Word on the Street[]

  • NC State-Early Americanist search-Has anyone heard anything? Their call for applications went out in August. 11/2 (no news here Nov. 2; no word here either 11/4)
  • Still nothing 11/15
  • They seem to have reopened the search? Indeed.com lists them as a new position as of 11/21. Either this is just an automated job re-posting, or they didn't like their applicants and wanted to reopen the search.
  • NC State Zoom interview scheduled mid-Dec (Nov 21) x2
    • NC State campus visit invite Dec 14
    • Any post-visit news from NCSU? Wishing/waiting! 2/29
    • still nothing here…3/6
    • Nothing either 3/8. They are on spring break starting the 11th
  • Mt. Holyoke just closed applications. I imagine it's too early; but please post here if you hear anything. 11/2
  • Nothing yet 11/15
  • * Heard from recommender Nov 18 that LOR was requested
  • Mt. Holyoke - Any word about interviews post-letter of recommendation request - Nov. 21?
  • Interview request Dec 1 x2
  • Anyone remember what they said about when to expect campus visit invites? (12/19)
    • iirc we weren't expecting to hear until January.
    • Mt Holyoke campus visit invite 12/20
    • Anyone get an offer from Mt. Holyoke? (2/4)
    • Received rejection and notice that offer was made 2/14
  • Any word UT Knoxville? (Nov 2)-Nothing yet; but the call for applications just ended on 30 Oct., so I'm guessing later in November 11/4
  • Nothing here either 11/15 (will they be asking for a writing sample you think?)
    • 11/17 Interview request along with request for writing sample and three LORs x2
    • what school? Please specify?!
    • The 11/17 is for UTKnoxville
    • Received UTK rejection Nov 21 x 2
    • Notified didn’t make it to first round of campus invites but application remains active 12/19
    • Told the position has been filled - congrats to the lucky assistant prof! 02/19
  • I'd recommend applying for the less competitive C19 school positions, such as Mississippi University for Women, Sam Houston State, UT-Martin, and anything else. The move would be a lateral one for me, so I'm not applying to these schools.
    • Any add'l recs for jobs in states that are safer for Q/T people?-I'm sorry that this is even an issue. I work at a Southern university. The department is Q/T friendly and openly so. But the surrounding community? The only other C19 jobs I've noted are Frances Marion and TCU -- both red states.
    • Francis Marion University is a Q/T friendly institution and the faculty there reflect that.
      • <3 thank you
    • Also, was anyone able to figure out the rec upload situation for UT Martin? I can't get any response from HR or chair.
    • UTM: Zoom interview 12/8 and was told they would likely hold campus interviews in January. No follow up yet, just silence. Anyone get a follow up email with either rejection or campus invite after initial Zoom interview?
    • Has anyone heard back from UTM? Western Tennessee had a crippling snowstorm at the beginning of the semester. I am assuming this slowed down the search committee. No communication from the committee post zoom interview.
  • [12/6] Any news from
    • Mississippi UW?
      • Received a request for LoR. According to their webpage, this could be a sign that interview requests are about to come out. Also, does anyone know how much teaching this job entails?
        • Was the LOR request straight to you or to your referees?
        • Invited for Zoom interview 1/31. I did not receive a LOR request (potentially my referees did and haven't mentioned it).
        • Any news post Zoom?
        • Campus invite 2/20
    • Lindsey Wilson?
      • LWC zoom interview invite Dec. 13
      • LWC campus visit invite Jan 19
      • LWC campus invite Jan 21
      • Any news post visit?
    • TCU ?
  • This is not an update on the Lindsey Wilson search but you all should know they do not have a tenure system, just promotion and multi-year contracts
  • 12/7 How about updates from the university of Oklahoma pre1900 job? Anybody hear anything about campus visits?
    • Invitation to campus visit for OU (11/29)
  • 2/3: Has anyone heard from FMU?
    • FMU Zoom interviews last week (2/12).
    • Offer Accepted (4/8)
  • 2/8: Have interviews gone out for Sam Houston State University?
  • Interview request Rice Lecturer/VAP (3/22)
  • same re Rice interview. Any news?
  • None as of 4/3. Were there going to be visits? Wasn't clear.
  • 4/3 Rice. No mention of visits as far as I am aware.
  • 4/17 Word on Rice?
  • 4/17 Rice: no word on my end
  • 4/19 MUW offer made, declined due to extenuating circumstances
  • 4/20 withdrew from Rice, Wm&M VATP due to accepting other offer.
