    • I applied for this position months ago and received no reply - not a word. Now they have posted the job AGAIN.
    • I just tried to find this listing on the website (http://jobs.savannahstate.edu) and there is no record of it. Does anyone know if they are actually hiring for this job? Or if they've already hired someone? [posted 9/17/14]
    • The job shows up if you go to the older version of their job application system-- I just followed the link/instructions in red about the new system on the main jobs page. [10/8/14]
    • For what it's worth, the search last year failed.
    • Know someone who was interviewed last year.  Search was a disjointed mess and everything took twice as long as expected (even by our standards). Great town, admin and faculty were very welcoming, compensation was good, said they were transitioning to more research focus, but lots of red flags at the time.
    • Do you know when they started contacting people for interviews last year by any chance?
    • I emailed the search chair asking about the status of the search, and he responded: "We have already selected three candidates for the campus interview and we are no longer accepting any application." (01/13)
    • Ah, well. Were any of y'all amongst the three who got selected? If so, would you mind sharing fields?

Saint Joseph's College (USA: IN) - [Non-TT][]

Note: position posted to wiki without link to job advert, several months(?) after original advert.  Position may now be closed. [30 Mar] AFII (talk) 23:11, March 29, 2015 (UTC)

Reposted? See here. (04/07/2015)

  • Full time, renewable 2-year position (with beneits) in European History with a pre-1600 emphasis, to begin 12 August 2015
  • Responsibilities include teaching a two-semester world civilization survey class plus seminars in European history.
  • This position involves teaching courses for the history department and the College’s general education Core Curriculum.  In that program responsibilities will include running discussion sections (17 students per section) each semester in Core 3 and Core 4, team-taught courses dealing with the development of Western civilization during the ancient, medieval, and renaissance periods. Core courses employ multiple disciplinary approaches across the liberal arts and the best candidate will be adept at and comfortable with this atmosphere.
  • The successful candidate will also have graduate courses in one of the following areas: China, India, the Middle East, or Latin America.
  • Candidates must have a Ph.D. or be ABD in History and be able to demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching.
  • Please send a letter of application, a CV, and 3 letters of reference to the office of the VPAA by email to swilson@saintjoe.edu.  Saint Joseph’s College is an EOE/AA institution.
  • Review begins immediately
    • Is this search still open?  Website says they were to begin reviewing applications in mid-December of 2014.
      • Still open. Original search failed. 4/9
  • Does anyone know if a religious affiliation is recommended at this school (Apparently it isn't required)?
    • "Saint Joseph's College encourages all its students to further their own spiritual growth and religious faith during their formative collegiate careers. Ours is a college in the Catholic and C.PP.S. traditions and thus abides by the principles of religious freedom, encouraging individuals and groups to practice their own faith as they choose."
  • "Impromptu" phone interview for the position (4/27/15)
  • On campus visit scheduled (4/28/15) x3
  • Offer made and accepted

Saint Xavier University (USA: IL)[]

  • Tenure track assistant professorship in European History, to begin Fall 2015
  • Area of specialization is open; however, the department desires a candidate who can contribute broadly to the departmental and university curriculum. Responsibilities include teaching the two-semester world history survey, a survey of modern Europe, and other courses in the candidate’s areas of expertise and interest
  • PhD must be in hand by start date
  • Saint Xavier University is the first Mercy college in the United Sates and is Chicago’s oldest Catholic university
  • Candidates should submit a cover letter addressing the position qualifications, a curriculum vita, a statement on teaching, evidence of effective teaching, an article-length writing sample, three letters of recommendation, and unofficial transcripts. Please send applications to Gail Crossley (crossley@sxu.edu), Office Manager.
  • Review begins: 1 Dec. 2014 and continues until position filled.
  • Nb Xavier is also advertising a post in Medieval European History. --Nope, not the same institution.
  • Any word about interviews yet? (12/22)
  • Nada (12/23) x2
  • Does anyone know if they are conducting AHA interviews in the first place? (12/24)
  • They are not listed on the AHA Job Center's handout. Xavier in Cincinnati *is* listed, but not SAINT Xavier. (12/24)
  • I would be surprised if this position was not actually opened up to hire their current lecturer, a Russianist (1/2/15)
  • This situation is more complicated. The post was created after the previous lecturer left for a TT job and before the current lecturer was hired.
  • Any news on this job?
  • Still nothing here (1/21). Anyone had any communication from them?
  • My emails requesting an update on the search went unanswered by the Office Manager and the Dept. Chair. (x3)
  • Still reviewing applications as of 2/3
  • Any word on this one?
  • Invitation for phone interview 2/21
  • Rejection email, says they've already made the hire 3/4 (x2)
  • Upon further snooping, found out that although some of the rejection emails state that "we have completed our search and selected another candidate for the position," they have since rescinded at least one rejection, are still planning campus visits (maybe?), and have not yet made an offer. Or maybe they have? What is going on here? And since when is it appropriate to misrepresent the search process to candidates?
  • I received a rejection email today (3/5), sent to "undisclosed recipients." As above, it says "we have completed our search adn selectd another candidate for the position." If they have not actually made an offer to someone yet, this is extremely inappropriate!
  • Further confusion since the rejection email I received (3/4) was addressed to someone else. Then it was recalled.
  • I never received an email one way or the other. 3/6 x2
  • The e-mail they sent me did not even bother to address me at all.
  • I still haven't heard a thing.  How odd. 3/13
  • A friend who had a phone interview has now been invited for a campus visit. Sounds like they definitely did not hire someone yet, but they are in the final stages. 3/14
  • The most unprofessional search ever? At least in the running for that award. Still betting the job will go to their current lecturer.
  • They made their hire. It was not the current lecturer. 4/20

  • Apply at: https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/4138
  • Review of applications will begin 15 Oct. 2014, and continue until the positions are filled.
  • Have any Europeanists received responses one way or another?
  • Short answer is no. Wrote the chair, he promised invites by this week at the very latest.
  • December 26: Have any Europeanists or Atlanticists heard anything yet? By "this week" meaning? The AHA begins in less than a week!
  • AHA invitations for the Atlantic position went out in November, same time as the Islamic World ones.
  • 12/15 - On the World/Global page, it seems there were requests for AHA interviews for Islamic World. Does it seem right to read the ad such that if they are interviewing in Islamic History, then they have decided not to interview in Atlantic world or European Intellectual History? So if we applied in one of those fields, then, oh well? (my original sense of the ad had been that they were actually possibly looking for people in all three fields . . . or most likely, just not me! : ) )
  • 12/29 Have Europeanists heard anything? Surely invites must have gone out by now and it's time to move on, no?
  • 1/7/2015: Europeanist here--heard nothing, although I contacted NUS mid-December and was told AHA invites would be sent out in late December. Strange that none of the Europe applicants have heard a thing.
  • 1/22/2015: Last ditch call--Europe people heard anything? Not that it matters, really. NUS-Yale is looking so sloppy with this "search" that I would never actually work there.
  • 4/22/2015: Did the search fail? Does anyone know if they've even hired anyone?
  • The hysterics on this wiki are baffling. Why do you presume that every single person on the job market are posting their status here? If something doesn't get posted to the wiki, people just assume that it didn't happen and that search committees are somehow "sloppy" and "incompetent." The level of entitlement is astonishing. FYI Yale-NUS already interviewed several Europeanists at the AHA and, as far as I know, have extended campus invitations.
  • Actually, these alleged "hysterics" have nothing to do with "entitlement," and everything to do with the common decency and professionalism that any reasonable person ought to expect from a potential employer: if there is anything "astonishing" here, it is how sorely lacking these two qualities are on the part of most search committees. How hard would it be to simply send a short rejection email to applicants not selected for interviews informing them that there files are no longer active and/or "remain active but are not likely to be further considered"? (there, HR, I've provided you with some boilerplate rhetoric.) Several other searches I have applied to both this year and in the past have done this. Whatever disappointment I might have temporarily felt at not being selected was mitigated by my appreciation for the professionalism by which those committees conducted themselves in acknowledging that they had considered my file even if they did not elect to continue to pursue my application. And no - I don't feel 'entitled' to such an acknowledgement. I just would hope that the professionalism foundational to life in the academy would also be extended to those seeking to join it.

  • 11/4 - Semi-finalists contacted for mid-November video interview (x 2)
  • 11/19-Finalists contacted for campus visit (11/20)
  • Third rejection email received; they apparently want to make it clear I have been thoroughly rejected and have no shot at the position. (2/20/15) x2
  • I too received multiple rejection notices. A common complaint on this forum is the opposite: candidates hearing nothing from the committee until the hire is announced, if ever. While I appreciate the effort to notify candidates, the frequent occurence of this overkill (often an email from the chair, one from the department , and sometimes an interfolio message) only makes the process more disheartening.
    • Its also how they're spaced out; first shortly after the interview, that I will not be invited to campus.  Then about a month later, reminding me around Christmas time that yes, I was rejected from that job.  And now some 3-4 months later, shortly after Valentine's Day, as if to say hey, we were thinking of you, and by the way we still don't want you to come work for us, and thought you might have forgotten.

  • The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to teaching on both the undergraduate and graduate (MA) levels and evidence of productivity in scholarly research and publication.
  • Teaching responsibilities include a lower-division World History to 1500 survey and two upper-division courses in area of specialization each semester.

Cotati Avenue, Rohnert Park, CA  94028 or electronically to historysearch@sonoma.edu.
  • Deadline: 19 Nov. 2014
  • Has anyone heard anything yet?
  • Files were still being reviewed as of 12/12.
  • Surely interview requests have gone out at this point, right?
  • I've been operating on that assumption, though I'd surely love to hear otherwise.
  • Applications being reviewed into January 2015 (email reply from chair, 12/22)
  • Good to know. May I ask if this was an unsolicited email from the chair, or a response to an inquiry?
  • Surely they're interviewing by now, right?
  • Semester just started two days ago, so they may still be getting back into the swing of things. But you'd expect some movement at this point, yes.
  • I applied, haven't heard anything back yet at all.  x3
  • I suspect that they received many more applications than expected. Besides the historians of Early Modern and Medieval Europe, the ad likely drew people from classics/ancient history and ancient Near Eastern history.
  • Maybe, but its been well over two months since the deadline at this point. Probably three possibilities: 1) search delayed by internal or external factors 2) search cancelled 3) people who don't use or don't update wiki have been contacted
  • 2/4 - email from search chair says they are bringing candidates to campus in the next few weeks.
  • Was this a mass email or response to a query?
  • Response to query.
  • Did it indicate whether invitees have already been notified? Or if preliminary interviews have already taken place?
  • Any news? This search has been characterized by deafening radio silence.
    • Had a search in the past that was similar, no news good or bad until in April suddenly invited to campus with no preliminary interview, had the job offer by May.  Different search committees go about the process differently, compounded by the requirements of HR, in the case of this job probably the CSU teacher's union as well.  At this stage, no news is still good news, still means files are being considered, and even if they have narrowed the search down to a specific list for interviews or even campus visits, they're not going to reject candidates outright until they're sure of their selection, in fact they might not be able to send out rejection emails until an offer has been accepted.
  • Rejection email, 3/4. (x7)
    • Four and a half months of silence, for a boiler-plate rejection notice.  Rather disappointing.

Kershaw, Chair, Search Committee, pjk3p@virginia.edu.
  • Review begins 5 Dec. 2014
  • Same position advertised two years ago; offers were made but declined so search failed. Better luck this time?
    • From last time: "Salary actually wasn't too bad ($70K); offer declined for better one elsewhere. Bigger problems had to do with the teaching load/mix; restricted opportunities for grad teaching and mentoring; some depts. were better/worse than others (one dept. didn't even allow its faculty to teach a grad. level class more than once every three years). Worryingly TA support didn't seem to be gauranteed despite the large class sizes, some profs. complained they had to do all the grading for their large surveys classes themselves."
    • Any news on this? (19 Dec)
      • settle down. it's only been two weeks. it takes a while to go through 200 applications and rationalize hiring a Princeton ABD.

  • Sent in application on Sept. 30. I heard they are keeping last year's applications active, but definitely looking for newly minted PhDs.
    • They sent an email to all of last year's applicants, telling us not to update our materials. That says to me they're not interested in any of us, they only want shiny new PhDs.
    • (10/30), truly though, all earned PhDs acquire a bit of tarnishing in the getting.
    • Re: above: I don't know who you are, but I love you.
  • [10 November] "No thanks" e-mail received. x3 (a really nice note too.  if all search committees were this courteous, this process would be much less painful.)

  • The last of the three job talks took place this past week.
  • Did they make an offer?

As was clearly stated in the job posting.
  • Official rejection email. 1/26 (x3)
  • Has anyone actually recieved an interview request? No official rejection here, but nothing else either...

University of Arkansas-Little Rock (USA: AR) - Medieval European History[]

  • Readvertised: Tenure track assistant professor (R97164) in Medieval European HIstory with a starting date of August 17, 2015.
  • Teaching responsibilities include World Civilization history survey courses, upper level and graduate courses, and MA thesis supervision. An active research agenda that will lead to publications is required. Service is expected at department, college and university levels, along with community engagement

  • Application materials must be submitted through the online application system. Additional information about this position and application requirements are available under the Jobs link on the Human Resources' website at http://ualr.edu/humanresources/
  • Deadline: 2/20/15 per job listing on the UALR HR site.
  • Search may be canceled: the ad for this job that was posted on Higher Ed Jobs on 10/7/2014 subsequently was removed, and the job is not listed on the UA-LR HR site under that or any other title or position number. I will check with them on Monday to be sure.
  • Job ad was withdrawn due to mistakes made in its construction. The position should be readvertised in the next week or two. [posted 10/13/14]
    • Halloween and we're still waiting for that job ad. Maybe it's cancelled?
    • still nothing, or am I missing something?
  • I called the department on 11/13 and was told that the job likely would be readvertised. Possibly emailing the chair would bring a definitive answer, but because I'll be an applicant if the job is reposted, I don't want to do that.
    • paranoid much?
      • says the guy posting on an anonymous wiki...
      • I'm happy to post it on your blog; just make sure that the SC chair doesn't find it.
    • Folks, unless it's directly related to this search, this really should be taken to the Talk page or elsewhere. --Goldenwest (talk) 19:25, November 19, 2014 (UTC)
  • 12/30: The department hopes to "readvertise the position early in the new year" per email communication with the chair.
  • The position was readvertised on 1/14/2015. Good luck, folks!
  • 2/12: email request for letters of recommendation (x3)
  • 2/13: Heads up for ABD applicants: their application system asks you if you have PhD in hand after you have uploaded all your materials (with a lot of legalese about penalties if questions are answered untruthfully). If you answer "no", it will automatically reject your application with no recourse. Per e-mail with the department chair, they will consider ABD applicants, but HR puts that question in regardless. His instructions are to take the question as intended to mean, "Will you have PhD in hand by the start of the appointment?" I have found out the hard way that the HR department means business on this; I forwarded the chair's e-mail to them, and their reply was hard and fast: you answered truthfully that you do not meet the minimum requirements, you confirmed that you answered truthfully, and our procedures do not allow for revision of answers for purposes of meeting minimum requirements. So, if you're an ABD applicant who expects to be done by the appointment date, answer "yes".
  • Well that's charming. So if we've already made this mistake we're just out of luck?
  • I thought the same thing.  I already applied, got rejected by HR, and emailed HR.  Not sure if it's worth applying again, as HR already knows I applied and am ABD.
  • Original poster on this issue here -- yes, per HR, if we've already made this mistake we're just out of luck. The response to the chair's e-mail clarifying the point was just to reiterate the policy, which means they know it's stupid but this is the decision somebody made. I wonder if it might be worth re-applying under a different e-mail address, but I also wonder if it's worth it if this is the culture of the institution.
  • I applied under a different email address and it went through. I don't know about the culture of the institution, but the two faculty members with whom I had contact were pleasant and helpful.
  • Request for letters of rec (2/14) - I'm not sure whether or not this is an automatic email for everyone not automatically eliminated by the HR website.
  • Any news?
  • Skype interviews (3/16-18)

    • (12/17) I'm curious: what are the odds of succeeding, or at least getting an interview, with a PhD from a U.S. school?  I know there are significant differences between the U.S. and British higher education systems; do the Brits tend to prefer their own (post)grads as a better fit for the academic culture there?  And on a more practical level, is there a requirement that British citizens receive preference in hiring?  Thanks.
    • I've answered this question on the Talk:European_History_2014-15 page, as it's relevant to multiple postings. AFII (talk) 16:27, December 17, 2014 (UTC)

    • Contacted for a phone interview 2/11 (x3)
    • Rejection letter 2/23
    • Contacted for on-campus interview 2/23
      • Do you mind sharing when the campus visits are supposed to take place? Also, is there a sense of the number of candidates invited?
      • Visits from late March through April.  Sounds like perhaps three or four candidates.
      • Does anyone have any updates on the decision timeline for this position, or know if an offer has been made?
      • I was one of the candidates invited to a campus visit.  By now, all four candidates should have visited and if an offer has not yet been made, I expect, based on what I was told that it will be made by the end of this week.
      • Has anyone heard anything more on this yet, one way or the other? I was also one of the finalists, and am assuming that an offer must have been made by now based on the timeline I was given (late April or very early May), but have not heard anything more.
      • As a finalist, I received a very polite rejection email about half an hour ago (5/11). - Same here, from earlier poster - agreed about the classy rejection letter.
      • Word on the street is that this position has been filled with an inside candidate.

    • Invited for campus visit/job talk 1/12
    • Offer made and accepted
    • Rejection email received 4/22/15. Not sure why they bothered sending a rejection this late.
      • Agreed.  Especially because it was one of the most sterile and generic rejections I've recieved.  "Our records indicate that you applied for the following position..."
      • Considering that they sent me a rejection today when I withdrew from the search weeks ago, I doubt they put much effort into seeing what their records *did* indicate.

University of Mississippi (USA:MS)[]

Box 1848, University, MS 38677-1848
  • Review begins immediately [posted 10 May 2015] and continues until position filled.
  • The department has a late medievalist VAP who has been there for a while.  Is this a likely inside hire?
    • That's what I'm assuming, especially since it was posted so late, and she just got her PhD (I think). However, I'm applying anyway. *shrug*
    • I can't access the online application. Has anyone else had this problem?
    • I had a message from the Administrative co-ordinator telling me that the search had closed 14/05/2015. An open search for four days????
    • In addition to the fact that the job has disappeared from the HR website, when it was listed on H-Net, it wasn't categorized under "medieval history" (no category at all was assigned, so it wound up buried at the bottom), AND the few days the job was open *just happened* to coincide with the International Congress on Medieval Studies, when many medievalists (myself included) were away from their offices, otherwise occupied, and thus unable to apply. Sure, inside hires happen, but it is only appropriate for search committees to provide the opportunity for other candidates to give the inside candidate some real competition. I don't blame the VAP for this, and we shouldn't hold it against her, but if this is the kind of appallingly unprofessional BS that goes on in that department, I hope for her sake that she finds a way out of there soon.
    • Jeez. I've been on the job market a long time, and I've never, ever seen inside-hire shenanigans this bad. FOR SHAME, OLE MISS. FOR SHAME.
    • These criticisms of the department are myopic and unfair. In no way are the department's actions here "appallingly unprofessional" or shameful. Yes, this was almost certainly an inside hire. But what, exactly, is wrong with that? The VAP in question was likely very highly qualified, a good departmental citizen, and a proven teacher. The department has chosen to reward that -- and rightfully so. The department also probably had to "open the search" due to university HR regulations, and so basically had no choice but to carry out the search in this fashion if they wanted to reward the VAP's service. If the profession is committed to limiting "adjunctification," then "inside hires" like this should be celebrated and not demonized. (To put it another way: how many of you who are complaining about "shenanigans" would also have complained had the job gone instead, for example, to a fifth-year ABD from Yale?)
    • "The department also probably had to "open the search" due to university HR regulations, and so basically had no choice but to carry out the search in this fashion". There's a reason for those HR regulations: to ensure that the best candidate is hired for the job. Now, if they had held the search open for a month, and still hired the VAP, that would be acceptable, because it would have implied that the search committee did actually make an effort to confirm that the VAP was the best candidate. Instead, the way this search has been run implies that they (rather nakedly) made the effort to ensure that the VAP was the ONLY candidate. I've been an internal candidate, very highly qualified, a good departmental citizen, and a proven teacher; it only got me as far as a preliminary interview, because the committee did its due diligence, found other people who were better than I, and hired one of them. And they were right to do so.

Xavier University (USA: OH)[]

  • Xavier University, a Catholic university in the Jesuit tradition, invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position in the Department of History to begin Fall 2015. Ph.D. by August 2015 preferred.
  • Area of specialization within the history of medieval Europe is open.
  • Preliminary interviews will be conducted at the AHA annual meeting.

  • For information regarding the Department of History, please refer to our website at www.xavier.edu/history.
  • To ensure consideration, interested candidates should submit an application letter, curriculum vitae, three letters of recommendation, and unofficial graduate transcripts ... at http://apply.interfolio.com/26469.
  • Deadline: 3 Nov. 2014
  • It looks like they already have a medievalist. Anybody know why they want another? Is he leaving?
  • My sense is the present medievalist looks busy with administrative duties, and might have aspirations there; the thing to note here is that they have a visiting professor whose specialty is in medieval Europe--going to be hard to wrestle this one away
  • (From SC member): The current tenured medievalist is indeed associate dean and his primary responsibilites are not in the history department.  Yes, there is a VAP in medieval Europe but this is not an inside search; all applications are receiving full consideration.
  • Request for AHA Interview (11/25/2014) (x2)F
  • Official notification of not making the cut (email) x3
  • Campus visits scheduled for late Jan.
  • Offer made and accepted.

  • Nominal teaching load of 4-4: the successful candidate will teach, in addition to upper-division courses specific to the candidates area of research interest, the Departments World History surveys and other first-year and second-year courses in the University's liberal learning core as assigned by the department chair.
  • The Ph.D. in History or a closely related field is required for appointment at the rank of Lecturer. Individuals who are ABD and will not hold the Ph.D. by the time of appointment and/or possess a masters degree in a related field may be considered for appointment at the rank of Instructor.

Or mlmoody@cnu.edu
  • Review  begins: 14 Nov. 2014
    • Usual to see a non-TT position advertised so early. Any rumors on what they're thinking?
  • Interviewing (prearranged only) at AHA per AHA's Job Center Handout: http://www.historians.org/Documents/Annual/2015/15JC_Handout.pdf
  • request for AHA interview [12/9] (x5)
  • I am one of the people that was contacted for the AHA. I thought I'd note that the contact came by phone rather than email.
  • Request for campus visit [1/9]
  • Any news on this one? I was an AHA interviewee and have heard absolutely nothing.

Davidson College (USA: NC) - Medieval/Early Modern European History and Digital Studies[]

  • Tenure-track assistant professor of History and Digital Studies , with a specialization in Medieval or Early Modern European History.
  • Teaching Load: 5 courses/year (reduced to four courses in the first year) "shared between the History Department and the Digital Studies Program."
  • The ideal candidate will have teaching and research experience in Medieval, Renaissance, Reformation, and/or Early Modern European History and will have completed a Ph.D. in History (or a History-related discipline) by August 1, 2015.
  • In addition, the ideal candidate's teaching and research will integrate the theories and methods of the Digital Humanities (for example, digital mapping, data visualization, text mining, agent-based modeling, gaming and simulations, 3D printing, and online archives and exhibits).
  • Link to Apply: http://www.Click2Apply.net/3tk2y34
  • Inquiries may be directed to Dr. John Wertheimer, Chair, History Department, at jowertheimer@davidson.edu.
  • Deadline: 1 Nov. 2014
  • Anyone heard any rumors as to what they're looking for? It looks like they already have a medievalist, and a department this size probably doesn't need two.
  • IIRC, the website said they had a Mellon grant to expand the digital studies program.  So I'd guess they need a digital studies person and decided they'd rather have a medieval/early modern one than add another modernist to the dept.
  • The current medievalist is retiring next year; this position presumably replaces him and at the same time adds a digital humanities element to the college.
  • Invitation for AHA interview (11/25) x2
  • Official notification of not making the cut. Very considerate of them to actually send out notices. x2
  • The AHA interviewing faculty were wonderful people; regardless of the outcome, I'm excited that whomever secures the position will have great colleagues
  • Invitation for campus interview (1/15)
    • Congratulations! (I didn't make the cut after the AHA)
    • Second the congratulations, but add to the congratulator: how do you know you did not make the cut? I've heard nothing at all.
      • Reply: It's an assumption based on they told us (interviewees) that they were making decisions last week.  We may yet be contacted, I don't think I made it into the top three for campus interviews because of the lack of news. Cheers!
      • Thank you - I was working on the same assumption, just wanted to know if other people had received a call or email about not making the cut.
    • Offer made and accepted.

  • (H-net ad indicates 1 Dec. as hard deadline.)
  • What do you think is meant by "teaching statement/research agenda"? Two separate documents, either/or, or one that combines both?
  • To above: It's anyone's gues what they "meant," but know that committees are often most impressed by candidates who show trajectory of teaching and research agendas, and especially interconnectedness between the two.
  • It's the document where you demonstrate that you can cover three, preferably four continents, in your teaching and you are willing and able to maintain a world-class research agenda with a subpar library and an eye-watering pay scale.
  • Have they short-listed?
  • This strikes me as kind of a late posting. I didn't see it when I was applying to other jobs at the beginning of this cycle. I just submitted my application yesterday. Is there any reason to think that it is too late to apply?
  • Contacted for AHA interview (12/5)
  • Congratulations! May I ask when you applied?
  • Early November - about a week after the ad appeared.
  • Has anyone else been contacted about an AHA interview?
  • I received the kindest rejection email of all time today (12/23) from a member of the search committee. Whoever gets this job will be very lucky. (x5)
  • Interviewee here: just received an incredibly kind, compassionate, and professional e-mail informing me I will not be invited to campus.  I'd expect nothing less of this committee, which has been extremely classy throughout the search, and agree with the previous posters.  Good luck to everyone on campus!

  • Preferred Qualifications: Specialization in Central or Western Europe, including the British Isles. The ability to teach introductory-level surveys of Western Civilization and World History as well as upper- and graduate-level courses in area of specialization. • Screening of applicants will begin on 15 Oct. 2014, and continue until the position is filled.
  • Is this a new line or a replacement?
  • Request for phone interview 10/31 (x1)
  • Rejection email 11/6. (I did not have a phone interview and am an outlier on their desired subfield.) (x3)
  • Also received rejection email 11/6 my specialty is Britain and British Empire (19th c)
  • So,have they short-listed and interviewed? I haven't received anything at all - no rejection email, no request for phone interview.
    • x4. Quite puzzling. (Wondering if they're working in batches, or something?) <-That would make sense.
  • Have any candidates interviewed by phone heard anything yet? [11/25]
  • On campus interview scheduled
  • Is it normal to hear absolutely nothing, when others have had phone interview requests and on campus visit requests and others have been rejected? Are they interviewing at AHA?
    • Unfortunately, it is normal to hear nothing while a search progresses. If they have selected candidates for on-campus interviews before AHA, then I can't imagine a situation in which they would back things up and interview at AHA.
  • I just got a rejection for this one... 6 months later (4/10)
  • Just got an unprofessional & automated rejection letter - I had almost forgotten I'd applied - it's been so long! (4/9)

Northwestern University (USA: IL) - (excl. Britain & France)[]

  • tenure track assistant professorship in Early Modern European History, 1500-1800, not including historians who work exclusively on Britain or France, to begin September 2015
  • Candidates interested in transnational history are encouraged to apply
  • A letter of application, CV, writing sample (no longer than an article or dissertation chapter), and three letters of recommendation (sent separately) must be submitted electronically via the link on our departmental website at http://www.history.northwestern.edu/
  • Deadline: 15 Oct. 2014.
  • NB: This post was advertised last year but failed as far as I know (as of late March 2014 all campus visit candidates had been rejected). The wording has changed slightly in terms of now excluding anyone who works 'exclusively on Britain or France', but last year's finalists did not work exclusively on these, either.
  • Did anybody get a response yet? Did they start interviewing?
  • Northwestern doesn't usually do interviews--they just ask for further materials and then invite people to campus.
  • I was asked for further material. But a colleague told me it is just a game. They have a preferred candidate.
  • What geographic field were they actually looking for?
  • I have it on good authority that no one has been asked for further materials yet. I guess I shouldn't be shocked that someone would post something untrue on an anonymous wiki, but I'm still surprised.
  • Any news?
  • Request for additional materials Nov 17 X2
  • Phone call with chair of search committee. They have a preferred candidate. I am not her. Would I like to proceed?
  •               I read this as bad English for "They offered me an interview, but you guys are saying there is a preferred candidate. Should I proceed? Is it worth it?" They are asking us for advice, not spreading disinformation. It's pretty goddamn unlikely that they would call anyone and say they had a preferred candidate. Relax, people. Jesus. And YES, you should proceed.
  • I don't think I understand: the chair called you, told you that they have a preferred candidate, that you are not the preferred candidate, and asked you if you would like to proceed anyway (i.e. have an on-campus interview knowing that they have a preferred candidate that isn't you)? Wow!
  • The penultimate post is disinformation.  There was no phone call and there is no preferred candidate.
  • Sounds like disinformation to me. On the other hand, they did fail their search last year. Maybe there is disagreement on the committee.
  • So can anyone confirm that the search has indeed progressed: that people have been contacted and asked for additional materials; have been invited for long-list/skype interviews; have been invited for campus interviews; received a rejection letter. Anything?
  • I heard that the committee is now reading additional materials (dissertations and book manuscripts).
  • Official rejection email (12/16), saying that they have now selected finalists, but haven't made an offer yet (x3).
  • Rejection e-mail said they received 102 applications.
  • So has anyone recieved an interview request yet? I was asked for more materials and didn't recieve a rejection email, but haven't heard anything since the materials request.
  • Any word on how this is moving forward post AHA?
  • Job talks are happening this month (Jan).
  • So I guess that means the people who're doing them know by now, eh? I wrote to the admin last week and he said the committee was still deliberating. Well, congrats to the finalists!
  • Polite rejection email informing that the position has been offered to another candidate (1/26)
  • I heard that [someone at St Andrews] was offered this job. Any confirmation there?
    • Hi there; just a reminder not to post personal information on this board (including gossip/rumours about specific people) unless you have their permission - in line with the wiki's T&C relating to personal data. AFII (talk) 14:44, January 30, 2015 (UTC)

  • The appointed Enhanced Early Career Lecturer will be expected to focus on Europe, but with a markedly outward-facing approach in line with our departmental interests and strengths. University of British Columbia (CAN: BC)[]

  • Tenure track assistant professorship in the history of early modern Europe, expected start date 1 July 2015
  • The department is interested in candidates who focus on the history of western or central Europe during the period 1450-1700. All applications are welcome, but preference will be given to scholars whose work complements and expands on the department’s existing strengths.
  • Candidates must possess a Ph.D. (or provide solid indication of imminent completion), and they should provide evidence of excellence in research, as demonstrated by their published contributions or by potential contributions to the scholarship of their field.
  • Teaching Load: 12-credits (2/2) " a strong commitment to teaching excellence at the undergraduate as well as graduate level also is required. In addition to offering courses within his or her area of specialization, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to the university’s interdisciplinary undergraduate program teaching lower division courses in European History, 1500 to the present and/or the global history of the period of 1500-1900. For further information on the academic programs of the UBC history department, candidates should visit the departmental website, http://www.history.ubc.ca, as well as its page on “Research Clusters,” http://www.history.ubc.ca/clusters/thematic."
  • UBC hires on the basis of merit and is strongly committed to employment equity and diversity within its community. We especially welcome applications from visible minority group members, women, aboriginal persons, persons with disabilities, persons of minority sexual orientations and gender identities, and others with the skills and knowledge to engage productively with diverse communities. We encourage all qualified persons to apply; however, Canadians and permanent residents of Canada will be given priority.
  • Applicants must apply only through the UBC faculty careers website, http://www.facultycareers.ubc.ca/18834
  • The closing date for the receipt of applications is 15 Oct 2014.
    • I contacted the chair of the search committee about the clumsy wording of the job posting, which suggested that people with "visible" disabilities were encouraged to apply. He replied that Canadian law does not provide for "affirmative action" requirements in hiring. He suggested that the University of British Columbia only hires the most qualified candidates. No one would ever question that UBC only hires the best candidates. However, disabled people - like myself - do not require "affirmative action" laws to secure employment as academics. UBC only hires the best candidates, unless they are Canadian, in which case all other considerations are cast aside.
  • 4 November 2014 - Search has been POSTPONED for one year due to budgetary restrictions.  They plan to advertise this position again in the summer with a start date of July 1, 2016.
  • How did you hear about the postponement?
    • It was announced in an email to applicants on 11/4.
  • The chair also said that he "will be writing individually to each applicant." I haven't yet received such an email. Anyone know what this is about?
  • No clue. I don't understand why they asked for so many documents. It's a lot for the applicants and for the committee (though in this case, I doubt the applications were opened by the committee, who likely knew or suspected that the search would not happen).
  • It is just plain unprorfessional and rude.
  • I agree with above, also ridiculous that the tone was "no need to reapply next year," as if to confirm the committee has all the power over us, which they do...so I guess we'll sit here and twiddle our thumbs in the meantime, waiting for 12 months on the off chance we'll be contacted. This search cancellation letter would be another reason I walk away from academia.
  • The chair sure as h#ll hasn't contacted me individually. UBC's hiring process is a joke. How can a Department begin a search w/o knowing how much money they have?
    • It happens. Those higher up in the administration could say "probably, depending on what our government funding turns out to be, so go ahead and start looking". The department, acting in good faith, hopes not to get screwed, and may hope that if they identify a stellar candidate fast enough, they may be able to convince the administration to let them hire and find money somewhere in the budget. They may also be up against other departments in the same position playing the same game, and afraid that they will lose the line if someone else succeeds in this strategy first.
  • When I got the cancellation email, I read "no need to reapply" as an attempt to reassure us that we wouldn't need to go through the whole process again from scratch and could just reactivate our applications, if we wanted, with any updates.

  • Did anyone figure out how to submit reference letters? Didn't seem to be a clear option to do so through the online app...
    • I sent them via Interfolio to the email address (facultyrecruithss@csi.cuny.edu) listed in the job ad, mentioning Job ID# 11344 in the subject line. Fingers crossed that it worked!
    • yes, that was the email address to send them to. I think I wrote them at that address to find out how to submit as my people were going to write directly and that's what I was told. I also sent most of my attachments to that address as the website was, for me, pretty much a disaster. But hey, it's a beautiful ferry ride...
  • Invitation to interview at AHA (12/8) X3
  • Invitation to Skype interview (12/8)--odd since it seems that everyone else was invited to AHA, but hey, it's an interview!
  • Skype invite as well - also struck me as odd, but much appreciated!
  • any ideas on salary / teaching load?
  • Skype interview and then...nothing. Anyone heard anything?
  • The timeline they gave me was that they were trying to figure out their shortlist by the end of January/ early February for campus invitations, so I think we're still in the waiting period. (x2)
  • The post-interview timeline they gave me for a decision about the next step was February or even March (which I thought seemed pretty late). It was just as I was leaving and feeling a tad drained by the day so I may have misheard but I do recall thinking the timing was a little drawn out... Anyway, not heard a word (1/24)
  • I too was told Feb/early March for in-campus interviews at the end of my AHA interview. I think that this search might be taking a bit longer for a couple of reasons: First, CUNY-SI's semester doesn't start until January 28. Second, the department is concurrently running a search for a historian of the British Empire (see elsewhere on this page).
  • Rejection rec'd (indicating job talks have occurred and offer made/accepted) 3/6) x2

  • Just curious -- has anyone heard anything about this one way or another? I'd imagine they must have a short list already, no?  (6 April)
  • Yes, has anyone heard anything?  (23 April)
    • There were apparently Skype interviews and on-campus interviews, and the department has offered the position to someone (according to an email from the search chair).
    • yes I got this email today too (11 May)

  • sigh* -- Good luck to you both.

College of Wooster (USA:OH) - Modern Europe (Non-TT;VAP)[]

  • One-year visiting assistant professorship in modern European history beginning August 2015
  • open to all fields of modern European history
  • "The successful candidate will teach survey courses in European history as well as topical courses in her/his field of expertise. She/he will also supervise undergraduate research in the Independent Study Program, the College’s program of faculty-mentored undergraduate research."
  • Ph.D. preferred; advanced ABD will be considered

Florida Gulf Coast University (USA: FL) - Modern Europe (excl. Germany; Full-Time, Non-TT)[]

  • 9-month multi-year appointment in Modern European HIstory, to begin Aug 2015
  • 3-3 teaching load
  • Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. in History, specializing in Modern Europe (with the exception of 20th century Germany), from a regionally accredited institution or equivalent accreditation. Consistent record of active scholarship in order to be in compliance with FGCU graduate certification requirements.
  • ABD will be considered if degree is conferred by August 7, 2015. If successful candidate is ABD, appointment will be made at a Lecturer level on a fixed contract.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Experience teaching a wide-range of students and must provide evidence of teaching effectiveness. Ability to teach courses in Early Modern Europe.
  • Deadline: 20 Nov. 2014
    • I'm having trouble figuring out if the want actual references or just a list of 5 references. Any ideas?
    • Shoot them an email - couldn't hurt
  • 8The job posting suggests that a listing of five references is necessary, but the application website for FGCU prompts the applicant to upload both a listing of references and letters of reference. Very confusing
    • It is a list of references. The committee will contact them prior to an invitation for an on-campus visit
    • Thanks for the information!
  • What is a "Statement of experience with students in research or scholarship as it fits discipline"?
  • I am not sure that anyone has a good answer for that question. It is attached to every job advert at FGCU. I think it is an institutional requirement. It certainly is not required at other Florida public schools.
    • I would guess that it means to talk about how you include undergraduates in your research and/or how you support their own research.
    • Any news on this one?  I have heard the department has a very specific definition of "modern Europe."
    • What have you heard? Do they define it as only twentieth century?
    • I called HR late last week. The committee is in the process of scheduling Skype interviews for Jan. Based on what I was told, it seems that in fact they took "modern Europe" broadly so long as the approach/field did not overlap with current faculty.
    • Can anyone kindly confirm that they have indeed been contacted for a Skype interview?
    • Request for Skype interview (12/17)
  • Was the request via e-mail or phone?
  • Invitation (via phone call) for Skype interview in January (12/17) x2
  • Does anyone know if they've already invited people to campus?
  • Yes, they invited 4 candidates to campus. I believe the last of them will be there this week. (2/2)
  • Thanks for the update!
  • Anyone know if an offer has been made? (2/20) x2
  • This search was an absolute disaster. Completely unprofessional, beginning with the chair of the search committee, and in clear violation of AHA hiring guidelines and standards of professional conduct. If indeed they actually hired someone, I hope that person is treated with a great deal more respect than those who applied and were interviewed.
  • Can you clarify - what hiring guidelines/standards of professional conduct were they in violation of? (I did not apply to this job and have no affiliation with the university or department, just curious...)

    • unclear. can you please explain what ^ means? the "x2" is that re: being asked for additional material?
      • It means that someone else has been asked for more material as well. A lot of times when people have the same experience as another poster on the wiki, they just add "x2" (or change it to "x3," "x4" etc) rather than type out "me too" or something.
      • Thx - no i was wondering if that meant that both of the "x2" had not heard from the committee since 1/23, or from 1/14. it was a bit confusing.
      • (I'm the poster from 1/23). I meant that I received an additional materials request on 1/14. As of 1/23, and still, I haven't heard anything back since that correspondence. The x2 person presumably has had the same experience.
  • Invitation for a campus visit (1/28)

  • Deadline: 7 Nov. 2014.
    • Intend to interview at the AHA
      • Does anyone know the reason for this posting? Is Jonathan Steinberg retiring?
        • FWIW: Kristen Stromberg Childers was Penn's Modern France historian. She was denied tenure under controversial circumstances: http://www.insidehighered.com/news/2014/04/30/female-faculty-member-sues-over-tenure-denial-she-attributes-child-care-duties
        • Oh dear...sigh.
        • That explains why this search seems so poorly run. They want Ivy league at short notice.
        • What seems poorly run about it? The advertisement is clear, advertised in plenty of time, etc.?
        • Warning: Penn's history dept. has had a disastrous record of tenuring recently-hired scholars (though the problem seems to be with higher-ups in the Personnel  Committee). In addition to the Childers case, there was the Ronald Granieri debacle in 2010.
        • What happened in 2010?
        • Do a Google search for "Ronald Granieri tenure" and you'll get the idea. I don't know the details but the poor guy had published more than enough, was considered a brilliant teacher, and was recommended for tenure but didn't get it. Leading to student protests!
      • Any news? 29/11
        • 4/12 request for full diss/book manuscript (x 2)
        • Anyone know what fields?
        • Have they sent out AHA requests? It's the 18th for crying out loud.
    • Any news re: interviews/search schedule from those asked for further materials in early December? (12/29)
    • I find this truly unbelievable that those of us asked to send further materials haven't heard anything. The AHA is in 3 days.
    • This is probably a situation where no news is bad news. With the AHA literally days away, they've probably already contacted those being interviewed. It's not unusual for search committees to not contact their 'nos' until they have a campus list or an offer accepted.
      • Had a materials request, have heard nothing, assumed as much, but it's odd no one posted here about the interview invites, isn't it?
      • I thought that was strange too, and they aren't listed as interviewing according to the AHA Job Center guide (even those schools interviewing in private suites are supposed to inform the AHA about intreviews)
    • Any news on campus interviews? (1/15)
    • On UPenn's History dept. calendar, there were three talks posted in Jan. and Feb. that appear to have been job talks.  Invited was an ABD, postdoc, and asst. prof.  Fields: 19th century Britain; 20th century Britain; 19th century France.

Yale University (USA: CT) - since 1750 (Open Rank)[]

  • Open-rank appointment in modern European history since 1750 in any field excluding Russia, beginning July 1, 2015.
  • Applications are invited from scholars at all levels. Applications are welcome from junior historians who already hold teaching positions, as well as from recent PhDs and those who expect their PhD by the time of appointment. Applications are also welcome from senior scholars at the level of full or associate professor.
  • All applicants should submit a letter of application, C.V., statement of research and teaching interests, and junior applicants must also submit a chapter-length writing sample prepared for blind reading, as well as three letters of reference at http://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/Yale/HIST.
  • The review of applications will begin 15 Oct. 2014 and continue until a suitable candidate is found.
    • Does anyone know how long a research and teaching statement should be? I have usually seen that information included in the letter of application.
    • Is this job for real or are they bringing someone up for tenure and trying to see if they are the greatest in the galaxy or whatever? (Yale used to run open rank searches whenever they were doing a tenure case to compare the candidate to outsiders...I don't know if they do this anymore).
    • They still do this, but I don't know if that's the case with this hire. Does anyone have inside info?
    • Adam Tooze is leaving; I assume it's to replace him...
    • Actually, I believe they don't do this anymore, changed the procedure a while back; so Tooze is leaving for CU, this is confirmed? Few weeks ago I heard it was still undecided.
    • Yale no longer does the terrible open search thing to tenure, so it's not that. Their modern France/WWI scholar was recently denied tenure.
    • Also, Yale's modern Britain/WWI scholar is retiring.
    • Has anyone heard anything?
    • Request for AHA interview x2 (10/30)
    • Crap--only two weeks to heartbreak. Gotta respect the efficiency, though.
    • Could those who got an AHA interview please indicate their fields (time period, geographic region) and their academic standing? Thanks!
    • Any more movement on this one? Or is it time for us non-invitees to move on?
    • [28 Dec] I've moved the extended discussion about hiring practices/conspiracy theories/the utility of this wiki/etc to the Talk Page AFII (talk) 20:35, December 28, 2014 (UTC)
    • Campus visits announced
    • Seven women and one man -- ranging from ABDs to full professors.
    • the online-application site was not properly arranged: it demanded reference addresses also for senior scholars although the ad had stated references only for juniors
    • Anyone have a list of any of the candidates brought to campus?

  • For full consideration: 31 Oct. 2014.
  • I have been hesitant to apply, even though TSU seems like a great place to teach. The department likely has an inside candidate
  • ... you mean, somebody who currently works there in a non-TT capacity may or may not be applying for the job. Which could mean a lot, or it could mean a little, or it could mean nothing at all. There are plenty of perfectly good reasons not to apply for a particular job. This isn't one of them.
  • That is true. I am simply curious. I will likely apply despite my reservations
  • Yes, I can confirm that TSU has an inside candidate and he's not just a run-of-the-mill adjunct.  His CV is really solid.  But I'm applying anyway -- why would you not?!
  • This inside candidate has a very solid CV, so it's reasonable to assume, given the oddly 'large' number of TT modern Britain/British empire posts this year, the individual in question might end up taking another job, doubt it though as they appear established in Texas.
  • Was told but cannot confirm that they did not hire the senior lecturer in British history
  • I can confirm that the person in question not the hire. The job went to an ABD.
  • Why hire an ABD over a published colleague who has won teaching awards, etc? Might someone psychoanalyze the committee on this one for me?
  • ... because, in the end, they decided he/she was a better fit for the job. This thread, BTW, is a perfect example of why obsessing over internal candidates is a waste of time and energy.
  • I know the work of both the internal candidate and the person who was hired.  The 'fit' argument does not apply here as both of them work on the same field: the British Empire in Africa during decolonization.  When that argument is set aside, any search should come down to the qualifications of the candidates.  In this instance, the search committee went against qualifications when making their decision.  The internal candidate is one of the rising stars in British imperial history.  Perhaps it was jealousy by the search committee that drove this decision.  Anyway you look at it, this reflects very poorly on the department and the university.
    • The department also (apparently) invited the internal candidate to stay on (in a 5/5) as a senior lecturer. I think that the simplest explanation for this particular decision is that they believed they could get and keep both.
    • Without access to all the information, it is pointless to speculate about why the search committee chose the candidate they did (as anyone who has ever served on one these things will probably recognize). It is particularly pointless - and unfair - to ascribe the decision to mean-spiritedness based upon nothing more than a glib assertion about what "should" have happened.
  • Request for Phone Interview 11/10 (x 2)
  • Campus Invite 1/6, 2/3

  • Deadline: review begins November 3, applications are accepted after this date until the position is filled. As stated on the USNA website.
    • Request for video interview
    • Above poster -- did you accidently post this under the wrong section? I'm just looking at previous edits and Naval is running a job for Ancient Greece that someone else got a video interview request for at roughly the same edit time as yours. I applied for this job (British) and have heard nothing, though obviously that doesn't mean anything. Anyone else get a video interview request? (12/4)
    • The committee has sent out requests for video interviews
    • Good to know. Congrats, and good luck, to those invited to interview.
  • Did anyone get a timeline from the cttee on when they intended to make decisions and notify applicants re: campus interviews?
  • Any word on campus interviews? I know they moved very fast in their other search
  • I would assume campus invites have been made at this point, but can anybody offer confirmation?
  • I haven't heard anything (x3)
  • Has anyone contacted the search committee? I did last week but haven't heard anything back
  • Received e-mail that position has been filled (2/11).

  • Good luck everybody!
    • It is weird, right?  We are competing against people who are often our friends--most of us probably know one another!--so we wish them luck and mean it, but at the same time hope they don't make it. I really hate that part of the job search.

University of California, Santa Cruz (USA: CA) - Modern France and the French Empire and Postcolonial World (18th c. - Present)[]

  • Tenure track Assistant Professorship in Modern France and the French Empire and postcolonial world, 18thC - present, to begin July 1 2015
  • Research focus may be centered on interactions of France with colonial Southeast Asia, North Africa, West Africa, or the Caribbean. Thematic interests may include, but are not limited to, empire, colonialism, and anticolonialism; gender; environment and technology; and cultural history.
  • The position carries a five-course-equivalency workload, which normally means teaching four courses over three quarters and carrying out other academic and service responsibilities.
  • The successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to teach undergraduate and graduate courses focused broadly on the intersection of French metropolitan and imperial/postcolonial history, and to contribute to the undergraduate survey in European history. Additionally, the ability to contribute to the department’s World History curriculum at both levels is desirable, as is the ability to contribute to graduate training under the rubric Early Modern/Modern Europe and the World.
  • Position contingent upon final budgetary approval. Degree must be conferred by June 30, 2015 for employment effective July 1, 2015.

  • Review of applications will begin on 14 Nov. 2014.
  • Please note that the initial review date has been changed to 3 Nov. 2014
  • Maybe I'm just paranoid, but I've never heard of a due date being moved up like this unless something sketchy was going on - inside candidate?
  • Maybe they've decided to get a sense of the applicant pool before the HSS meeting, so they can see some of the candidates there, given the environment and tech component?
  • Maybe they just realized they didn't want to read applications on Thanksgiving.
  • The most likely explanation is a miscommunication between the Search Committee and the University's HR department, which actually places and pays for the listing.
  • The requested statement on contribution to diversity was curious. What if a candidate is not a particularly "diverse" individual?
  • Indeed it was "curious." I know it is early yet, but has any heard anything?
    • The diversity statement was identfied as "optional." can we get some general idea of how many people actually submitted one?
      • I submitted one with my application
      • Not me.
    • It's becoming pretty common for UC schools to request "diversity statements" of their applicants
    • That department looks very white. Administration pressure for a diversity hire?
  • Invitation to AHA interview 12/5 (x5)
  • 1/13: has anyone heard anything?
  • Nope (also 1/13)
  • rien (1/14)
  • 1/21: I give up.
  • Campus invites sent
    • Well, fuck. (x2)

    • Campus visit invite (1/30)
    • As an endnote: I interviewed, and heard absolutely nothing from the committee afterward. It's unbelievably rude to not even bother to write a rejection letter. Just because jobs attract so many candidates should not give committees free reign to jettison any form of courtesy.
    • And 5+ months after the fact, a request to fill out an Equal Opporunities form! (5/12)
