  • Associate professorship in European medieval history c.700-1500, with special emphasis on the Nordic region, to begin 1 Feb. 2022.
  • Teaching: The associate professor will be expected to teach and supervise students at all levels (BA, MA and PhD) and contribute to the further development of a dynamic teaching environment, in collaboration with other colleagues. The position involves teaching topics in European, Nordic and Danish medieval history, ranging from the Viking Age to the later Middle Ages. The successful applicant will also contribute to teaching across the BA and MA programmes in history, including courses in historical method and theory, and to interdisciplinary teaching activities.
  • Most of the department’s BA and MA teaching is conducted in Danish, but applicants must also be able to teach and supervise in English at university level. If the successful applicant is not fluent in Danish, s/he will be expected to acquire the language within a period of approximately two years
  • In the application, applicants should explicitly present their vision and plans for the development of research in the field of the medieval history of the Nordic region. Simon Fraser University (CAN: BC) - Late Antique and Medieval periods

  • Assistant OR associate professor rank with experience in either Greek Language and Literature of the Late Antique and Medieval periods or in the History of Art of the Byzantine era., to begin 15 July, 2022.
  • The duties of the 5-year renewable Hellenic Canadian Congress of BC Chair in Hellenic Studies appointment will include research, teaching courses at the undergraduate level, graduate supervision, university service, and outreach both within the university and in the wider community. Ability to teach outside the advertised disciplinary focus, notably in other specializations within the broader umbrella of Hellenic Studies and Humanities (Ancient and Modern Greek Art or Literature and Language, or Medieval Art and Literature of the wider world around and beyond Byzantium), will be assessed positively.   • The junior professor will be expected to contribute to new developing the degree program module “European Studies,” and to participate in interdisciplinary research groups at Freie Universität Berlin. In addition, the appointee should help work on the existing bachelor’s and master’s degree programs and develop them further (including course offerings in English). They will also be expected to engage in public outreach in non-university contexts, including contact with media outlets, and be involved in lecturing activities on an international level. The junior professor will be expected to engage in the acquisition of third-party funding. They should also address gender and diversity issues as part of their teaching, research, and administrative duties.
  • The position entails a three-year appointment as a civil servant for a fixed period (“Beamter/Beamtin auf Zeit”). Following a successful midterm review (“Zwischenevaluation”), the position can be extended for another three years. If the appointee then successfully passes their tenure review, they will be appointed to a permanent professorship through a streamlined appointment procedure (i.e., the permanent appointment will not be advertised as a separate position).
