- Anyone know what's going on with this one? Most of the ads came out after they started reviewing (x3).
- This position received a very large pool of applicants, like all other jobs on the market currently. And I saw at least two ads for this position before the Nov 30 review date. <--Where? They weren't on national joblists like Chronicle, H-Net, Inside Higher Ed, MLA, etc., until after. <--Announcements were passed around through the faculty and shared with listhosts.
- Please do not delete others' comments or questions.
- This program has been under a lot of scrutiny by the college and it hasn't been a pretty process. They have a lot of lecturers that are applying for the job and might have the inside track.
- Fair enough. They have some great people there in non-tenure positions. <-- Really? Exactly what is fair about posting a job, and inviting candidates to spend time and money to submit an application and dossier, if it is already known before the job is posted that outside candidates are not really going to get a fair look? I get it that this is sometimes done to meet arbitrary institutional demands, but using the word "fair" to describe the practice sugarcoats it in a way that Dick Cheney would admire.<--- I bet if you were the highly qualified person already working there you would think it fair that you had a better shot than someone who doesn't already work there. Certainly, the fact that the are required to advertise it nationally despite having an "inside" candidate (if they do) is not fair to anyone. I don't think anyone was saying that. <-- I never thought the phrase "fair enough" meant anything at all about the justice of a situation; rather, it's an expression of understanding. That is, that if a person understands Columbia College's situation, it is understandable as to why they would have a lot of, for lack of a better term, "insiders." If anyone applying for this job bothered to do research about the institution, they would know that the majority of the faculty are adjuncts, and it is understandable that many are applying for the position!
- Does the person posting information about how the ad was dispersed have an idea when candidates might be contacted for interviews? <--March at the latest. CCC has a history of hiring at the last minute, a lot of decisions are made at the end of the semester or over the summer.
- Any word? 2/6
