Word on the Street[]

Just a note to my fellow job-seekers at the end of this cycle to say congrats to those who landed your ideal job, and "better luck next year" to those of you who didn't. It's a rough process, full of more downs than ups, but I do wish you all well whether or not you stick with academia (which will likely be a very real choice for many of you).

2/14: Any updates from the UNC Wilmington folks? Good luck, all.

  • Nothing yet.
  • UNCW had campus visits thru early/mid Feb

Is the College of Charleston job legit? Can’t find it on their website.

  • Interesting. It was posted on a job board and the link was live, but seems to be null. My guess is that it will go back up in the near future.

Anyone heard back from Boston College or U Minnesota?

Folks, I relied on the academicjobs wiki for many years as a digest of all the postings out there. But today I'm learning that there's been a EM including Shakespeare TT position at Boston College posted since August. It closes in less than a week. Just FYI, I don't think I can rely on this any longer.

^To the above poster -- I empathize, though I've always used this site as a "backup" to my usual searches on the many academic job boards out there. I've realized that you have to regularly scour several job boards with multiple search terms to truly find everything. And in fairness, I can't blame users for not wanting to input info for jobs they're aware of. It's such a competitive market that the hope is to find a great position that nobody else knows about, just to give you a better chance. Sad times.

^The MLA JIL (Jobs Info List) is a more reliable source for equitable job postings, and is no longer behind a paywall. This typically goes live in early September and is continually updated throughout the job search season.

*Anyone heard anything about the progress of the Alberta hire?
