Carleton University: TT Assistant Prof in Critical Perspectives on Urban Environments

Carleton University's Department of Geography and Environmental Studies invites applications for an entry-level, tenure-track appointment in Critical Perspectives on Urban Environments, commencing on July 1, 2017.

Applications are invited from individuals who are able to teach core and other courses in our Environmental Studies and (human) Geography BA programs, augment existing teaching and research strengths in these fields within the Department and more generally at Carleton, and provide leadership in one or more of the following thematic areas as they relate to urban environments: 1) urban natures; 2) feminist political ecology; 3) environmental justice; 4) Indigenous urban perspectives; 5) colonialism and cities.

The successful applicant will show leadership in research, be required to develop a research program in one or more of the position's thematic areas, and to supervise and mentor graduate students. We are interested in applicants with experience in community-based or action-oriented research methodologies and a commitment to engaged scholarship. Research interests and abilities that have the potential to enhance current research areas and/or introduce new strengths in the Department, and that make collaborative linkages between the natural and social sciences, will be considered assets.

Teaching experience and capabilities to teach large 1st and 2nd year courses and upper year seminars in the Environmental Studies and Geography BA programs are expected. Ability to make contributions to student recruitment will also be considered an asset.

Applicants must have a PhD, or be in the final stages of completing their doctoral degree in environmental studies, geography, or a related discipline, demonstrate their commitment to excellence in teaching and research, and be committed to developing a strong program of research and scholarship as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications. Carleton's Department of Geography and Environmental Studies (DGES) delivers six undergraduate programs, including General (3-year) and Honours degrees (BA in Environmental Studies, BA and BSc in Geography, BA and BSc in Geomatics, and Bachelor's in Globalization and International Studies - Specialization in Globalization and Environment), and three graduate programs in Geography (MA, MSc and PhD). It is also the host department for Carleton’s interdisciplinary Masters programs in Northern Studies. The Department is home to about 400 undergraduate majors and 60 graduate students, and is committed to teaching and research that focuses on theoretical and applied aspects of interdisciplinary scholarship. DGES is in the midst of a significant renewal period and is seeking an individual who is eager and committed to participating in this on-going process in addition to contributing to its BA Environmental Studies and Geography programs.

San Francisco State University: TT ASSISTANT PROFESSOR BIOGEOGRAPHY

San Francisco State University, Department of Geography & Environment invites applicants for a tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor position in biogeography beginning August 2017. The department seeks individuals with a strong background in terrestrial biogeography, preferably with applied interests in natural resource or environmental management. The Department of Geography & Environment (http://geog.sfsu.edu) provides undergraduate and graduate programs in Geography (B.A. & M.A.), Environmental Science (B.S.), Resource Management & Environmental Planning (M.A), and Geographic Information Science (M.S.). The department supports research with field and lab equipment, and computer labs with advanced GIS, remote sensing and modeling software. Department faculty and students maintain active research programs in a wide range of local and regional topics often entailing collaborations with Bay Area nonprofits and government agencies. Our degree programs provide multiple perspectives and tools to understand the relationships between people and their environments, and to solve problems related to local and global change.

Qualifications: Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Geography or closely related field relevant to this position (e.g. environmental science or ecology). Post-doctoral experience preferred. Candidates must have a strong background in biogeography. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to teach courses in the areas of biogeography, introductory environmental science, and natural resource or environmental management. Candidates must have an active record of scholarship related to their specialty area and evidence of external support or the potential for external funding of these activities. Excellence in teaching and scholarship must be demonstrated as well. Candidates are preferred who have experience in a diverse student body or multicultural settings. The position is for a biogeographer focusing on terrestrial biotic systems. Research foci of particular interest to our students include natural resource management, adaptation to climate change, habitat quality and assessment, the wildland-urban interface, fire ecology, wetlands, restoration science, and response to disturbance. Collaboration with faculty in the department and college (especially Biology), as well as external researchers in public agencies, is desirable and of benefit to the candidate's research program, as well as a benefit for students.

Responsibilities: The position requires graduate and undergraduate teaching in geography and environmental science, mentoring and advising graduate and undergraduate students, developing an active ongoing scholarship program in ones area of specialty, and ongoing committee and service assignments. =========Central Washington University (WA) - TT Assistant Professor, Geography=========

The Department of Geography at Central Washington University is seeking to fill a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning September 2017 with a focus on one or more areas of planning, including community, regional, small town, rural, urban, or environmental resources.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach existing introductory and advanced land use planning courses as well as one or more high enrollment 100/200-level geography courses and additional courses in the applicant's area of expertise. We further seek a scholar whose research has potential to attract external grant and contract funding, to foster research collaboration with students, and to develop working relationships with local, regional, or federal agencies.

Minimum Qualifications

• A Ph.D. in geography, planning, or a closely related field is required at the time of appointment.

Preferred Qualifications

======Eastern Washington University (WA) - Assistant Professor in Geography======

The Department of Geography & Anthropology at Eastern Washington University invites applications for a tenure track faculty position with the rank of Assistant Professor to begin mid-September 2017.

We seek candidates broadly trained in critical physical geography or related environmental fields to provide teaching and research expertise in the areas of human impacts on the landscape, cultural and/or environmental resource management and environmental/social justice. Preference will be given to candidates who can connect these expertises with one or more of the following areas: wetlands science, hydrology, geomorphology, and climatology.

In addition, we seek candidates with evidence of research and teaching that emphasizes field-based methodologies. Candidates with a demonstrated record of interdisciplinary teaching and research are especially encouraged to apply. Regional specialization is open; however, preference will be given to candidates who have demonstrated research and/or field experience related to the Pacific Northwest region. Preference will also be given to candidates with experience designing and/or leading a certificate program.

All faculty in the department are expected to engage in effective teaching and assessment of student learning. The typical teaching load is seven courses per year on the quarter system and the successful candidate will have teaching responsibilities involving introductory courses as well as upper-division courses in his/her areas of specialty. Harvey Mudd College invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Cultural Geography beginning  July 1, 2017.  We seek candidates whose scholarly work addresses social justice, urban landscapes, and/or the environment. We welcome scholars working with diverse methodologies, including fieldwork and geovisualization, as well as more theoretical approaches.

Minot State University - Assistant Professor of Geography

Minot State University’s Division of Social Science invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Geography. This appointment will be at the assistant professor level starting Fall 2017. Geography is part of the Division of Social Science, an interdisciplinary unit that also includes History, Sociology, Economics, Philosophy, and Political Science.

The university seeks a broadly trained geographer to teach introductory principles, world regional geography, and a rotation of electives and GIS courses. Fields covered should include cultural geography, physical geography, and GIS. Teaching load is 12 credit hours per semester. The geography program offers a minor and supports students in general education, history education, elementary education, social science, and the sciences. Applicants for the position should demonstrate potential for excellence in undergraduate teaching, engagement in service, and an active research agenda. The position is a tenure-track position with a nine month contract. Advanced graduate candidates will be considered, with a completed Ph.D. in Geography required at time of appointment. Post-Doctoral Positions

Postdoctoral Research Opportunity in Energy and Environmental Policy - University of Delaware

The University of Delaware is recruiting a motivated researcher to develop a broad range of new research proposals and partnerships in energy and environmental policy. The Post-Doctoral Researcher is required to have a Doctorate from an interdisciplinary program. It is essential that the candidate be comfortable with both natural science and social science discourse on energy and the environment and demonstrated good English writing ability. Additional language expertise would strengthen the application. The position will be supervised by the incoming Blue and Gold Distinguished Professor of Energy and the Environment, Dr. Saleem H. Ali and situated jointly within the Department of Geography (College of Earth, Ocean and Environment) and the Center for Energy and Environmental Policy.  Professor Ali will also have a Senior Fellow appointment at Columbia University's Center on Sustainable Investment and continued affiliation with the University of Queensland (Sustainable Minerals Institute), Australia. The postdoctoral researcher will also have access to these networks for research development.

The salary range for this position will be $US 52,000 to $US 60,000, depending on experience with full benefits accorded by the University of Delaware. We have secure funding for the position for up to 3 years with the possibility of extension based on funds raised during the initially funded period.
