The School of Education (SOE) at American University invites applications for the tenure-line position of Assistant Professor of Urban Education. The appointment is a tenure track, full-time faculty position, based in Washington DC, commencing at the end of August 2023.

Position responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in teacher education and/or education policy and leadership programs as relevant to the selected candidate's teaching and research interests.  The selected candidate will produce high-quality scholarship and will work in collaborative partnerships with local school professionals. We seek faculty members who have demonstrated a commitment to social justice, equity, and inclusion. Commitment to such issues is integral to this position.

Responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining an active research agenda.
  • Chairing and serving on EdD dissertation committees.
  • Teaching courses, reflective of antiracist knowledges, literacies, and capacities. (2-2 load).
  • Advising and mentoring students.
  • Seeking external funding.
  • Providing service and leadership to the program, SOE, and American University community.


  • Doctorate in urban education, teacher education, educational policy and/or leadership, or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated commitment to antiracism, within practice, research, and teaching.
  • Strong potential in scholarly activity (e.g. publications in scholarly journals, including collaborative, evaluation, and community-based research).
  • Demonstrated evidence of, or potential for excellent and equity-based teaching at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels.
  • Experience with, and/or commitment to advising/mentoring undergraduate and/or graduate students.

Job Description:

The English Department at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge invites applications for a tenure‐track position in English Education at the level of assistant professor to begin August 2023. Teaching responsibilities include courses in the teaching of English Language Arts in middle and high schools, as well as undergraduate and graduate courses in related fields. Of particular interest alongside a primary focus on English Education is expertise in supporting areas such as translingual or multilingual literacies, community‐based literacies, writing studies, rhetoric, or digital humanities. We are also looking for candidates who can successfully mentor and support future educators and can foster an inclusive environment inside and outside the classroom.

This is a full‐time, nine‐month position in the English Department with opportunities for collaboration with the School of Education. The position requires commitments to research, teaching, and service.

Teaching Expectations: The teaching load is 2/2 and consists of relevant undergraduate and graduate courses in English Education, such as our own ENGL 3203 (Introduction to English Secondary Education), ENGL3301 (Writing: Practice, Pedagogy, and History), ENGL4203 (Research and Writing in the Teaching of English), and ENGL 4204 (Capstone Seminar in English Education). The new hire will also have opportunities to teach other related courses in the Rhetoric, Writing and Culture concentration.

Research Expectations: A well-planned research and publishing agenda at the level of an R1 record is required for the position to meet the expectations for our tenure-track faculty.

Required Qualifications:  Ph.D. in English Education or closely related field. Applicants who are A.B.D. and will complete the Ph.D. by the time of appointment will be considered.

Preferred Qualifications: Applicants with successful teaching experience at the middle or high school level in English Language Arts, evidence of scholarly productivity, and a commitment to cross‐institutional partnerships are of particular interest.

Position description

The Department of Ecology, Evolution, and Marine Biology (EEMB) at the University of California, Santa Barbara invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position as an Assistant Teaching Professor, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2023. The Department is looking for exceptional individuals with expertise in biology capable of teaching introductory biology courses covering organismal, ecological, and evolutionary biology in EEMB. The appointment would include curriculum and program development activities in the Introductory Biology series for EEMB.

The Department of Ecology, Evolution and Marine Biology ( offers research and teaching programs that span biological scales from physiology and morphology of individuals, to the behavior and interactions of groups, to the functioning of ecosystems. EEMB administers four specialized EEMB majors and two general Biology majors.

Responsibilities will include teaching and teaching related tasks for lower and upper division undergraduate courses; mentorship of undergraduate, and potentially graduate students; professional and/or scholarly achievement and creative activity, particularly relating to instruction and pedagogy; and participation in university service. Additional responsibilities of this position may include coordination of active learning aspects of the EEMB Introductory Biology lecture series. Faculty in this title are members of the Academic Senate, with the same benefits and privileges as the professor track.
