The Goodnight Family Sustainable Development Department at Appalachian State University invites applications for the position of Department Chair, beginning July 1, 2016. Historic Preservation Program, Department of Geography and Geology, College of Arts and Sciences, Eastern Michigan University, Ypsilanti, Michigan 48197
The Department of Geography and Geology invites applications for a tenure-track Cultural Geographer/Historic Preservation Specialist at the Assistant Professor rank. This full-time position in the Graduate Historic Preservation Program will begin September 2016. The successful candidate will hold a minimum of a Master’s degree in cultural geography with demonstrated scholarship and instruction in Historic Preservation; or, the candidate will hold a Master’s Degree in Historic Preservation with demonstrated scholarship and instruction in cultural geography and/or cultural landscape. The successful candidate will teach and develop classes at the intersection of cultural geography and historic preservation. Founded in 1979, Eastern Michigan University’s Graduate Program in Historic Preservation resides within the Department of Geography & Geology because of its emphasis on cultural geography. It is one of the largest graduate preservation programs in the nation with an average of 90 students per year. It is certified by the National Council for Preservation Education. The Program offers concentrations in Preservation Planning and Administration; Heritage Interpretation, Cultural Tourism, and Museum Practice; Recordation, Documentation and Digital Heritage; a Graduate Certificate; and an Undergraduate Minor.

The Department of Global & Sociocultural Studies (GSS) at Florida International University invites applications for a tenure-track position in Human Geography at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning August 2016. The department seeks applicants specializing in the cultural, social, or political-economic aspects of climate change, with a specific focus on the impacts of sea level rise. Geographic area and research topic are open, but we are particularly interested in research interests that relate sea level rise to human mobility themes such as immigrant communities, human migration, community displacement, and diasporic communities. The Department of Geosciences, University of Arkansas-Fayetteville invites applications for a 9-month appointment as a tenure-track assistant professor with an anticipated start date of August 2016. We are seeking an outstanding individual in the broad areas of economic and/or political geography with a specific focus on environmental geography such as resource security; climate change and conflict; the economic impacts of global environmental change; the political/economic implications of environmentally induced migration. We are seeking a scholar who will establish and maintain an active research program in the area of Development and Sustainability, with the ability to secure external research funding. The scholar must have a focus on critical development studies, and be open to working beyond the boundaries of conventional academic disciplines. Both development and sustainability recognize the need for interdisciplinary approaches and solutions - ones that integrate natural sciences, social sciences and the humanities. Expertise in areas that address interrelationships between development and environment, climate change, social impacts of industry, community wellbing, changing lifeways and food sovereignty, are high priorities. Northern Arizona University’s Honors Program invites applicants for a full-time lecturer for the Fall 2016 and Spring 2017 semesters, with the possibility of annual renewal contingent upon Program needs and evaluation of lecturer. Minimum requirements include M.A.; experience teaching first-year students, college composition and/or writing, and literature; demonstrated effectiveness in undergraduate teaching; and ability to teach a wide variety of innovative liberal studies courses. Preference will be given to candidates who have a Ph.D. in a non-Western discipline or subfield who demonstrate excellent writing instruction skills, effectiveness in leading and moderating class discussions, ability to teach from an interdisciplinary perspective in a seminar format, and ability to work well with the Honors community as well as with an increasingly diverse student body and faculty. Finally, preference will be given to candidates who have experience with civic engagement projects/courses.
The successful candidate will teach four sections per semester (including HON 190: Seminar in Critical Reading and Writing [multiple sections]; HON 290: Honors Topic Seminar; and HON 390 Honors Advanced Seminar—all of which are writing-intensive and interdisciplinary. Class topics will vary depending on the content specialties of the successful candidate and the needs of the Program.
Salary ranges from $36,000 to $42,000.

Boise State University announces two tenured or tenure-track positions to join existing faculty in our Human-Environment Systems Initiative. These positions are part of a statewide, NSF-funded, effort to build expertise in social-environmental systems science. With Boise State’s new College of Innovation and Design as a home, these candidates will have the opportunity to help launch an integrated research and teaching program focusing on coupled human-environment systems. The initiative weaves together biophysical and social science knowledge and skills to develop solutions and quantitative approaches to society’s most challenging environmental problems.

We seek an applicant committed to undergraduate teaching in a liberal arts environment to participate in our rapidly growing Environmental Studies Program. A Ph.D. in Environmental Studies, similar interdisciplinary environmental program, or closely related field, must be in hand or expected by August 2016. This is a one-year position, beginning in August of 2016, which meets an ongoing staffing need (not a sabbatical replacement). Renewal for a second-year is possible.
The ideal applicant will have scholarly training in the Environmental Humanities, or crosscutting the Environmental Humanities and Social Sciences, or in the Environmental Social Sciences in areas that complement existing faculty expertise. Some examples of desired expertise include environmental justice, environmental conflict resolution, cultural aspects of sustainability and natural resource management, sustainable livelihoods, environmental communication, climate change and society, environmental law, political ecology, cultural ecology, or landscape history. Concentrations in Natural Resources Management include: Wildlife Biology, Park and Recreation Administration, Environmental Management, and Soil and Water Conservation. Concentrations in Geosciences include: Geology, Geography, and Meteorology. Pre-professional programs are offered in Forestry, Agricultural Engineering, and Veterinary Medicine. Current enrollment is 985 students with 28 full-time faculty and staff members. The Department operates a 650-acre teaching complex to support faculty class and laboratory needs.
