogical innovation, and introducing students to research. Applicants must have earned a doctorate, or foreign equivalent, in anthropology or related field, by the date of appointment; however, applicants who have not completed their PhD at the time of application will be considered.
Instructions: To apply, use Interfolio and please include the following items: (1) cover letter, (2) curriculum vitae highlighting prior teaching experience, (3) up to 3 syllabi, evidence of teaching efficacy, and a list of courses prepared to teach, including at least one large lecture course; (4) a teaching statement describing teaching philosophy, equity in the classroom, awareness of teaching challenges and their possible solutions, the centrality of ethics in teaching, and experience or goals regarding student mentoring in research or other realms. We are especially eager to attract applicants whose teaching foci address the question: In what ways might a decolonizing framework in medical anthropology and global health facilitate the work of challenging the status quo, to create health systems founded on equity, compassion, and social and racial justice?; (5) a vision on diversity statement that highlights how your teaching can contribute to diversity by making higher education accessible to, and relevant for, individuals from underrepresented groups; and (6) the names and contacts for three referees. As a guideline, we are looking for 1-2 pages (single-spaced) for each of the statements. The cover letter should be addressed to Dr. Bettina Shell Duncan, search committee chair, Department of Anthropology. Priority will be given to applications received by 5 PM PST, January 15, 2020.

UNLISTED TT POSITIONS; Deadlines Passed[]
Hi all, I appreciate this page if only so far as a means to occasionally end my miserable waiting on various applications. As someone who has been on the market several times, it seems like participation and content is really down vs. past years and vs. other disciplinary pages--perhaps a symptom of our ever-more depressing job market and some kind of declining solidarity in the face of that. In the spirit of a lurker trying to do my part, here is a catch-all section for stuff that has already passed, but about which we might want updates. I have no information beyond what I've listed.
These positions didn't make the wiki so far:
