Assistant Professor of Environmental Studies (Tenure-Track)

The Environmental Science & Environmental Studies Programs at Lafayette College invite applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level in Environmental Studies beginning July 1, 2023. We seek a colleague with a background in environmental humanities or humanist social sciences with teaching and research interests in environmental justice, philosophy, ethics, Indigenous studies, global ecologies, or a related field.

The successful applicant will join a growing multidisciplinary program that integrates faculty, students, and Office of Sustainability staff to explore environmental issues on campus and beyond. The Environmental Programs are interested in building a culturally diverse intellectual community. We hope this position will complement existing program strengths and broaden the curriculum in Environmental Studies.

The successful candidate will have: a commitment to undergraduate, liberal arts education; a strong interest in and/or experience working in collaborative interdisciplinary settings; a plan to develop an active research program that engages undergraduate students; and a demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion. Teaching responsibilities will include participation in teaching introductory and capstone courses, as well as an intermediate-level course in Environmental Justice and an advanced course in the candidate’s area of expertise. A Ph.D. is required before the position begins, and post-doctoral research, teaching, or mentoring experience is helpful.

Visiting Assistant Professor of Climate Change and Oceanography

The Department of Geology and Environmental Geosciences and the Environmental Programs at Lafayette College invite applications for a full-time sabbatical leave replacement for academic year 2020-2021 from candidates with expertise in oceanography and paleoclimatology. The successful applicant will teach a 3-3 load including an introductory-level course on climate change through Earth’s history, two intermediate-level environmental science/studies courses (one exploring the issue of anthropogenic climate change and one elective in the candidate’s area of expertise), an intermediate-level oceanography (with laboratory) course, and introductory-level geology laboratories. Preference will be given to candidates with a PhD and teaching experience; however, we will consider well-qualified ABD applicants.

Bryn Mawr College (PA) - TT Asst. Professor - Environmental Humanities and the Arts - PHONE INTERVIEW STAGE[]

The Bi-College Department of Environmental Studies at Bryn Mawr College and Haverford College invites applications for two full-time, beginning tenure-track Assistant Professor positions in Environmental Studies to begin August 1, 2018. One position is in Environmental Humanities and the Arts (broadly defined) and the other in Environmental Social Sciences (broadly defined). Successful candidates will be joining a newly established Bi-College Environmental Studies Department. Candidates must have completed all Ph.D. or other terminal degree requirements by the start date.

For the Environmental Humanist position, we seek candidates in environmental studies grounded in one or more of the humanities or arts, including philosophy, history, literary and/or visual studies, critical theory, cultural studies or the creative arts. For the Environmental Social Scientist position, we seek candidates in environmental studies grounded in one or more of the social sciences, including anthropology, human geography, economics, political science or sociology. For both positions, we seek individuals with the type of interdisciplinary graduate training common to Ph.D. programs in Environmental Studies, with a preference for candidates who hold their terminal degree in Environmental Studies.

Candidates must show demonstrated promise in research and a serious commitment to undergraduate teaching. The faculty members filling these positions will teach courses at all levels in our Environmental Studies curriculum, including our mid-level Environmental Service Learning course. For both positions, we welcome candidates whose scholarship and teaching address issues at the intersection of the environment and social justice, ethics, race, class, and gender. We are looking for candidates excited by the opportunity to contribute to the development and growth of our new Bi-College Environmental Studies Department. Prior experience teaching in an interdisciplinary Environmental Studies program is desirable.

Duke University (NC) — Postdoctoral Fellowship — Feminist Environmental Studies[]

The Duke University Program in Gender, Sexuality & Feminist Studies invites applications for a residential postdoctoral fellow in Feminist Environmental Studies for the 2018-2019 year. Through research, teaching, and service, the fellow will contribute to the overall work of the GSF Program. We seek candidates with interdisciplinary experience in Gender/Women’s/Sexuality Studies and a record of scholarship in environmental studies (broadly conceived). Postdoctoral fellows are expected to design and teach an undergraduate course in this field and to support the integration of feminist environmental studies through a variety of potential activities across the fellowship year (e.g., outreach to student groups, mentoring graduate students, participating on panels). The fellowship includes a stipend, health insurance, and shared office space. Applicants should have PhD in hand by July 1, 2018 and be no more than three years past the PhD. Each applicant is required to submit a C.V., three reference letters, and a writing sample. Applications should be submitted through AcademicJobsOnline.org by February 20, 2018.
