Tenure-track assistant professor position focused on design and society..

The candidate must hold a Ph.D. (or equivalent degree) in a field relevant to the intersection of design and society, such as: 1) a design discipline with a focus on the social dimensions of design; 2) science and technology studies; 3) engineering education; or 4) a related area.

We seek candidates with an established research record at the intersection of design and society; a dedication to teaching and experience developing novel ways of engaging students; and the capacity for academic program development. Applicants should demonstrate the ability to effectively engage students and faculty from diverse disciplines and be prepared to participate actively within an intellectually and demographically diverse department. The successful candidate will be expected to continue developing an individual research program; to teach and participate in the development of interdisciplinary design studios and courses on the social dimensions of engineering and design; and to contribute service through student advising and academic program development within EDS and across campus.

POSITION: Assistant/Associate Professor of Interior Design

EFFECTIVE DATE: August 17, 2016, (Fall Semester)

SALARY RANGE: Commensurate with qualifications and experience

Minimum Qualifications

MFA/M.A. in Interior Design, Interior Architecture or Architecture
Demonstrated effectiveness for teaching design at the college level
Demonstrated proficiency in industry-standard software and computer-aided design
Demonstrated experience as a design consultant or staff designer
Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population

Desired/Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated excellence in college-level teaching design foundation courses and advanced interior design courses
Demonstrated professional experience in lighting design
Demonstrated professional accomplishment in the field at a national and/or international level
Demonstrated on-going engagement in the field, including knowledge of current Interior Design trends and professional practices.

Duties

Teach foundation, beginning, intermediate and advanced courses in both design and interior design.
Develop and refine curriculum.
Advise students.
Produce peer-reviewed research, scholarly and creative activities related to the fields of Interior Design/Interior Architecture at the national/international level.
Participate in service to the department, college, university, and community.

Demonstrated excellence in college-level teaching of design foundation courses and studio industrial design courses (including hand sketching, digital illustration, 3D CAD/CAM and/or 3D printing)
Demonstrated on-going engagement in the field, including knowledge of current Industrial Design trends and professional practices
Demonstrated experience in one or more of the following: Entrepreneurship, Design Management, UX design, Branding, Design Thinking, Making and/or Manufacturing
Demonstrated excellence in the field
Demonstrated service to the industry, community, or university
