The Department of English and Foreign Languages in the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences at Avila University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, to begin August 12, 2013.

The successful candidate will have a commitment to undergraduate teaching in a liberal-arts environment and a record of excellent teaching and scholarly engagement. Bloomfield College (NJ) - Assistant Professor of World Literature

Bloomfield College Division of Humanities invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of assistant professor in World Literature. Candidates should have an earned PhD in World Literature or Post-Colonial Literature; candidates who are ABD in those fields at the time of application will also be considered. The ability to teach African American Literature will be considered a plus.   • That does seem very fast. I second the question above.
  • I inquired because no info on their website and they said their dates didn't coincide with MLA process; they are no longer accepting applications (10/1).
  • Does that mean that they are going to continue with the search processwith the applications that came in before September 10? Or does it mean that they have pulled the job? Curiouser and curiouser.
  • Clarification (10/8): Position is still open; no additional applications are being accepted. So--perhaps that early phone interview appointment is legit after all.
  • I suspect that they had a candidate in mind. This is a small school, with only a few full time TT profs, and a small cadre of lecturers with Ph.Ds. I think this was a way of bumping somoene up.
  • I was the candidate (above) who had the quickly scheduled phone interview. I had sent in my application back in August, when I first saw the job advertised, which might explain it. However, I received a rejection email yesterday.

The Division of Communication Arts and Humanities at Keystone College invites applications for a full-time tenure track Assistant Professor of English with specializations in creative writing and literature, especially British Literature to begin Fall 2013. Qualified applicants should hold a PhD in English with emphasis in the preferred specializations. Applicants who are ABD within one year of completion or who hold an MFA degree at the time of appointment also will be considered.

A demonstrable ability to teach undergraduate courses to majors and non-majors is required. Experience with online teaching and learning is a plus.

The normal teaching load is 12 credit hours per semester. Scholarship; service to the College; a strong commitment to advising; and, mentorship of students, including research involving undergraduates is expected. The successful candidate will have a well-developed or emerging research agenda.

In addition, the successful candidate must show evidence of the ability to work effectively with students and colleagues and have a strong commitment to undergraduate liberal arts education. The candidate must possess excellent communication skills and be self-motivated. All full-time faculty at Keystone College serve as academic advisers and on Division and College committees.

The Department of Literature and Language seeks to fill a tenure-track position in literature. Candidates should have Ph.D. in English or Comparative Literature in hand by Aug. 2013. Candidates should demonstrate the capacity to develop a generalist breadth to suit the needs of a small, interdisciplinary department with a curriculum spanning British and American as well as world literature in translation. Needs in the department include candidates prepared to teach non-Western and pre-1800 literatures.

Projected course offerings include composition, introduction to literature, historical surveys, and ethnic and minority literatures. Consideration will also be given to candidates with demonstrated experience or potential for leadership in serving our institution's efforts in promoting diversity and inclusion. Upper Iowa University faculty members teach two classes per eight-week term, four per semester. All English faculty regularly teach freshman and sophomore level writing and literature courses, and they are expected to lead, motivate and support their students in those students' educational and life pursuits. The successful applicant for this position can expect to teach junior and senior level courses, as needed, related to the candidate's area of specialization.

Teaching excellence is the primary criterion upon which Upper Iowa University evaluates its faculty. Additionally, the university expects all faculty members to participate in university governance, committee work and student activities, and to be generally productive members both of the university itself and of the community at large. Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited institution with a PH.D in English or a closely related field.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge and experience in teaching courses in English, writing and any other courses related to Literature. Knowledge of principles and methodologies of teaching of subject matter and course content. Knowledge in curriculum development and instructional strategies and techniques in education. Knowledge of curriculum development, program development and evaluation. Skills in counseling, advising techniques and interpersonal communications. Skills in public speaking and writing with a variety of individuals and groups. Ability to motivate, manage, and evaluate students and work effectively with people. Ability to follow written and oral procedures and instructions.

The Department of English in the College of Arts and Sciences at Clayton State University is seeking applicants for a tenure-track assistant professor position in English.
