Postdoctoral Research Scholar in Explaining Differential Success in Biodiversity Knowledge Commons

The School of Life Sciences at Arizona State University invites applications for a full-time, fiscal-year appointment as a Postdoctoral Research Scholar. We are seeking a postdoctoral fellow to participate in a research project describing and explaining differential outcomes among collaborative, distributed communities of scientists leading biodiversity data commons on a shared software platform. The postdoc will lead ASU projects within the context of a collaborative grant between ASU and Purdue University to investigate the structures, functions, and outcomes of multi-institutional collaborations to digitize, curate and publish observations of biological species from museum collections and citizen science projects. The postdoc will work collaboratively to collect data from qualitative interviews and surveys of biodiversity scientists and stakeholders for the data commons and analyze these data with other quantitative measures of the properties and outcomes. The project PI, Beckett Sterner, is an expert in history and philosophy of data science and faculty in ASU’s School of Life Sciences (SOLS). Project Co-PIs are Zoe Nyssa, an anthropologist of conservation science at Purdue University, and Steve Elliott, who studies the economics, social organizations, and reasoning strategies of research and is affiliated with ASU’s Center for Gender Equity in Science and Technology. The qualified candidate is anticipated to start January 1, 2022 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Essential duties

1. Conduct qualitative interviews with scientists.

2. Conduct online surveys of visitors to data portal websites.

3. Analyze interview and survey data to characterize properties of portals, e.g. as socio-technical infrastructure and communities of practice

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications

· Successful candidates must have at the time of appointment an earned doctorate in a relevant field, including (in alphabetical order): anthropology, biodiversity, bioinformatics, critical data studies, computer science, data science, history and philosophy of science, organizational science, sociology, science and technology studies, and related disciplines.

· Successful candidates must be able to demonstrate training and expertise, either through research or coursework, in qualitative data collection and analysis.

· Successful candidates must show demonstrated success or evidence to work effectively in interdisciplinary teams, a strong record of scholarly achievement, and excellent communication skills.

Desired qualifications

Desired qualifications include a track record of coursework or research experience in one or more of the following skills:

· Survey design and analysis

· Quantitative social network analyses with large data sets

· Quantitative studies of online social communities, e.g. editing behaviors of Wikipedia contributors or issue management in open source software projects

· Data collection and analysis for systematic reviews of published and gray literatures

· Qualitative Comparative Analysis (QCA)

· Biodiversity data analysis

Columbia Society of Fellows [Deadline: Oct. 4]

The Columbia Society of Fellows brings together exceptional early career scholars in the humanities and humanistic social sciences to be part of a vibrant cross-disciplinary community. In addition to teaching opportunities in affiliated departments and time for research, Fellows participate in and often organize lecture series, workshops, and other scholarly events that contribute to the intellectual life of the SOF/Heyman and the university more broadly.

Founded in the mid-1970s to encourage interdisciplinary teaching and research and housed in the Heyman Center for the Humanities since the 1980s, the Society offers one-year fellowships, renewable for up to two additional years.

The Society of Fellows is made possible by the generous support of the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and the William R. Kenan Trust.

Overview

The Society of Fellows in the Humanities at Columbia University intends to appoint a number of postdoctoral fellows in the humanities broadly construed for the academic year 2022-2023. Fellows newly appointed for 2022-2023 must have received the PhD between 1 January 2018 and 1 July 2022. The fellowship amount for 2022-2023 is $65,000. Medical benefits are provided, and subsidized housing is available. There is a $7,000 research allowance per annum.

Eligibility

PhD (or disciplinary equivalent) in the humanities or humanistic social sciences received no earlier than 3 years prior to and completed by the fellowship start date. For the current application cycle, the PhD must have been completed between 1 January 2018 and 1 July 2022. Please note that, in response to the COVID shutdown, we have extended the period of eligibility by a year (from 3.5 to 4.5 years past the award of the PhD.)

Dartmouth College - Mellon Postdoctoral Fellowships [Deadline: Religion subfield extended to Nov 30]

With the generous support of the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, Dartmouth will be accepting applications for two postdoctoral fellowships in the humanities from Fall 2022 to the end of Spring 2024. These fellowships foster the academic careers of scholars who have recently received their Ph.D. degrees by permitting them to pursue their research while gaining mentored experience as teachers and members of the departments and/or programs in which they are housed. The program also benefits Dartmouth by complementing existing curricula with underrepresented fields.

To qualify for the fellowship, applicants should have completed the Ph.D. no earlier than January 1, 2021.

We seek candidates for placement in the Department of Religion (with preferred specialization in Afro-Caribbean religions, Latin American religions, and/or Mayan/Aztec religion). Applicants must focus on materials customarily associated with research in the humanities or employ methods common in humanistic research.

Terms of Appointment

Fellows are expected to be in residency at Dartmouth during the regular academic year for the full two years of the fellowship, although occasional travel may be approved. Fellows teach one course in their home department(s) or program(s) in the second year of their residency. This course may be offered at any level from introductory to advanced topics that contribute something new to the Dartmouth curriculum, and the selection of course will be made in consultation with the home department(s) or program(s). Fellows do not teach basic language courses.

The appointed fellows will enjoy full use of such college resources as the library, computing center, the Leslie Center for the Humanities, Rockefeller Center for Public Policy and the Social Sciences, the Dickey Center for International Understanding, the Hood Museum of Art, and the Hopkins Center.

The 2021-23 fellows received an annual stipend of $57,528 plus benefits, an annual research allowance of $2,000, and a first-year-only $2,500 computer allowance, the use of which must be in adherence with Dartmouth policy. The terms for the 2022-2024 fellows will be similar.

The application period for 2022-24 Mellon Fellowships for placement in the Department of Religion and the the Asian Societies, Cultures, and Languages Program began on Monday, August 9, 2021 and closed on September 15. The application period for 2022-24 Mellon Fellowships in the Department of Religion opened again on October 11, 2021, and will close on Tuesday, November 30. Applications for Mellon Fellowships are to be submitted via Interfolio. Please do not submit materials via email or postal mail; only information submitted via Interfolio will be considered. Materials to be submitted by the deadline include the application and all required documents listed in Interfolio. Incomplete dossiers will not be reviewed.

Application requirements include a completed application form; three confidential letters of reference; a CV; academic transcripts, and a personal statement (of no longer than 2,000 words) outlining completed research (including dissertation), work in progress, professional goals and plans for publication, and any other information relevant to the candidacy.

All documents are required electronically via Interfolio by November 30, 2021, at 12 midnight EST.

To qualify for the fellowship, applicants should have completed their Ph.D. no earlier than January 1, 2021. Applicants who do not yet have a Ph.D., but expect to complete one by the June 30^th that precedes the start date of this fellowship, should submit a letter on institutional letterhead attesting to their anticipated schedule for completion. It may be signed by the advisor, chair of the department, or other relevant faculty member. Please include this document as part of your transcript.

Fellowship applications will be evaluated by the Leslie Center's Advisory Committee, in consultation with the appropriate Associate Deans of the Faculty for the Arts & Humanities, Social Sciences, and Interdisciplinary & International Programs.

There is no requirement that the fellows be U.S. citizens, but the Mellon Foundation does want to see the fellowships awarded to individuals who seem likely to make their careers in the United States.

Dartmouth College Society of Fellows Postdoctoral Fellowship Deadline: 13 September 2021

These fellowships foster the academic careers of scholars who have recently received their Ph.D. degrees by permitting them to pursue their research while gaining mentored experience as teachers and members of the departments and/or programs in which they are housed. We are particularly interested in scholars whose research is innovative and transcends traditional disciplinary divides. Applications will be accepted in the various fields of humanities, social sciences, sciences, interdisciplinary programs, engineering, business and medicine.

Society Postdoctoral Fellows

Stipend and resources

Society Fellowships normally run for up to 36 months, beginning on September 1 and ending on August 31st of the final year. Fellows receive a monthly stipend of $4,600 plus benefits, and $5,000 annually to support computing, travel and research needs. The departments and/or programs where fellows are appointed Lecturers have the primary responsibility for providing office and working space, as well as access to other research needs or equipment.

Qualifications

Applicants for the 2022 – 2025 Society Fellowships must have completed a Ph.D. no earlier than January 1, 2020, and must have their degree in hand by June 30, 2022. Selection criteria include exceptional and innovative research, ability to transcend disciplinary boundaries, and potential to contribute to an interdisciplinary community of scholars. Duke University: Perilman Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Jewish Studies

The Perilman Post-Doctoral Fellowship provides a stipend of $55,000 per year, as well as benefits, for one full year, with a second year possible renewal. The Fellow will be expected to be in residence, to conduct research in Duke's library and archival collections, to participate actively in the intellectual life of the university, to teach three semester courses over two years, and to give a public lecture on their research. The Fellow may not undertake any other sustained teaching or employment during their tenure at Duke. Emory University: "Visions of Slavery" Mellon Sawyer Postdoctoral Fellowship Deadline: 15 December 2021

Emory University, Atlanta, GA, invites applications for a one-year postdoctoral fellowship to support an Andrew W. Mellon Foundation Sawyer Seminar entitled “Visions of Slavery: Histories, Memories, and Mobilizations of Unfreedom in the Black Atlantic” scheduled for the 2022-23 academic year.

The seminar working group will facilitate periodic research workshops, public lectures and symposia, and other events exploring the manifold ways slavery in the Black Atlantic has been archived, interpreted, memorialized, mobilized, and resisted. Through comparative and interdisciplinary lenses, they will seek to assess historical and contemporary forms of “unfreedom”—the various modes of forced labor inclusive of, and extending beyond, chattel slavery, such as peonage, indentured and debt servitude, convict leasing and prison labor, child labor, and sexual exploitation.

The Mellon Sawyer fellowship is a nine-month appointment from September 1, 2022 to May 31, 2023 and includes stipend, health benefits, moving expenses, and a research budget. The fellow is expected to be in residence at Emory University and will be hosted by the Department of African American Studies.

Hastings College: Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Philosophy

One year Post-Doc focusing on teaching and curriculum development: teaching 2 courses/semester (Intro to Philosophy and Intro to Ethics) and helping to develop two interdisciplinary majors--one in Democracy and Citizenship and one in Medical Humanities--and a B.Phil degree. The position is funded, along with a Literature Post-Doc and a Political Science Visiting Assistant Professor, by an NEH Grant associated with their "A More Perfect Union" initiative. Position dates are Jan 2022-Dec 2022 (teaching in spring and fall, only curriculum work in summer).

ICAS:MP advertises multiple Short-Term Fellowships for the academic year July 2022-June 2023 [Closing date: 22 October 2021]

The M.S. Merian – R. Tagore International Centre of Advanced Studies “Metamorphoses of the Political: Comparative Perspectives on the Long Twentieth Century” (ICAS:MP), a project under the aegis of the Max Weber Stiftung India Branch Office, advertises multiple fellowships for the academic year July 2022-June 2023. ICAS:MP is funded by the German Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and has its main location in New Delhi, India, though the research conducted at the centre is not restricted to India and South Asia. It offers fellowships for senior researchers and a smaller number of outstanding postdoctoral scholars who work on at least one of the ICAS:MP research themes (TM=Thematic Modules).

(Postdoctoral) Fellowships can be awarded for up to 7 months. ICAS:MP will pay a stipend which includes allowances for housing and other costs in Delhi. Please note that this is a residential writing fellowship based at ICAS:MP in New Delhi. McGill University Dept of Jewish Studies: Simon and Ethel Flegg Postdoctoral Research Fellowship (CAN) Deadline: 15 Oct 2021

The Department of Jewish Studies at McGill University invites applications for the Simon and Ethel Flegg Postdoctoral Research Fellowship. This year’s competition will focus on the Hebrew Bible. Candidates must have mastery of Hebrew and Aramaic with an ability to teach Rabbinics as well. The fellowship will be for the 2022-2023 academic year (August 1, 2022-July 31, 2023) and can be renewed once. Fellows will likely teach one course per semester; they are expected to actively participate in the intellectual life of the department and to deliver a public lecture during their stay in Montreal. The successful candidate will receive a stipend of $52,000 CAD (plus benefits), and a research allowance of $8500 per year. Applicants must have obtained their PhD after June 2018 and have a PhD in hand by June 1, 2022.

The Provost’s Postdoctoral Fellowships is a competitive program intended to increase the diversity of the academic research community at the University of Pennsylvania. Appointments

Consistent with the University’s postdoc policy, appointments are for one year. Renewals to the second and third year of the program are made annually and will be based on satisfactory performance and mutual agreement between the fellow and the postdoc’s primary mentor. Annual reports on the postdoc’s progress are required.

Awards

Fellows starting in July 2022 will receive a stipend of $57,000 a year in year 1 with $2,000 increases in years 2 & 3. Additionally, the fellow will receive annual allowances for travel ($2,000) and research ($4,000), and a one-time relocation expense of up to $5,000. The University and CHOP also provide a medical, vision, dental and life insurance benefits package. Successful candidates will receive highly mentored scholarly and research training as well as courses and workshops to enhance their research skills and prepare them for faculty positions in a major university. The program is designed to provide postdocs with time to focus on research and publishing activities that will enhance their career prospects for either a faculty appointment in an academic institution or in other sectors of the economy such as industry, government or nonprofit organizations.

The position is with Dissent: Power/less in India, a cross-disciplinary initiative among Princeton specialists in South Asian Studies that seeks to explore the generation and negotiation of political vocabularies in a range of quotidian sites, such as the body, artefact, family, farm, factory, school, university, market, and media. The plurality of beliefs, practices, and social groups in the Indian subcontinent has produced a vibrant tradition of dissent in a variety of cultural, political, and geographic spaces. At the same time, the discursive and philosophical meanings of dissent in India can only be understood in relation to emerging as well as deeply historical forms of dominance and hegemony. These contestations produce new categories of 'the political' and 'the ethical' that structure both state and society in India. This project will examine how these contingent categories serve to mobilize, organize, and produce new modes of confronting and conceiving of power in India. It will bring humanistic and social scientific perspectives on India and its relationship with the world towards improving scholarly comprehension of the present moment and for envisioning paths forward.

Royal Armouries - Jean Curry Memorial Fellowship - Deadline: 18 Nov. 2021

The Jean Curry Memorial Fellowship is a nine month postdoctoral fellowship, hosted by the Royal Armouries. Applications are encouraged for work on the history of arms and armour, defined broadly, without restriction of time period or geography.

The Royal Armouries is the UK’s national collection of arms and armour, with its roots in the medieval stockpile of war material at the Tower of London. It now operates across three sites: its historic home at the Tower of London; a purpose-built site in Leeds, to which the majority of the collection moved in 1996; and a Victorian fortification outside Portsmouth, which houses most of the artillery collection. Its collections have a wide-ranging global remit, with significant holdings from Europe, Africa and Asia, and are recognised as one of the most prestigious and comprehensive collections of their type in the world. In addition to the museum’s collection of objects, it has extensive archival collections dealing with the development of arms and armour, and a well-stocked specialist library.

The Jean Curry Memorial Fellowship is intended to promote study of arms and armour to the highest standards with a view to publication. This fellowship will be awarded to one postdoctoral candidate who has successfully completed their viva voce examination for a doctoral degree in any field of study, between 1 August 2020 and 1 August 2021. Although successful applicants will not be expected to be resident in any of the cities from which the museum operates, the project should make the fullest use possible of the museum’s collection and resources. Candidates will also be able to draw on the specialist knowledge of the museum’s curators, conservators, archivists, and librarians in conducting their research.

The fellowship will be worth £22,500 per annum, pro rata for the nine month duration of the fellowship, and may not be held in conjunction with any other substantial maintenance grant. eikones – Center for the Theory and History of Images invites applications from outstanding junior and senior researchers in the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences for three one-year NOMIS Fellowships beginning September 1, 2022.

Since 2005, eikones has served as a center for graduate and postgraduate research on images. The center is dedicated to the interdisciplinary study of images as instruments of human knowledge and cultural practices. It investigates the functions and effects of images throughout history and in our contemporary society from analytical and empirical perspectives.

The NOMIS Fellowship Program supports groundbreaking research projects related to how images act as models or paradigms in scientific and aesthetic contexts. We are interested in the fundamental ways images serve as instruments for making complex structures visible and accessible to interpretation. In both aesthetic and experimental settings, images often assume an exemplary character, aiding epistemic and learning processes. They fulfill evidential, didactic, and symbolic functions, and thereby produce different forms of knowledge. Relevant topics of research might consider, for example, the history and theory of imaging techniques in the natural sciences; the ideals and stereotypes that shape social contexts and political discussions; or the formation and dissolution of canons, iconographies, character types, and styles in the arts. On the methodological side, the projects should be rooted in a specific research field, and reflect on the relation between their individual discipline and image studies.

The fellowships will allow outstanding scholars and scientists to pursue their research free from teaching and administrative obligations. Fellows receive a generous salary, travel funds, conference funds, and access to excellent academic infrastructure. University of Birmingham (UK:Eng) - Research Fellow (Histories of Sexual Health) - Deadline: 21 Nov. 2021

This 3.5-year PDRA post is attached to Histories of Sexual Health in Britain, 1918–1980. It is open to applicants from any field in health, the humanities or social sciences. Funded by a UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship, Histories of Sexual Health maps historical changes in sexual-health services, campaigns, policies and experiences. The project and its research team are part of the multidisciplinary Social Studies in Medicine group within the Institute of Applied Health Research.

An important component of the project is the production of a major new oral-history collection. The PDRA will work with the PI, Dr Anne Hanley, to interview people who accessed and/or staffed sexual-health clinics between 1948 and 1980. The collection will be deposited with the British Library and will constitute a significant resource for the project team, other researchers and public audiences.

The PDRA’s principal responsibility will be to conduct interviews and to process the resulting data. The PDRA will be expected to undertake substantial travel to conduct interviews with participants around the UK. This will occasionally necessitate overnight stays. As the PDRA will be working with elderly participants, they must be willing to take appropriate safety precautions to protect participants and themselves from Covid. This will likely include conducting some interviews remotely using videoconferencing software. Equipment, travel and subsistence expenses will be covered by the Fellowship. The PDRA will use oral-history data alongside other forms of qualitative and quantitative research to produce high-quality outputs in the broad field of sexual health.

Additionally, the PDRA will work with Dr Hanley to establish a multidisciplinary forum for researchers, health workers, policymakers and activists working in sexual health. The PDRA will also contribute to a programme of RSE workshops and public-engagement events. The costs of the required safeguarding training and DBS checks will be covered by the Fellowship.

Built into this post are opportunities for professional development to diversify and enhance the PDRA’s research skills and expertise. They will receive regular mentoring to ensure that their career needs and objectives are being supported throughout the project. They will report directly to Dr Hanley as their line manager.

The PDRA will be based at the University of Birmingham’s Edgbaston campus. However, there is flexibility for remote working.

The University of California President’s Postdoctoral Fellowship Program was established in 1984 to encourage outstanding women and minority Ph.D. recipients to pursue academic careers at the University of California. The current program offers postdoctoral research fellowships and faculty mentoring to outstanding scholars in all fields whose research, teaching, and service will contribute to the diversity and equal opportunity at the University of California. The contributions to diversity may include public service towards increasing equitable access in fields where women and minorities are underrepresented. In some fields, the contributions may include research focusing on underserved populations or understanding inequalities related to race, gender, disability or LGBTQ. The program is seeking applicants with the potential to bring to their academic and research careers the critical perspective that comes from their non-traditional educational background or understanding of the experiences of members of groups historically underrepresented in higher education in the United States.

The USC Society of Fellows in the Humanities is an interdisciplinary community of postdoctoral scholars and faculty members in the humanities and humanistic social sciences. Fellows meet regularly in formal and informal settings to present and discuss advanced scholarly research. Postdoctoral fellows are affiliated with the Society as well as with a USC department of their choice, and have faculty mentors in both. Postdoctoral fellows in the humanities engage with each other as well as humanities departments, institutes, and centers at USC and in the broader Los Angeles area. Each year the Society admits roughly five postdoctoral fellows, who are appointed for two-year terms during which they pursue research and teach three courses over four semesters, with one semester for full-time research. They are expected to reside in the Los Angeles area during the academic year and to participate in the scholarly life of the Society, the host department, and the university. The salary for postdoctoral fellows is $65,000 per year plus fringe benefits, with an additional research and travel account of $6,000 per year.

University of Pittsburgh -- Postdoctoral Fellow in Digital World History -- Deadline: January, 15 2022

The World History Center (www.worldhistory.pitt.edu) and the Department of History (www.history.pitt.edu) at the University of Pittsburgh seek applicants for a two-year postdoctoral fellowship in Digital World History beginning Fall 2022.

We seek candidates who have a background in history or a related discipline and who also have expertise in one or more digital methodologies, including data development, scripting languages, and linked data. Proficiency in digital mapping and spatial analysis is particularly desirable. Applicants from information science who have demonstrable expertise in history are also welcome to apply. In addition to engaging in their own research, the successful candidate will collaborate on the Center Director’s current research initiatives, including the World Historical Gazetteer (http://whgazetteer.org/). The successful candidate should also have experience in digital humanities pedagogy and teaching.

The Fellow will serve as the student supervisor and lead instructor for the Digital Atlas Design Internship (https://www.worldhistory.pitt.edu/education/digital-atlas-design-internship). This will require regular meetings with students and faculty advisors. The Fellow is also expected to advise faculty and graduate students about digital methodologies and tools, consult with the system administrators who support the Center’s servers, and participate actively in the Center’s activities, events, and intellectual community.

University of Toronto -- Mark S. Bonham Centre for Sexual Diversity Studies -- Deadline: January 10, 2022

The Mark S. Bonham Centre for Sexual Diversity Studies at the University of Toronto invites applications for a one-year Postdoctoral Fellowship during the 2022-23 academic year, with the possibility of an additional one-year renewal, to support emerging scholars pursuing research in queer, trans, and LGBTIQ2SA+ studies. Our search committee welcomes proposals that span disciplinary boundaries. Applicants from all fields of the humanities and the social sciences are encouraged to apply. The successful applicant is expected to be in residence in the Greater Toronto Area during the period of their award and will join the faculty and students who make up our intellectual community and participate in the Centre’s day-to-day activities. They will receive a dedicated office space at University College and be an active member of the Queer and Trans Research Lab (QTRL) 2022-23 cohort, a collaborative research project based at The Bonham Centre with a focus on methods in queer and trans studies across the disciplines as well as across creative and activist research practices.

The Postdoctoral Fellow will offer one undergraduate class for the Sexual Diversity Studies undergraduate program and, at some point during the period of their award, deliver at least one public lecture that highlights their work. Fellows will have access to the vast faculty resources, archives, and library collections available at the University of Toronto, the Bonham Centre, and in the city. The successful candidate will receive a combined research and teaching stipend of $60,000, plus benefits, to support themselves for the duration of their fellowship. The Institute for Advanced Studies in Culture (IASC) at the University of Virginia invites applications for two-year postdoctoral fellowships. The Institute for Advanced Studies in Culture is an interdisciplinary research center and intellectual community based in the interpretive social sciences committed to understanding contemporary and historical cultural change and its individual and social consequences, training young scholars, and providing intellectual leadership in service to the common good. In its twenty-five year history, the Institute has cultivated projects on, for example, political culture and democracy, social theories of modernity and critical theory, moral philosophy and the public sphere, philosophical anthropology and religious experience, and human development and the making of the modern self in education.

Fellowships are open to all qualified candidates without restriction as to citizenship or current residence, though all fellows must be in residence at IASC in Charlottesville for the duration of the award period. Institute fellows are expected to participate in IASC events, to be an active member in its the seminars and reading groups, and to refrain from teaching or other forms of employment during their fellowship.

Washington University in St. Louis announces the twenty-first year of Modeling Interdisciplinary Inquiry, a postdoctoral fellowship program endowed by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, designed to encourage interdisciplinary scholarship and teaching across the humanities and interpretive social sciences. We invite applications from recent PhDs, DPhils, or D.F.A.s (in hand by June 30, 2022, and no earlier than June 30, 2018) who have not previously held a research-oriented postdoctoral fellowship for a position as Fellow. In September 2022, the newly selected Fellow will join the University’s ongoing interdisciplinary programs and seminars. Yale University - Institute of Sacred Music - Post-doctoral Associate - Music and the Black Church

The Yale Institute of Sacred Music, an interdisciplinary graduate center for the study and practice of sacred music, worship, and the related arts, invites applications for a post-doctoral associate position in Music and the Black Church. Alongside conducting their own research, the fellow assigned to the Institute’s interdisciplinary program in Music and the Black Church would be expected to contribute to this new initiative pedagogically, programmatically, and administratively, delivering one course and one symposium during each academic year, along with some student advising, participation in ISM academic gatherings, and other service. Implicit in the program’s title in an interest in various configurations of the relationship between music and the Black church: the genres of music most frequently performed by black Christian congregations, as well as the influence of the Black church on a host of idioms—confessional and commercial, American and global.

While the successful candidate should have well-formed interests and expertise in black sacred music, their PhD need not be in musicology, ethnomusicology, or music theory. Instead, they might have earned degrees in American studies, African American studies, religious studies, or theology.

Candidates must hold the Ph.D. or equivalent degree, earned since 2018, in a relevant discipline, and should have strong potential as an instructor.

Archive/Counter-Archive and The Regent Park Film Festival are pleased to announce a competition for a 1-year MITACs Accelerate Post-Doctoral Fellowship position hosted by York University and The Regent Park Film Festival.

The Regent Park Film Festival (RPFF) is a non-profit cultural and educational media arts organization. It is Toronto’s longest-running, free community film festival, and is the sole community film festival in Canada’s largest and oldest public housing neighbourhood. In addition to its annual festival in November, it offers year-round screenings, a School Program, workshops, and community events at no cost. RPFF is dedicated to showcasing local and international independent works relevant to people from all walks of life. The key communities it serves are Black, Indigenous and People of Colour (BIPOC) communities, people with low-income, people who live in public housing, and Regent Park residents.

In this opportunity the candidate will coordinate the Regent Park Film Festival’s Regent Park Made Visible Project as well as engage in visual research on the historyof the Regent Park neighbourhood and its communities. The successful candidate will coordinate a digital media arts project where artists will engage with visual source material (archival footage of Regent Park as well as narrative forms set in Regent Park) to respond and create original works (short films) for digital and in-person presentation at the 20th anniversary of the Regent Park Film Festival in 2022. The candidate’s own proposed project will engage in visual research both within and outside of institutional archives and will explore themes that are pertinent to Regent Park today: gentrification, immigration and belonging, community building, racial justice, housing and income security.

The New York Public Library is pleased to offer National Endowment for the Humanities Long-Term Fellowships to support advanced research at the Center for Research in the Humanities, located in the Library’s flagship Stephen A. Schwarzman Building. Fellowships are open to scholars researching the history, literature, and culture of peoples represented in collections housed at the Schwarzman Building and to professionals in fields related to the Library’s holdings, including librarianship and archives administration, special collections, photography, prints, and maps. Projects drawing heavily on collections traditionally used to advance the social sciences, science and technology, psychology, education, and religion are also eligible, but only if the project takes a humanistic approach, relies on typically humanities-related methodologies, and contributes to the body of knowledge which enlightens the human experience.

The NEH Long-Term fellowships support two fellows for nine months with a stipend of $45,000.
