Baruch College CUNY - Assistant/Associate - Food Policy[]

The School of Public Affairs at Baruch College invites applications for a scholar of food policy. The start date is August 2014, the rank is assistant or associate professor, and the appointment is tenure-track. 
Areas of specialization of primary interest include food production and distribution, food security, food choice and diet-related health outcomes, access to healthy food, and agriculture and nutrition policy. We are particularly interested in scholars whose work has both domestic and global implications. The candidate should have a strong commitment to building a series of food policy elective courses for students in our BS and MPA programs in coordination with other public affairs faculty. The Evergreen State College seeks a faculty member with expertise in sustainable food systems and food justice. Applicants must be able to teach topics related to food sovereignty and food security through the lens of food/agricultural policy, production, distribution, trade or consumption at the local, regional and global level. The successful applicant should have a demonstrated ability to teach food and agricultural policy in a historical context. In addition, the successful candidate must have experience in community food advocacy. 

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Ph.D. (or equivalent terminal degree) plus practical experience working with community food advocacy or a Master’s degree plus a minimum of five (5) years of experience with NGOs, non-profit organizations and/or government agencies on issues of food justice, community food advocacy/food sovereignty or related fields (2 of the 5 years must be post-master’s degree);

The University of Colorado seeks candidates for a position of assistant professor with expertise in sustainable food systems or related fields of food harvest or production and its environmental implications. The environmental consequences of human food needs are inherently interdisciplinary, in that they involve ecological processes, natural resource management, policies to address equity and security, public health, and human values and decisions. We seek candidates with research explicitly focused on the interactions between food systems and the supporting environment. The Faculty of Environmental Studies (FES) at York University, Toronto, invites applications for the tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Food Studies to commence July 1, 2014. A PhD in a related field is required at the time of appointment. We are seeking applicants working in the field of food and culture, especially those doing arts-based research and cultural production. We also welcome applicants with the capacity to conduct community-based research on local food and social justice issues in Toronto, such as urban agriculture and food planning. The successful candidate will have outstanding potential in a field that combines the cultural, social, political, economic, and ecological dimensions of food and food systems.

Applicants should have excellent publication records and practical experience, and be able to provide leadership in interdisciplinary research and action in the area of Food Studies. Research areas could include but are not limited to, policy and governance, economics, factors affecting knowledge and acceptance of technologies, and the roles of new technologies in international development and food security. In addition to establishing a significant and externally-funded research program, the successful candidate is expected to teach courses and mentor students at the graduate and undergraduate levels, and to be a strong participant in McGill’s interdisciplinary Institute of Global Food Security. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in social or natural sciences and demonstrated ability in research and teaching; experience in working with the private and/or public sectors will be considered an asset.
