The Boston University College of Communication invites applications for a tenure-track position of Assistant Professor of Emerging Media Studies with an appointment in the Department of Film & Television. This position addresses social scientific aspects of new media with expertise in empirical approaches to topics such as virtual reality, augmented reality, digital production and its implications for the FTV industry, digital games, new distribution channels (including mobiles and online streaming), and novel business models. Familiarity with statistics is expected sufficient to teach and guide interested MA and doctoral students. This position is unique in that the successful candidate will be able to teach classes for students working with social scientific theories and methodologies and also classes that will be of interest to those preparing for careers in the field of film and television studies and/or production. Therefore, candidates should be able to make their area(s) of expertise relatable to students of film, television, and emerging media. This position is pending budgetary approval.
The College of Communication is home to interdisciplinary research and applications. The Division of Emerging Media Studies interacts with the three departments within the College: Film & Television, Journalism, and Mass Communication/Advertising/Public Relations.
Teaching mainly in the cross-cutting Division of Emerging Media Studies, the candidate hired for this position will be appointed in the Department of Film & Television and will also be offering instruction in that unit. Responsibilities include but are not limited to teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in mediated communication theory and research; supervising master’s theses and doctoral dissertations; and broadening the research profile of the Division of Emerging Media Studies and the Department of Film & Television.

Bowling Green State University (OH) - TT Assistant Professor in Film Studies - CAMPUS INTERVIEW STAGE[]
The Department of Theatre and Film invites applications for a tenure-track position in Film Studies who will teach undergraduate and graduate courses. Starting date is August 2019. The department has a thriving film culture with undergraduate majors in film studies and film production and a minor in film. The successful candidate will also participate in teaching and mentoring in the School of Cultural and Critical Studies (Popular Culture, American Culture Studies, Ethnic Studies, and Women’s, Gender, and Sexualities Studies), and may contribute to the School of Media and Communication, and other units on campus through cross-listed and/or team taught classes. In addition to teaching courses in film studies, the successful candidate will supervise the graduate instructors who teach film studies sections within the department. The position involves active contribution to fostering film culture on campus through programming and curating screenings and through advocacy for and leadership with the student film organizations, as well as adjudicating student work. Demonstrated research productivity leading to peer reviewed publication and presentations at national conferences is expected, as is advising of graduate students. The successful candidate is expected to contribute service to the department, college, university, and profession at a national level.
Qualifications: Candidates must have: a PhD in Film Studies or related field (e.g. Film and Media Studies, Cinema Studies, Cinema and Media Studies etc.), or the requirements for the degree completed by the start of employment (August 2019); expertise in history of film, experience teaching Introduction to Film, Film History, or both; and demonstrated research productivity through one or more published or in press journal articles or book chapters in film studies publications, or research presentations at national conferences. Experience teaching other film studies courses, teaching online and expertise in one or more of the following is preferred: aesthetics, audience reception, industry studies, critical race theory, and other methodologies.

We seek a candidate in global media and/or digital studies with particular expertise in transnational film and media production and consumption; candidates with a film and/or digital production background and a cultural studies approach are particularly encouraged to apply.

The Film and Media Studies program invites applications for a tenure-track position in Global Cinema at the Assistant Professor level beginning in August 2019. We are particularly interested in candidates whose research and teaching concerns cinema and media of South and/or East Asia, South America, Africa, and/or the Middle East. Candidates with a strong research emphasis in theoretical film/media studies (critical race studies, queer theory, phenomenology, affect studies, film-philosophy, etc.) are encouraged to apply. A Ph.D. in Film/Media Studies, or related field, is required.

Concordia University’s Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema in the Faculty of Fine Arts invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position in Critical Sexuality Studies in Film and Media to begin August 1, 2019.
Position Description: Film Studies at Concordia University is an internationally renowned leader in scholarship and curriculum devoted to the study of sexuality, gender, and queer film and media. Having participated as a co-founder and co-leader of the Minor in Interdisciplinary Studies in Sexuality since its establishment in 1999, the program has drawn hundreds of students to Montreal over the past twenty years. Integral to Film Studies and its undergraduate and graduate programs are pioneering courses that address the role of cinema and media in sexuality and queer study. Notably, Concordia hosted the first undergraduate class in North America devoted to the study of HIV as a cultural and political phenomenon and actively maintains the Queer Media Database (www.mediaqueer.ca).
We are seeking candidates with expertise in LGBTQ+ approaches to film and media. Applicants must display an outstanding record of research and teaching across these areas, as well as a strong commitment to interdisciplinary inquiry and the support of diverse communities. The ideal candidate will value intersectionality and integrate this into their research, teaching, and service.
Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be expected to teach specialized courses on LGBTQ+ topics alongside more general Film Studies classes. Their courses will contribute to the new BA Major in Interdisciplinary Studies in Sexuality, housed in the Simone de Beauvoir Institute. Other responsibilities include the supervision of MA and PhD theses, serving on graduate committees, in addition to performing suitable administrative duties. Over time, the selected candidate will actively embrace program stewardship and engage in committee work at the department and Faculty levels.
Qualifications: Applicants should hold a PhD in Film, Media, Cultural Studies, or a related discipline(s), have substantial teaching experience at the university level, and demonstrate an active program of research exemplified by a record of publications across the relevant fields. We require a candidate with the ability to mentor students at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Prior experience of service and commitment to diversity and inclusivity will stand as a high priority. Although classes are taught in English, a foundation in French is deemed an asset.

- You scared me with this request; I thought for a second that this job had moved forward, which wouldn't make sense. The job market moves slowly in the fall. There's never a rush to send out requests around Thanksgiving. It seems likely committees are meeting this week, and requests will go out by early next week. Also, keep in mind a lot of these jobs this year are in English departments--not Film & Media Studies. English timelines in years past have been built around MLA quite often: notify in early December, pre-interview (if at all) by mid-December, in-person interview at MLA in early January, invite to campus by mid-January, have a candidate under contract by March. The Research Fellow will be an active member of the European-funded project “DETECt: Detecting Transcultural Identity in European Popular Crime Narratives”, by assisting in the development of research proposals and the planning and delivery of the research activity within a specified area so that the overall research objectives of the project/school are met.
The successful candidate will form part of a cross-disciplinary research team working with staff in Film, English, French and Geography.
The post relates primarily to the Work Packages “Creative Industries” and “Creative Audiences”, one of eight sections of the project, specifically focusing on the study of the production, distribution and consumption practices of European crime narratives in the fields of the film and television industries.
Working alongside thirty post-doctoral and experienced researchers hosted at the other twelve partner universities, the post holder will be expected to provide quantitative and qualitative data, data and textual analyses to be used in the project publications and online outputs.
The researcher may use or acquire their skills in data visualisation to produce maps and graphs to be included in the project portal, reports and research outputs. The post holder will also contribute to dissemination activities including the organisation of workshops, screenings and other public events, as well as supervision of the project social media account.

Assuming that popular culture plays a decisive role in circulating representations that constitute a shared cultural asset for large sectors of the European society, DETECt examines examples of crime fiction, film and TV dramas from 1989 to present, to learn how mobility strategies such as co-production, serialisation, translation, adaptation, distribution, and more, have influenced the transnational dissemination of European popular culture. Researching the contemporary history of the crime genre in Europe, DETECt aims to identify the practices of production, distribution and consumption that are best suited to facilitate the emergence of engaging representations of Europe’s enormously rich, plural and cross-cultural identity. The knowledge acquired through a detailed research programme will be used in cultural, learning and public engagement initiatives designed to prompt the elaboration of new transnational formats for the European creative industries. These activities will profit from a set of experimental research and learning resources and innovative collaborative tools, aggregated and organised on DETECt Web portal.
The successful candidate must have:
- Have or be about to obtain a relevant PhD.
- At least 3 years’ relevant research experience
- Research experience on European film and media industries
- Demonstrable experience of data collection and analysis using Microsoft Excel/various other techniques
- Sufficiently relevant understanding and demonstrable application of both quantitative and qualitative research methods
- Ability to contribute to broader management and administrative processes
- Contribute to consortium research by links with industry, community groups etc.

The successful candidate will have an outstanding reputation in one or more of the following areas: directing, producing, shooting, reporting, writing, editing, or other components of nonfiction production. The preferred candidate will bring to the job a strong vision for leading one of the country’s finest documentary programs into the future. He or she will be a journalist first, being versed in the skills, principles, and ethics underpinning the profession, as well as in the history and evolution of documentary film, and be familiar with cutting-edge technologies shaping the field. The successful candidate will teach at the master’s level in the Graduate School of Journalism, working with students who produce their own documentaries to fulfill their Master of Journalism project requirements and who upon graduation seek careers in the field.
The selected candidate will oversee and teach within a documentary curriculum in which the craft of reporting, writing, and narrative storytelling remains central. The School expects the candidate selected to remain engaged with the field, continuing to produce documentaries and participating in critical discourse surrounding it. As a member of the faculty of the Graduate School of Journalism, the candidate will be expected to work with other faculty members in positioning the school to embrace the opportunities presented by the digital revolution. The successful candidate would be expected to participate actively in student advising and take part in faculty governance activities, including service on Journalism School committees.
