-3/18/2025: Congratulations to all those who have received an offer! That is amazing. I wanted to ask: does anyone know if people who are on the waitlist are also notified that they are on the waitlist, or is it more of an internal list that they turn to once they see who has accepted by March 26th? (Answer: past years seem to indicate the latter, so a kind of “hidden” waitlist that you don’t know you’re on, until suddenly you get an award letter. In years past, people have reported receiving an offer 2-3 days after initial award emails, but it’s unclear whether they do this in phases or on an ad hoc basis.)

-3/20/2025: Anyone know here if fellowship recipients get any kind of feedback or score? (Answer: Not sure about fellowship recipients, but I know that those who didn’t get the fellowship can request the feedback of the reviewers on their application; the process for that is usually outlined in the email they will eventually send about not getting it.)

- 3/28/2025 Received official award documents today via email at 4:49pm EST. In the past, rejections seem to have gone out a day or two after award recipients got their official documents.

-4/01/2025 it seems that from pervious data, "waitlisted" applicants who received offers should've heard back at this point :/ just waiting for my rejection letter for closure rip

-4/2/2025: In case it's useful, fellowship recipients have until April 7th to submit materials for the public announcement, which will occur later in April. Last year rejections were sent on 4/5. I agree with the comment above—it is very likely that waitlisted applicants, if any, already heard back.

-4/7/2025: Rejection email received. Proposal named as alternate for support, but “all funds have now been committed.” Email says “ACLS automatically provides reviewer feedback for those who were selected as alternates; you do not need to request it. We will make those available to you by the beginning of June.” I was surprised to find out the waitlist thing was real in the end!

-4/16/2: if we haven’t received any sort of communication—acceptance, waitlist, or rejection—should we reach out?

4/29/2025: 2025 Fellows announced today. Interesting line-up, looking forward to applying next year.

3/17-Has anyone heard anything? I saw on another forum that someone got a rejection letter on Feb. 28. Seems like a long time without any word from then to now.

3/17 - nothing. based on last year's wiki, there are 2 big rounds of cuts before getting to the finalists - one in late feb and one last week march. then the winners/alternates chosen from there and notified late april. idk how true that is for this year

1/16 - no news yet. Looking at previous years, this stage might be happening earlier than in past application cycles?

1/17 - no news yet (1 pm est). This app cycle is different from the past, this is the first time they’ll reach out to finalists this early, and ask them to submit recommendations and a 15-25 page proposal. In the past finalists were notified by late feb and didn’t have to submit anything else. If anyone hears anything please write here, this wait is anxiety inducing!

1/17 - no news here either. Does anyone know if they changed the rule they had about other grants that one can accept during the same academic year? I think it was something like no more than 75% of the total amount of Newcombe, but there's no mention of it on their website...

1/28 haven't heard anything either, and I don't see anything at the portal... i'm also assuming i'm not a finalist, even though it's weird that rejection emails are sent with such separate timeframes

1/29 - if you haven't received a notification yet, contact the ISTS Chat support. All notifications were supposed to be sent by 1/21. They told me I didn't get mine because of a system error, and they were able to send the 'lost notification' to my email which was, of course, not finalist.

3/26 - On the home page in the portal, my application's status has changed to Awarded. Anyone else also seeing a change in status?

- One of the Awarded mentions above. No email yet but I expect one shortly. As of last night, there is also an Acceptance Form on the portal for accepting or declining the fellowship. --update: also received an email at around the same time as the poster below. In case those on the waitlist are wondering, we have been given the deadline of May 1st for accepting or declining the fellowship.

- yes, they replied to my inquiry about when I could expect a notification about my application by telling me that I wasn't awarded the fellowship. again, not sure what this means for the one person that was awarded - maybe they already got an email, or maybe a full round of notification emails will be sent sometime soon and I just got a sneak-peak, lol

05/07/25 - Decisions have started coming out for the Research and Study awards for multiple countries.

10/30/24: The national deadline is way earlier this year - January 15 (university deadlines are usually weeks before that date)

This award was cancelled this year, not sure if it will be there next year.

1/29 - notification of alternate status, with note that final status will be conveyed by second week of March

2/28 - notification of rejection, with notice to reapply next year if this was first application cycle. I was an applicant awarded alternate status both last year and this year, so this one really sucked. The 26-month award period, reduced number of awards (they used to give out ~12 a year and now do 7!!!), and only being eligible to apply twice are really warping this award. Lol guess I'm not finishing my dissertation!

To the above: thank you! do you know if they normally conduct interviews?

As far as I know, they do not - a colleague received the fellowship a few years ago and was shocked given the late notification and lack of prior communication.

I believe the Hertziana does interview, but I don't think the others do.

Hertziana notifies finalists in January and interviews shortly thereafter. Final announcements go out late Feb.

Applied, have heard nothing as of 3/20/25. (Still nothing as of 4/10/25.) (I received the same 4/17 email that they have extended their timeline. To the comment below on 4/28, it's now May 1, and haven't heard a followup. No idea when they intend to communicate decisions.)

Ditto, applied. It looks like last year it was mid April when someone posted being notified as an alternate. (Same, still nothing 4/10/25. Ugh, waiting is hard.)

6/30 - my colleagues heard but I have yet to receive any email. Wait listed? // also rejected later in the evening

6/30 - same as above--no news yet and not sure how to interpret that. How were others notified?// Never mind, just got the rejection email. Maybe they have to send them out one at a time so it takes a while to let everyone know...

6/30 - notification of award by email! They really waited until the last minute on this one. The email I received requested I complete an acceptance form that was supposed to be attached to the email, but wasn't properly attached. Also, for future applicants who may be staring at their portals, as an actual recipient when I log in to the portal as of 7/1 my application status still says "under consideration" (oddly enough). Not sure if this will change after they process my acceptance form.

6/30 - notification as an alternate. not sure how many alternates they have and how much chance do we have for being promoted
