Baruch College, CUNY: Assistant Professor - Natural Sciences (Enviromental Studies)[]

The Department of Natural Sciences at Baruch College, City University of New York, invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor of Environmental Studies, starting September 1, 2023. The candidate is expected to establish an externally funded research program that will complement the collaborative, interdisciplinary environment at the College and provide research opportunities for undergraduate students. We are seeking a candidate with teaching experience and research in any area of ecology from genomics through ecosystem science. Bates College: Assistant Professor of Environmental Studies[]

The Program in Environmental Studies (ES) at Bates College seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor in environmental science to begin August 2023. The new faculty member will join ongoing cross-STEM initiatives in inclusive pedagogy and curricular renovation. We are especially interested in individuals trained in environmental science who are comfortable working with other natural scientists as well as with social scientists and humanists. A candidate’s field of study may feature but need not be limited to the following: marine, freshwater, polar, glacial, coastal, agricultural, arid, urban, grassland, or forested systems, or foci that could include earth surface processes, ecology, biodiversity, pollution, energy transitions, or public health. We are open to a broad range of methodological approaches and world views that may involve attention to spatial patterns, data visualization, modeling, field studies, traditional ecological knowledge, local ecological knowledge, or the dynamics of social-ecological systems.

Madeleine Haas Russell Postdoctoral Fellow in Climate Crisis, Risks, and Responses

The Brandeis University Latin American, Caribbean and Latinx Studies and Environmental Studies invites applications for the Madeleine Haas Russell Postdoctoral Fellow in Climate Crisis, Risks, and Responses. This is a two-year position, beginning Fall term 2023 and is subject to budgetary approval. The Fellow will be based in two undergraduate programs at Brandeis: Latin American, Caribbean and Latinx Studies and Environmental Studies, and will be expected to teach 2 courses per academic year and offer 1 academic lecture to the campus community during their time at Brandeis.

Candidates must have a PhD in a relevant discipline in the Humanities or Social Sciences by the beginning of the appointment.

We seek a scholar whose work focuses on the effects of climate change and/or responses to them, in Latin America, the Caribbean or for Latinx groups in the United States. Topics could include climate science, broadly construed, in Latin America and the Caribbean; environmental and climate justice in the region and in the diaspora; green/climate-extractivism; effects of climate risks, such as migration, political conflict, health, and poverty; risks and burdens of maladaptation; responses of indigenous and Afrodescendant groups to climate change and their active engagement in the processes of policymaking and development of climate action; and Latinax climate movements. We are open to multiple disciplines and quantitative, qualitative or mixed methodologies.

The Bi-College Department of Environmental Studies at Bryn Mawr College and Haverford College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position to begin August 1, 2023 in Environmental Social Sciences, broadly defined. Cleveland Museum of Natural History: William A. and Nancy R. Klamm Endowed Assistant Curator of Ornithology[]

We are launching a unique career development program that is designed to transition a finishing doctoral student into a permanent curatorial appointment at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History (CMNH). Specifically, the CMNH is offering a three-phase program for a successful candidate that provides: (1) a pre-doctoral fellowship to support dissertation development and doctoral defense; (2) a post-doctoral fellowship to support the development of a core research program and enhance experience in science communication; and (3) an assistant curatorial position at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History. A successful recruit for this program would begin with the CMNH as a finishing doctoral student and within 2-3 years obtain a permanent, endowed curatorial appointment on the scientific team as the William A. and Nancy R. Klamm Assistant Curator of Ornithology. The CMNH is implementing this novel recruitment model to support the career development of collections-based scientists by providing a career advancement pathway for future museum curators. We are specifically looking to recruit a collections-based researcher in the area of ornithology with a focus on, but not limited to, biodiversity, urban environments, evolution, migration, or environmental change. Must be within one or two years of dissertation defense and degree completion. We invite candidates who develop and use artificial intelligence (AI) to harness environmental, ecological, technical or social data to address complex environmental problems. We are particularly interested in scholars who are able to collaborate across disciplinary boundaries with colleagues from the natural sciences, social sciences, or the humanities. The Environmental Studies Department at Dartmouth seeks applicants for a full-time tenure-track assistant professorship in Interdisciplinary Ecosystem Science. Rowan University: Catalyst for Sustainability Fellow, School of Earth and Environment[]

Rowan University’s School of Earth & Environment is seeking a project-based Catalyst for Sustainability Fellow, who will propose and execute a project that advances solutions to the climate crisis and/or the biodiversity crisis. The successful candidate will hold a full-time, non-renewable, two-year faculty appointment in one of the school’s departments.

The proposed project should broadly fit into the foci of the school, which includes departments of Geology; Environmental Science (physical, ecological, and biological); Geography, Planning & Sustainability, and; Regenerative Food Systems. Projects may focus on research, innovation, application, or education. All projects should include a substantial component (up to 100%) of educational outreach and advocacy, and should align with the vision of the Catalysts for Sustainability initiative.

An advanced degree is required by September 1, 2023. We encourage applications from candidates that span the full range of disciplinary and interdisciplinary backgrounds. Relevant professional experience is a plus, as is a history of deep involvement in sustainability issues and advocacy.

In addition to executing on their proposed project, the successful candidate will be expected to teach courses and lead public-facing outreach efforts that address the humanistic, social science, and physical science dimensions of the global environmental crisis. Rowan University: Two Lecturer Positions in Regenerative Food Systems[]

The School of Earth & Environment seeks to hire two full-time Lecturers or Senior Lecturers with expertise in regenerative food systems to support the development of our forthcoming bachelor’s degree program in Regenerative Food Systems, which will focus on innovation, equity, and sustainability practices for growing, processing, and distributing responsibly produced, nutrient dense food. This is a non-tenure-track teaching position to begin July 1, 2023. Initial work will focus on the development and delivery of this new academic program, in addition to teaching core courses in the Regenerative Food Systems (RFS) curriculum.

As part of an experiential learning series, RFS students will prepare regenerative growing conditions through soil revitalization efforts for sustainably cultivated foods through land and greenhouse farming as well as harvesting, processing, and preparing/cooking foods.  These experiences will be part of a series of courses called the Food Village.  Also, RFS students will connect, engage, and contribute to the local/regional/national food system through a built and fostered, community network with established regenerative food systems partnerships

These positions will have responsibility for the following areas.

  • Food Village: effective delivery of the Food Village courses, regenerative food growing operations, and culinary preparations as part of the RFS student's experiential learning.
  • Outreach Center and Partnership: leading the establishment of the food systems partnerships, community outreach, and student engagement and externships in addition to teaching regional food systems field survey and food issues courses.These positions will be offered as a renewable, multi-year 12-month contract with benefits. Sewanee: The University of the South: Visiting Assistant Professor in the study of the Global Environment[]

The International and Global Studies program at Sewanee: The University of the South invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor position in the study of the Global Environment. The teaching load for this position is six courses per year. Villanova University: Visiting Assistant Teaching Professor of Environmental Science[]

The Department of Geography and the Environment at Villanova University invites applications for a one year Visiting Assistant Teaching Professor of Environmental Science teaching position starting in August 2023. The position is a 9-month academic appointment, and the incumbent will teach four courses per semester (4/4 teaching load). We seek a colleague to teach in the environmental sciences to support the growth of the Department’s graduate and undergraduate programs. Our new colleague will broaden the scope of expertise among the faculty, expand the teaching opportunities within the Department, and contribute to excellence across our programs. Our new colleague will be responsible for teaching the introductory environmental science lecture and laboratory two-semester sequence for undergraduate Environmental Science and Environmental Studies majors (one combined lecture with three laboratory sections each semester) with support from the Department’s environmental science laboratory manager and graduate assistants. A Ph.D. in environmental science or related field is required; ABD candidates will be considered. The introductory environmental science course sequence provides the academic foundation for the environmental majors in our program, and the successful candidate will clearly demonstrate the ability to teach these courses and provide evidence of teaching effectiveness. Scenario Planning Postdoctoral Fellow

JOB PURPOSE:  

This postdoc will work on an NSF EPSCoR-funded project called WY-ACT (Wyoming Anticipating Climate Transitions) project. This project seeks to help Wyoming stakeholders and communities anticipate and prepare for changing water availability. The 5-year grant will support the creation of integrative models showing the cascading effects of changed water availability through socio-environmental systems with implications for hydrology, ecology, economics, and dependent human communities. Core responsibilities will include co-designing scenario workshops with knowledge of current scenario planning methods, coordinating logistics for workshops in the three-basin region in northwest Wyoming, conducting interviews and focus groups, and overseeing qualitative and quantitative research. Salary will be competitive and includes a generous benefits package and support for travel. The appointment is for two years, renewable for further years subject to satisfactory performance. The position will be supervised by Dr. Corrine Noel Knapp and Dr. Mary L. Keller.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

This post-doc will be responsible for conducting pre-workshop interviews and focus groups, co-designing scenario workshops with knowledge of current scenario planning methods, coordinating logistics for workshops in the three-basin region in northwest Wyoming, and overseeing qualitative and quantitative research during and after workshops. The candidate will also collaborate with the Co-Production Postdoc and Co-Production Coordinator, develop a strong record of research excellence in the areas listed above, collaborate with interdisciplinary colleagues and work collaboratively with the PI.
