Notice of passing to next stage and formal request for letters of reference (12/21) (x2)

1/21 - Any updates since request for letters? =No (x1)

2/3- any update since letters request? - Nope

2/8 - Rejection received

  • 2/9 different user - I've heard nothing over here (submitted reference letters) . anyone else? [2/9: Same here; submitted letters in late Dec but nothing since] x2 -- another user: I haven't heard anything, either -- submitted letters in early January. <--- Their website says that offers will be sent out in late Feb. I guess that means there's no interview process for this one?
  • 2/10 yet another user: i haven't heard anything either. is it really possible they don't do interviews for this? that seems bananas to me but hey, it's the academic humanities in 2022, anything could happen i guess <-- That, or everyone checking this forum has already been rejected, and just doesn't know it yet. Which unfortunately is probably as much a possibility (and update 2/12 - looks like I was right)
  • 2/11 I posted before, still haven't heard anything. But I found another message board (https://socjobs.proboards.com/thread/8496/boston-university-society-fellows) where someone posted yesterday, "I checked in with them this week and they said that candidates selected for an interview will be notified within next the next week." That is a frustratingly ambiguous sentence -- notified of application decisions or notified about getting an interview? -- but I think they meant the latter (?). (No one in the thread reports having been interviewed.)
  • 2/12 - Interviewed this past week, was notified of interview the week before. (x2) Though I received a request for letters two weeks after folks posted about them on the forum, so who knows. Good luck! <--- Well, I think this tells me all I need to know ... would that the committee had let us know earlier. thank you for sharing, and congrats, best of luck!
  • 2/22- Emailed to inquire about status on 2/16 and was told "The Selection Committee is currently still in the process of reviewing applicants. Applicants who are selected for interviews will receive an email from us soon." No word in the week since (I received a request for letters in December, but no communications otherwise).
  • 2/24 - Any news since the interviews? <----I haven't heard anything since the interviews (2/28).
  • 3/2 - Offer received

12/17 Does anyone know the general timeline of this postdoc?------12/17 Last year they started notifying those who moved to the second round in mid-January. Just FYI they only offered 6 fellowships last year out of over 500 applicants.

1/4 - I haven't received a decision on my application yet.

1/7 - E-mail received about scheduling a zoom interview.------ 1/14: Was this a group email for everyone who has advanced, or was it for only your department/area? Wondering if more notices are coming. ----It was not a group email, but an individial email from the department I applied to. I think it's possible that different departments may be contacting at different times.

1/16: I have not received a decision on my application yet.

1/21: I have not received a decision on my application yet.

1/25: Notification of department level nomination. Postdoc office should make final decisions on offers by mid-Feb

2/1: To the person above^^ Which department did you receive a nomination from?

2/2: if we don't get a notice of department notification I'm assuming we're out? Or does not everyone get notified?

2/4: Notification from postdoc office that I am a finalist. "Selected scholars for the program will be notified with a follow-up e-mail by the end of February.  All finalists will receive notification regardless of the results by February 28, 2022."

2/15: rejection email. It said there were only 200 applicants. Last year there were 600. Not sure if that's a typo or what.

2/21: Any finalists hear back yet?

2/21: ^^ Nothing yet ... I really hope we hear something this week.

2/25: 2pm EST... Still nothing. *SIGH*

2/28: 12pm EST ... Have any of the finalists heard anything?

Columbia Society of Fellows [Deadline: Oct. 4]

The Columbia Society of Fellows brings together exceptional early career scholars in the humanities and humanistic social sciences to be part of a vibrant cross-disciplinary community. In addition to teaching opportunities in affiliated departments and time for research, Fellows participate in and often organize lecture series, workshops, and other scholarly events that contribute to the intellectual life of the SOF/Heyman and the university more broadly.

Founded in the mid-1970s to encourage interdisciplinary teaching and research and housed in the Heyman Center for the Humanities since the 1980s, the Society offers one-year fellowships, renewable for up to two additional years.

The Society of Fellows is made possible by the generous support of the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and the William R. Kenan Trust.

Overview

The Society of Fellows in the Humanities at Columbia University intends to appoint a number of postdoctoral fellows in the humanities broadly construed for the academic year 2022-2023. Fellows newly appointed for 2022-2023 must have received the PhD between 1 January 2018 and 1 July 2022. The fellowship amount for 2022-2023 is $65,000. Medical benefits are provided, and subsidized housing is available. There is a $7,000 research allowance per annum.

Eligibility

PhD (or disciplinary equivalent) in the humanities or humanistic social sciences received no earlier than 3 years prior to and completed by the fellowship start date. For the current application cycle, the PhD must have been completed between 1 January 2018 and 1 July 2022. Please note that, in response to the COVID shutdown, we have extended the period of eligibility by a year (from 3.5 to 4.5 years past the award of the PhD.)

Application Requirements

ONLINE APPLICATION--Complete and submit the online application. CURRICULUM VITAE--No more than 4 pages. RESEARCH PROPOSAL--No more than 1500 words. WRITING SAMPLE--No more than 3500 words (footnotes and bibliography may be appended and don't count towards the word limit.) SAMPLE COURSE--Two-page undergraduate syllabus of your own design. TWO LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION.

Timeline

A select number of candidates will be invited to interview in January 2022. Fellowship decisions will be announced by early March 2022. Applicants who have not been contacted for an interview by 11 January 2022 should assume that their candidacy is no longer active.

12/2--Anyone have info on this? Have interviews gone out? If not, insider info on when?

12/8--nothing yet here

12/15--answering above question: seems to me based on previous years that interview requests go out the week of the 20th. <-- 12/21 Still haven't heard anything...

12/23--still nothing. based on previous years, I'm taking this a bad sign.

12/23--received email response Monday saying committee was meeting then (12/20) to designate interviewees, and that news would go out soon. Nothing since. Hard to say if silence = bad news given how close we are to the holidays. -- Q: was this email about the commitee unprompted, or did you ask them and then get a response? 12/26--"Go out soon"? As in last week or as in before Jan 1 (the website says interviews will be notified by the end of December, so we only have one more week to wait IF they haven't already notified)?

12/23 received invitation for Zoom interview

12/30--I don't understand why the website says late December but the confirmation email says January 11...does anyone know which it is?---12/30-From the website FAQ: "Invitations to interview will be extended by late December with interviews occurring in late January." Perhaps the Jan 11 date is posted on the original call just in case someone turns down the initial interview request and they need to find alternates?

12/31 - heard from someone inside that invites to interview were sent last week.

1/2-- Just logged into my application portal for this and it says "Competition Closed".

1/3 - rejection email received (x7)

11/23/21: Any word yet? We're getting close to the window where interview requests go out!

11/23: Interview scheduled.

12/02 : All interviews scheduled by now or just one? Also for which day is the interview scheduled for? // Re: All interviews have been scheduled by now, as today (12/02) is the last day of interviews for the finalists.

12/16: Any news? /// Nothing here; I was interviewed two weeks ago. Nervewracking. (good luck everyone!!)

1/12: anyone hear anything? I interviewed on 12/2 but haven't had any news since.

1/18: still crickets here. Anyone get any news post-interview? Last year an acceptance was posted on 12/18.

Rejection email 11/23 (x3)

Did the rejection email say how many people applied this year? <--- nope, just that under 1% of applicants will win a postdoc.

11/26 I'm surprised there aren't more updates on this thread. Did they only send out a few rejections? Or are people not updating this like last year?

11/29 yeah, was I the only one rejected? lol

11/29 Nah, I received the same rejection. It just seemed pointless to add my "yep, me too" after the first poster of rejection. But it does seem this board is much quieter than in past years.

12/20 Just found this forum. Haven't received a rejection so I guess I made some first cut. Here's hoping!

12/20 - also did not receive a rejection. based on previous years, looks I'll be having an anxious holiday break as it doesn't seem like they send out interview requests until the early/middle of next month.

1/4 - I haven't received a decision on my application yet. (x4) - Good luck everybody!

1/11 - Still no word [x2]

1/12 - In an automated reply to my e-mail, the Society wrote that (final?) decisions will be made this month. <--thanks for emailing! I hope this means that interviews are still to come and not already scheduled.

1/13 - In response to my e-mail, the Assistant Director informed me of my rejection. She also informed me that the committee has been meeting to determine whom it will interview. Over 700 people applied.

1/13 - Rejection e-mail received. <- Was this a mass generic rejection or personal email? At what time? Thank you for updating. <- just kidding, my rejection went to spam. X6

1/13 - interview request received. (x2)

1/24 - I saw from last year that offers were made on the Monday after interviews, so if anyone gets a call, please update us on here to put us out of our misery XD.<-- has anyone heard anything? <--1:25pm PST and, sadly, no call received (x6) <-- ok so seems like they didn't make any calls yet hopefully..we shouldn't look too much into them having made the call on a monday last year lol

1/25 - Offer call around 1pm; good luck everyone (x3 [call at 12:30pm EST])

02/25 - I am curious whether others who didn't receive offers on 01/25 got any kind of follow-up correspondence from SoF. <-- Me too. I did not get anything yet.

03/01 - Maybe their ears were burning. Looks like they finally found time to send their PFOs out today.

3/2 - Just a received a second rejection email from SoF... after receiving one on 1/13. Lovely. (x2)

ACLS Fellowship Competition

ACLS Fellowship Program

Deadline 9/29/2021

2/25/2021 - I just wanted to create a space for the general ACLS fellowship program so that folks could update any news since acceptances went out in late feb last year. I have no news!

2/25: Based on previous years, I assume winners have heard this past week, so I'm calling this a lost cause.

2/28: Finalist email; interviews scheduled for mid-March (x2 - ACLS Emerging Voices)

3/1: ACLS does interviews?

3/9: Anyone heard about the general fellowship (not EV)?

3/9: I heard through the grapevine that at least some of the general fellowship notifications went out in late Feb.

3/11: "Heard through the grapevine" is pretty vague. This is the grapevine. Did you hear from someone who was notified or someone who knew someone who was notified? In any case, today's Friday and our wait will end soon for better or worse!

3/11: To the poster above, you think we will be notified today, or just soon on a Friday? I know I did not get this, but I keep checking. Hope they notify soon so I can be done!

3/11: (I'm not the above poster.) Last year the mass rejections came 3/23.

3/15: Just checking if anyone has heard more?

3/15: acceptances for the general fellowship went out in late feb.

3/18: So...if we haven't heard yet, should we assume we didn't get it?

3/18: given that last year's success rate was about 4.5%...we can basically all assume that. ACLS has lately had an even lower funding rate than the guggenheim fellowship. (limiting the competition to untenured scholars resulted in more applications than ever.)

3/21 I also have not heard anything.

3/24 I haven't seen anyone announce their award on twitter...so I feel like there is still hope?

3/24: In previous years, winners were asked not to make any announcement until mid-April when official press release was ready. Last year mass rejections went out 3/23 and the official press release was 4/12. It takes several weeks to get papers signed and onboarding done.

3/24: "With nearly 900 applications for 60 awards, the competition for these fellowships was steep, and our peer reviewers faced the difficult task of choosing awardees from among many deserving projects. Although your application advanced to the final round of review, ultimately it was not selected for one of this year’s awards."

4/15: ACLS “Emerging Voices Fellowship”: I was interviewed in late March being one of the finalists. The week of April 11 should have been revelation week, but it’s Friday after 5 and nothing happened. Any news?

4/18: ACLS "Emerging Voices" - No news (same deal as previous poster, good to know I'm not the only one)

4/18: ACLS "Emerging Voices" -- I'm also in this boat. I had a finalist interview on March 28. No news since then.

4/18: ACLS “Emerging Voices”- I was notified of award early last week, given deadline of Friday 4/15 to accept. Asked not to make announcements as notifications were on rolling basis through May.

Reply 1: Thank you for sharing! It makes sense that the first-choice candidates were notified already and given until Friday to accept or reject. This means that, from now on, whoever gets an award notification is second choice. I think.

Reply2: Yes, this is helpful! I interviewed beginning of April, so waiting for my rejection notice any day now lol.

4/22: ACLS "Emerging Voices" -- I received my rejection today.

Emerging Voices Fellowship

Summary The American Council of Learned Societies is pleased to announce the third competition of the Emerging Voices Fellowship which allows recent PhDs in the humanities and interpretive social sciences to take up two-year positions at select institutions in ACLS’s Research University Consortium for the 2022-23 and 2023-24 academic years. Up to 45 fellowships will be available for a fall semester 2022 start date.

NOTE – Candidates will not be permitted to hold Emerging Voices Fellowships at their PhD-granting institution.

This final iteration of the Emerging Voices Fellowship will maintain its focus on the vanguard of scholars whose voices, perspectives, and broad visions will strengthen institutions of higher education and humanistic disciplines in the years to come. The program seeks to sustain emerging scholars who are “both-and”: who are both outstanding scholars and effective communicators to diverse audiences inside and/or outside the classroom. We are proud of our record in this program so far of supporting scholars of color, scholars from low-income and unconventional backgrounds, scholars who have taken on extraordinary roles in graduate school (organizing public art exhibits, teaching in prison education programs, managing research support groups, to name just a few). Preference will continue to be given to these groups.

Emerging Voices Fellowships provide a $65,000 annual stipend plus benefits, a one-time relocation allowance of $3,000, and $3,500 (annually) in research/professional development funding, childcare or elder care costs, as well as access to ACLS professional development resources. Fellows are expected to teach one course or the equivalent per year.  Fellows will participate in professional development activities organized by ACLS in the first year of the fellowship. In the second year, they will join projects in their host institution in a limited, pre-arranged capacity – for example, assisting in organizing public events, contributing to institutional research, or leading a workshop for doctoral students.

Emerging Voices Fellows will join a robust community of practice in the publicly engaged humanities and will have the opportunity to draw on networks of related ACLS programs, including alumni of the Mellon/ACLS Leading Edge Fellows and Scholars and Society Fellows. The diverse experience of the ACLS community is a shared resource that fellows are encouraged to draw on during and after their fellowship terms.

For questions about eligibility, please visit the FAQ page or contact [[the Emerging Voices Fellowship|EVFapplications@acls.org]].

We will also ask applicants to choose from a list of programs and initiatives and explain their relevant experience and potential contribution. This list, which we are currently developing in dialogue with potential host institutions, includes but is not limited to programs and initiatives such as race and ethnicity studies, gender and sexuality studies, premodern studies, area studies, creative arts, digital humanities, public humanities, medical humanities, environmental humanities, community-engaged research and generalist, non-field specific.

Evaluation Criteria The selection and placement take place over three stages: ACLS will organize two rounds of peer review, the first a large group of external readers holding PhDs and the second involving a small group including ACLS staff. Then, finalists determined by this process will be interviewed by ACLS’s Research University Consortium hosting institutions, who will send rankings and feedback to ACLS. Top- ranked candidates will be offered the fellowship.

Dumbarton Oaks Post-Doctoral Fellow in Plant Humanities(USA:DC) - Plant Humanities Initiative

Dumbarton Oaks is a research institute affiliated with Harvard University that supports research internationally in Byzantine, Pre-Columbian, and Garden and Landscape Studies. Dumbarton Oaks encompasses a museum with world-class collections of Pre-Columbian, Byzantine, and European Renaissance art, and a historic garden designed by Beatrix Farrand. Since 2018, with funding from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, we have pursued an initiative in the emerging interdisciplinary field of the Plant Humanities, which explores the extraordinary significance of plants to human cultures. A key outcome of the first phase was the Plant Humanities Lab, an open-access digital site that features visually engaging, interactive narratives on plants from the perspectives of race, colonialism, environmental justice, foodways, indigenous knowledge, evolution, and biodiversity loss in the Anthropocene. Dumbarton Oaks is committed to further developing and enhancing the site as a tool for innovative pedagogy, online sharing of collections, and communicating the importance of plants and multispecies interactions to a broad audience.

As part of the Plant Humanities team, the Post-Doctoral Fellow will work closely with Garden and Landscape Studies on joint study days and colloquia and collaborate with Byzantine and Pre-Columbian studies on developing scholarly content for the Plant Humanities Lab. The fellow will also work with the Library, Museum, Gardens, Publications, and other departments at Dumbarton Oaks. Lastly, the Fellow will help support and develop institutional collaborations.

The Post-Doctoral Fellow will focus on three main areas:

  • Research and content creation to produce new cultural histories of plants for the Plant Humanities Lab. The research will include the Dumbarton Oaks rare book collection and other special collections at collaborating institutions, as well as large digital repositories such as Global Plants and the Biodiversity Heritage Library. The Fellow will acquire and apply diverse digital skills and participate in the development of new digital resources. It is expected that the research will also feed into public-facing articles for JSTOR Daily (where the team contributes a Plant of the Month feature) and peer-reviewed articles.
  • Collaboration with faculty at diverse institutions to test out the adoption of the Plant Humanities Lab in the classroom, and with students to manage the editorial process of future external submissions to the Lab. This may entail editorial training and the implementation of an editorial management software.
  • Research, development, and implementation of education and public outreach projects related to the Plant Humanities Initiative, that may include online exhibitions, development of syllabi and lesson plans, an onsite or digital museum and garden tour focused on plants, etc. The Fellow will also teach in the Plant Humanities Summer Program.

This fellowship offers unique opportunities to build career skills in the digital humanities, special collections, and innovative higher-ed pedagogical tools, while benefiting from the unique resources of Dumbarton Oaks. The Fellow will participate fully in Dumbarton Oaks’ dynamic community of scholars, working collaboratively with all three programs of study, and will devote 20% of the fellowship time to personal research.

Qualifications

  • PhD in the humanities and humanistic social sciences with a focus on plants and people. History, Art History, History of Science, Literary Studies, Anthropology, Food Studies, Ethnobotany and the Environmental Humanities are all pertinent areas of inquiry, but we welcome applications from other fields provided that candidates have a strong commitment to humanistic modes of inquiry and interpretation.

  • Excellent research skills.
  • Experience working with special collections and digital repositories.
  • Teaching experience, especially at the undergraduate level.

Harvard University, Society of Fellows, Junior Fellowships

Candidates are nominated for Junior Fellowships, generally by those under whom they have studied. Applications are not accepted from candidates themselves. A letter of nomination should include an assessment of the candidate's work and promise i.e. a full letter of recommendation as well as the candidate's complete contact information, including current residential mailing address and email address, and the names, mailing addresses, and email addresses of three addtional people who have agreed to write letters of recommendation by early September. Upon receipt of the nomination, the Society will request letters of recommendation from the referees and ask the candidate to submit samples of written work (i.e. dissertation chapters, articles, papers) along with a one or two-page proposal describing the studies he or she would like to pursue while a Junior Fellow. The candidate is also requested to provide transcripts of both undergraduate and graduate records. The Society will request that the letters of recommendation be submitted electronically - not by email, but through an upload to a secure portal site. After receipt of the nomination, the three referees will be contacted on a rolling basis beginning in July by our office both by regular mail and email and asked to submit their letters within 3 weeks of the date of our email. They will be provided with a link to the submission portal. (This is why full and accurate email addresses are necessary to process the nomination.) Instructions for uploading letters will be provided to each referee, along with a password to enter the secure site. On the basis of the materials submitted, the Senior Fellows select a certain number of candidates for interview. It is from this number that the final selection is made. (The Society pays the traveling expenses of those candidates interviewed.) The deadline for receiving nominations for Junior Fellowships that begin July 1, 2022 was Friday, August 6, 2021.

12/13: Has anyone who interviewed received an offer yet?

Liberal Studies at New York University invites applications for three Postdoctoral Faculty Fellow positions to begin September 1, 2022, pending administrative and budgetary approval.

The Liberal Studies Core is a dynamic liberal arts curriculum that provides a global and interdisciplinary foundation for nearly 100 NYU majors. The curriculum emphasizes conceptual and spatial frameworks to trace the movement of ideas and the interconnectivity of material culture, through the study of different texts, histories, exchanges, structures and systems, languages, arts, and writing from early antiquity through contemporary times. Small seminar-style classes and close faculty-student interaction ensure the benefits of a liberal arts college within a large urban research university. We are especially interested in hiring qualified candidates who can contribute through their research, teaching and service to the diversity and excellence of the Liberal Studies community.

Liberal Studies Postdoctoral Faculty Fellows teach one course for the first semester, and two courses for each subsequent semester in the Core Curriculum. Fellows work closely with an assigned Faculty Mentor, they attend pedagogy workshops that explore innovative approaches to interdisciplinary global teaching, and they have the opportunity to lead faculty development workshops or host program wide events in their area of scholarly, creative, or pedagogical expertise. Fellows are appointed for two years, renewable for a third year based on performance and programmatic need; they are non-tenure track and non-renewable beyond the third year.

We seek applicants for the following positions:

Writing: Ph.D. in Writing Studies, Translation Studies, Creative Writing, or related field. Candidates must have the ability to teach in the first year writing sequence of the Core Curriculum with a global, interdisciplinary, and intersectional emphasis.

Candidates must have the ability to ground analysis of artistic traditions and historical events in the global themes of each era with an emphasis on cross-cultural exchange.

Wondering if anyone has seen this... <---Some of the provost fellowship awardees did announce their offers on Twitter last year, but it was only towards the end of March. It's unclear if there was any sort of preliminary first round or interview stage before the final decisions

2/11: No updates still <--2/14 Nothing here

2/22: no updates x2

3/5 i emailed the contact for the postdoc 2/28 for status of my application, but no response has come. <-- 3/10 I emailed them about a week before you did, around 2/21 maybe. Never got a response either

1/4: I haven't received a decision on my application yet. (x2)

1/6: Last year I got a (very nice) rejection on Feb 1, so if I had to bet that'd be their timeline this year.

2/2: nothing here (x4) I'm wondering if this is a bad sign, because don't they typically invite talks of the final candidates to take place around now?

The Chadha Center for Global India (CGI) at the Princeton Institute for International and Regional Studies (PIIRS) at Princeton University invites applications for a postdoctoral research associate position for the 2022-2023 academic year. One postdoctoral fellowship will be awarded to an exceptional recent PhD. The appointment is for one academic year, with the possibility of renewal for a second year pending satisfactory performance and continued funding. Applicants must demonstrate outstanding scholarly achievement. Applicants should have completed a Ph.D. degree in any Humanities or Social Science discipline by July 1, 2022.

The position is with Dissent: Power/less in India, a cross-disciplinary initiative among Princeton specialists in South Asian Studies that seeks to explore the generation and negotiation of political vocabularies in a range of quotidian sites, such as the body, artefact, family, farm, factory, school, university, market, and media. The plurality of beliefs, practices, and social groups in the Indian subcontinent has produced a vibrant tradition of dissent in a variety of cultural, political, and geographic spaces. At the same time, the discursive and philosophical meanings of dissent in India can only be understood in relation to emerging as well as deeply historical forms of dominance and hegemony. These contestations produce new categories of 'the political' and 'the ethical' that structure both state and society in India. This project will examine how these contingent categories serve to mobilize, organize, and produce new modes of confronting and conceiving of power in India. It will bring humanistic and social scientific perspectives on India and its relationship with the world towards improving scholarly comprehension of the present moment and for envisioning paths forward.

The position entails the organization of lectures and other academic events on campus (or online if public health restrictions emerge) and an annual graduate student workshop in connection with the project's goals. It also involves initiating discussions and outreach toward the development of an "Archive of Dissent" in collaboration with the University's South Asian Studies Librarian. Interested applicants should apply online at https://puwebp.princeton.edu/AcadHire/position/21541 and submit a cover letter demonstrating how their research and organizational experience will contribute to the project, a CV, a 25-page writing sample, and contact information for three references. Applications are due by October 15, 2021, 11:.59 pm ET. Apply here: https://puwebp.princeton.edu/AcadHire/apply/application.xhtml?listingId=21541

Royal Armouries - Jean Curry Memorial Fellowship - Deadline: 18 Nov. 2021

The Jean Curry Memorial Fellowship is a nine month postdoctoral fellowship, hosted by the Royal Armouries. Applications are encouraged for work on the history of arms and armour, defined broadly, without restriction of time period or geography.

The Royal Armouries is the UK’s national collection of arms and armour, with its roots in the medieval stockpile of war material at the Tower of London. It now operates across three sites: its historic home at the Tower of London; a purpose-built site in Leeds, to which the majority of the collection moved in 1996; and a Victorian fortification outside Portsmouth, which houses most of the artillery collection. Its collections have a wide-ranging global remit, with significant holdings from Europe, Africa and Asia, and are recognised as one of the most prestigious and comprehensive collections of their type in the world. In addition to the museum’s collection of objects, it has extensive archival collections dealing with the development of arms and armour, and a well-stocked specialist library.

The Jean Curry Memorial Fellowship is intended to promote study of arms and armour to the highest standards with a view to publication. This fellowship will be awarded to one postdoctoral candidate who has successfully completed their viva voce examination for a doctoral degree in any field of study, between 1 August 2020 and 1 August 2021. Although successful applicants will not be expected to be resident in any of the cities from which the museum operates, the project should make the fullest use possible of the museum’s collection and resources. Candidates will also be able to draw on the specialist knowledge of the museum’s curators, conservators, archivists, and librarians in conducting their research.

The fellowship will be worth £22,500 per annum, pro rata for the nine month duration of the fellowship, and may not be held in conjunction with any other substantial maintenance grant. As well as the core salary, it offers over £4,000 in additional funding for research expenses and conference attendance. 12/15--Just curious to see how much interest there was for this one. How many applied? (x3)

1/4 -- I have not received a decision on my application yet.

1/11 -- advanced to departmental round of review + letters of rec requested by 2/2. No word on overall applicant pool, but currently narrowed down to 100 finalists. x3 (according to the e-mail, the 100 finalists are competing for 4 slots). <--which departments are these for? <--Department of German studies, in my case. <-- Center for Comparative Studies of Race and Ethnicity, in my case. (x2)

01/24 -- Has anyone heard or have any information on the timeline for the field Iberian and Latin American Cultures? <--I haven't. I've seen on another thread the Musicology interviews went out, so maybe it's too much to hope that ILAC is the only of the 4 that's behind... <-- Same as the above, got email about advancing to departmental rounds w/ same dates for rec letters.<-- 01/29 -- I advanced to the departmental round in ILAC, but haven't heard anything about interviews or anything else since that 1/11 announcement.

02/01 -- I was expecting the departmental round decisions to come out yesterday, so I contacted them today. They replied that departmental decisions have not been finalized yet. They will start notifying finalists today as information comes in, but these notifications will continue to go out over the next two weeks. Meanwhile, recommendation letters are still due tomorrow (February 2nd). Hope this helps those who are waiting. --- If any of us gets a finalist notification over the next two weeks, please let the rest of us know, and which department the notification was for! Thanks.

02/02 Finalist selection from the director came out today (at least for German). Total no. of finalists is 19.

02/02 - ^^^Thanks for the update on finalist selection--and congrats! I'm guessing if they know the total number of finalists (19), then that includes the other 3 departments too, in which case I didn't make it, since I haven't heard anything. But if anyone can confirm decisions have also been made for Comparative Studies of Race and Ethnicity, it would be much appreciated. <--ditto for Iberian and LatAm Studies? <-- Received finalist notification for Comparative Studies in Race & Ethnicity--can confirm that the 19 finalists represent all four departments/centers.

2/24 - anyone have news of any kind? It’s been quite a few weeks. Program hasn’t replied to my request for update. <---2/24 Haven't heard anything since the 2/2 finalist email. They said it would be a few weeks, but was curious as well if anyone had heard since then. Emailed for an update last week and didn't get a reply. <---- 2/24 Same here. Wrote to them earlier this week asking for an update but haven't received a reply.

3/2 - notification that offers are sent out today. Congratulations to the people who got it

3/2 - notification of alternate status. Would great appreciate any news/info from offer recipients--and congratulations!

3/16 - just posting that formal rejections went out this afternoon.

1/3: Did anyone receive LOR requests for this one?

1/25: I haven't had LOR go out for this one yet or any news, good or bad. I wish someone knew the typical timeline for this... (x2)

2/2: Nothing yet.

2/4: Perhaps someone should reach out and ask at this point if finalists have been notified? There must be a contact email somewhere.

2/16: I sent an email. I'll post with news when/if any arrives.-------They replied quickly: "Applications are currently in the review process. We expect to have made final decisions by April." This seems like they are still early in the process, so I'm assuming we're all still in.

3/9: Any LOR requests yet? Or any other news? <----No news here (3/9).

3/21: nothing here. <--- no news here (3/28)

Tufts Center for the Humanities Postdoctoral Fellowships (General), 2022-2023

University of Basel – eikones – Three NOMIS Postdoctoral Fellowships – Deadline: 18 Oct. 2021

eikones – Center for the Theory and History of Images invites applications from outstanding junior and senior researchers in the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences for three one-year NOMIS Fellowships beginning September 1, 2022.

Since 2005, eikones has served as a center for graduate and postgraduate research on images. The center is dedicated to the interdisciplinary study of images as instruments of human knowledge and cultural practices. It investigates the functions and effects of images throughout history and in our contemporary society from analytical and empirical perspectives.

The NOMIS Fellowship Program supports groundbreaking research projects related to how images act as models or paradigms in scientific and aesthetic contexts. We are interested in the fundamental ways images serve as instruments for making complex structures visible and accessible to interpretation. In both aesthetic and experimental settings, images often assume an exemplary character, aiding epistemic and learning processes. They fulfill evidential, didactic, and symbolic functions, and thereby produce different forms of knowledge. Relevant topics of research might consider, for example, the history and theory of imaging techniques in the natural sciences; the ideals and stereotypes that shape social contexts and political discussions; or the formation and dissolution of canons, iconographies, character types, and styles in the arts. On the methodological side, the projects should be rooted in a specific research field, and reflect on the relation between their individual discipline and image studies.

The fellowships will allow outstanding scholars and scientists to pursue their research free from teaching and administrative obligations. Fellows receive a generous salary, travel funds, conference funds, and access to excellent academic infrastructure. Applications will be selected based on scholarly achievement and promise, and relevance to the topic of images as models. Preference will be given to excellent young scholars with innovative approaches. Fellows are expected to be in residence at eikones in Basel and to participate in select institutional events.

University of Birmingham (UK:Eng) - Research Fellow (Histories of Sexual Health) - Deadline: 21 Nov. 2021

This 3.5-year PDRA post is attached to Histories of Sexual Health in Britain, 1918–1980. It is open to applicants from any field in health, the humanities or social sciences. Funded by a UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship, Histories of Sexual Health maps historical changes in sexual-health services, campaigns, policies and experiences. The project and its research team are part of the multidisciplinary Social Studies in Medicine group within the Institute of Applied Health Research.

An important component of the project is the production of a major new oral-history collection. The PDRA will work with the PI, Dr Anne Hanley, to interview people who accessed and/or staffed sexual-health clinics between 1948 and 1980. The collection will be deposited with the British Library and will constitute a significant resource for the project team, other researchers and public audiences.

The PDRA’s principal responsibility will be to conduct interviews and to process the resulting data. The PDRA will be expected to undertake substantial travel to conduct interviews with participants around the UK. This will occasionally necessitate overnight stays. As the PDRA will be working with elderly participants, they must be willing to take appropriate safety precautions to protect participants and themselves from Covid. This will likely include conducting some interviews remotely using videoconferencing software. Equipment, travel and subsistence expenses will be covered by the Fellowship. The PDRA will use oral-history data alongside other forms of qualitative and quantitative research to produce high-quality outputs in the broad field of sexual health.

Additionally, the PDRA will work with Dr Hanley to establish a multidisciplinary forum for researchers, health workers, policymakers and activists working in sexual health. The PDRA will also contribute to a programme of RSE workshops and public-engagement events. The costs of the required safeguarding training and DBS checks will be covered by the Fellowship.

Built into this post are opportunities for professional development to diversify and enhance the PDRA’s research skills and expertise. They will receive regular mentoring to ensure that their career needs and objectives are being supported throughout the project. They will report directly to Dr Hanley as their line manager.

The PDRA will be based at the University of Birmingham’s Edgbaston campus. However, there is flexibility for remote working.

The Successful Candidate will be expected to develop research objectives and proposals for their own or joint research and hold a PhD (or near to completion) or have equivalent professional experience in a field relevant to sexual health

Please direct any enquiries to Dr Anne Hanley (a.hanley@bham.ac.uk).

University of California - President's Postdoctoral Fellowship Program - Deadline: 1 Nov. 2021

The University of California President’s Postdoctoral Fellowship Program was established in 1984 to encourage outstanding women and minority Ph.D. recipients to pursue academic careers at the University of California. The current program offers postdoctoral research fellowships and faculty mentoring to outstanding scholars in all fields whose research, teaching, and service will contribute to the diversity and equal opportunity at the University of California. The contributions to diversity may include public service towards increasing equitable access in fields where women and minorities are underrepresented. In some fields, the contributions may include research focusing on underserved populations or understanding inequalities related to race, gender, disability or LGBTQ. The program is seeking applicants with the potential to bring to their academic and research careers the critical perspective that comes from their non-traditional educational background or understanding of the experiences of members of groups historically underrepresented in higher education in the United States.

Fellowships are awarded for research conducted at any one of the University of California’s ten campuses. The award includes a salary starting at approximately $54,540 depending on field and experience, benefits including health insurance and paid vacation/sick leave, and up to $5,000 for research-related and program travel expenses. Each award is for a minimum of 12-months and may be renewable for an additional term upon demonstration of academic/research productivity.

Applicants must receive a Ph.D. or terminal degree from an accredited university before the start of their fellowship. Successful applicants must present documents demonstrating that they are legally authorized to work in the United States. Individuals granted deferred action status under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program are encouraged to apply.

1/4: I haven't received a decision on my application yet. (x5) <-- for which school did you apply? <-- UCLA

1/17: Just based on last year, it doesn't look like anyone begins hearing on this till the second week of February at the earliest.

2/7: Anyone else dreading this upcoming week? I anticipate my heart pounding out of my chest every time I refresh my inbox... <--Yes! If anybody receives a call or comes by any news, please pass it on. Good luck, everyone!

2/9: Just a note that I'm a current UC PPFP fellow and I went back through my received calls around this time last year to see when I got the news from UCOP. FWIW, it was Feb 9 when I got the call from a 510 area code (East Bay CA) number. If you receive a call with this area code, pick up! Best of luck to everyone <3 <<< thank you, current Fellow! You've got many of us unblinkingly staring at our phones all day! 👀 👀 👀>>>

2/11: Can anyone confirm that the first round of offers ship has sailed? :( <<< I was wondering the same. Since no one reported of receiving calls from UC this week, it's also possible that offers have not been sent out. Based on past years, it seems like they make calls on the first or second Monday of February, and this year Valentine's day is the second Monday. But please let us know if anyone received a call this week!

2/11: I received a phone call today and was offered a postdoc position at UCI. << Congratulations! And thanks for letting us know!

2/12: Someone posted on social media indicating they received an offer from Berkeley. I think calls must have been made yesterday. << Saw another social media post on 02/06 by someone joining Ohio State thru PPFP. So UCI, UCBerkley, and Ohio State have already made the calls it seems.>> Don't different campuses (at least within University of California) make calls on a same day?

2/14: Friend of mine in the Social Sciences received an offer via phone call today (Monday) <<< Do you happen to know which campus this offer was from? Thanks! <-- yes, UC Berkeley

2/16: Has anyone heard from UC Santa Cruz? --- Got a call today for UC Santa Cruz and was offered a postdoc (Humanities)! <-- Conratulations!

2/16: Has anyone heard from UC Riverside? I e-mailed but was told they are still reviewing apps (but from the look of things many people have already gotten offers).

2/16; Has anyone heard from UCSD? (x2)

2/16: Has anyone heard from UCLA, specifically Humanities? (x2)

2/18: Has anyone who received a phone call that they were awarded the fellowship get an official award letter yet?

2/22: Has anyone heard from UC Santa Barbara? (x2)

2/23: Has anyone heard from UCLA?

2/23: Has anyone received a rejection email yet? (x3) << I emailed today, they said I was rejected and should have received a message on February 18th. I checked all my folders I never got it. Not sure if anyone else actually received it? << I emailed too and received the same reply. I never got it.

2/28: Has anyone heard from UC Davis? -- 3/15: Yes, I just received a rejection from them today.

03/02: I inquired via email today and received the rejection email <--- Thanks for the update! I guess those of us who haven't heard anything back are either going to receive rejection emails soon or are being considered as alternates or for the Chancellor's program? Any insights much appreciated! <--- emailed and was told I am an "unranked finalist." Alternates come in first if fellowships become available then finalists. Finalists are also up for a Chancellor's Postdoc <--- Thank you for letting us know!

03/04: Emailed today and was told that my application has been given "referred" (as opposed to "alternate" and "unranked finalist") status and is under consideration for the Chancellor's Postdoctoral Fellowship. Does anyone know what the selection process for the Chancellor's is and what having "referred," "alternate," or "unranked finalist" status mean during this process? Thanks!--[3/7] I emailed today and my status is "referred" for the Chancellors.

03/10: UCLA: "While we cannot offer you a President’s Postdoctoral Fellowship award at this time, you are a finalist and will be considered if there are additional openings in the next few weeks."

3/15: Any notifications for the Chancellor's today? <-- Nothing here (UCLA). Last year it seems that Chancellor's offers went out as early as 3/18 and as late as late April. <--received a rejection for both President's and Chancellor's today (UCR)

3/17: Have any of the President's alternates heard back yet? <-- I am an alternate, and have not heard anything. I was able to find out my rank number by reaching out, which helped me think big picture. From that same conversation it seems like I am a couple weeks out from hearing decisions on the Chancellors as well. Just another cycle of waiting and seeing what happens <-- Thank you for the info! It seems that the timing of Chancellor's decisions vary by campus. Do you mind sharing which campus you applied to that may be making decisions in a couple of weeks? <-- UCR, but who knows if we hear back then or later. It seems like last year people were hearing back much later than the shared timeline, hopefully things are moving faster this year since people are back on campus <-- Thank you! Someone shared above that they received rejections from UCR President's and Chancellor's on 3/15, so I guess not all decisions on campus-based Chancellor's are done at once? In any case, hopefully things will be moving faster this year.

3/28: I was previously a finalist for the President's and was given an offer for the Chancellors on 3/25 <-- Congratulations! Thank you for letting us know. Do you mind sharing which campus you got the offer from? Thank you!

4/4: Has anyone heard back (acceptance or denial) from UC Santa Barbara Chancellors? Additionally, have any alternates of the Presidents heard back? --> I was referred to the UCLA Chancellor's and still waiting to hear back.

4/4: Has anyone heard back from UCLA Chancellor's?

4/4: Received an offer for the UCI Chancellor's via email. I was initially ranked as a finalist for the President's.

4/6: Please UC system put us out of our misery! (x2)

4/7: Has anyone heard from UCSC Chancellor's?

4/10 Any news from UCSD Chancellor's OR rejection notifications?

4/12: Yesterday (4/11) it was reported on Twitter that someone was awarded the UCLA Chancellor's via the CSRC (special initiative). Not sure if there are still UCLA Chancellor's awards pending or if they have all been awarded. <-- 4/14: I heard UCLA aims to announce Chancellor's awards by the end of April

05/04: I was notified that I was awarded a UC Chancellor's Postdoc at Riverside. It took a lot longer than I thought it would to hear these results. Hope this helps people figure out timelines this year and next.

05/04: I was an alternate for the Presidents but have heard nothing back since the initial email. I emailed the PFPP office to inquire and they said "All awards have been offered and accepted. An official notification will be sent to all applicants soon." I suppose that means that all Presidents awards are done. I also asked about how I can contact UCSB DEI office about the Chancellors award but they said nothing. <---Got the same response to a question about the UCSD Chancellor's

11/30: Has anyone heard from them?

  • 11/30: No - if you haven't read last year's novel of commentary for this post-doc, it's worth a read. Basically each discipline reached out a different time, only to those for whom they requsted additional materials or interviews (mid-November and January if I'm remembering correctly), before waiting until June to send out a blanket rejection email. Commentators got the impression that they don't know how many fellows they take each year (due to current fellows leaving/not leaving due to the job market). Last year was 7 new fellows out of something like 1400 applications with little contact.
  • 11/30: Usually for Humanities extra material requests go out in mid-Dec, for SS it's much later. Last year they hired 7 fellows but only 2 were Humanities, the rest were SS (and maybe one Arts). The year before they didn't hire any Humanities people. Not sure what will happen this year.
  • 12/19: Has anyone received requests for more materials for Humanities? Wondering if they've gone out?
  • 12/23: still no updates? Usually requests for Humanities have gone out by now.
  • 1/10: Have any SS requests gone out? -- Yes, extra materials requested by SS. [1/10] -- Thanks. Can I ask for which track?
    • 1/11: Any humanities requests yet?
    • 1/11 Nothing yet, but unclear whether European Civilization will be notified separately from Humanities.
      • 1/13: Euro Civ is a SS sequence.
    • 1/11: nothing (Poetry/Human & Human Being/Citizen)
    • 1/13: two years ago on the Wiki it shows no humanities requests or offers. I wonder if they just aren't taking any humanities folx again this year.
  • 1/28: email rejection: not hiring any humanities fellows this year. x2
    • Anyone applying to SS got a rejection yet?
    • Applied SS - European Civilizations - I've not heard anything. No requests, no rejection.
      • Same for SS - Classics/Power (x2)
  • 2/12: Any update after SS material requests?
    • Yes, I got an invitation for a virtual campus visit on 2/15 (Self, Culture, and Society). Interviews from 2/23-3/18 so it's possible not all tracks in SS have been invited yet. Good luck!.
    • Same, East Asian Civilization.
  • 2/23 - Just saw this job posting: https://jobs.chronicle.com/job/452045/assistant-instructional-professor-in-the-social-sciences-core/ Doesn't that sound like the positions offered in this fellowship, only for two years?

University of Chicago, Stevanovich Institute Post Doctoral Fellowship--Deadline October 5, 2021

2022-24 Postdoctoral Researcher at the Rank of Instructor

The Stevanovich Institute on the Formation of Knowledge at the University of Chicago invites applications for two-year Postdoctoral Researchers at the Rank of Instructor, to begin on August 1, 2022. Postdocs will join a community of leading scholars from across the University to study the process of knowledge formation and transmittal from antiquity to the present day and to explore how histories and cultures shape our modern world.

11/2: Any updates?

11/17: I wonder if anyone received reference letter requests for this one? It looks like two years ago, the requests were sent out a month after the deadline.

12/3: In previous years, interview notifications have gone out at this point. Has any received reference letter requests yet? This board seems less active than usual, so it's quite possible that this ship has sailed.

12/3: I haven't heard anything from UChicago. Neither did my references. I personally think that at this point, the silence means a rejection.

12/13: Nothing heard over here -- are we sure that any updates have gone out at all? Conceivably, they could do interviews in January, no?

12/13: I personally haven't given up hope. I emailed them on Nov 30 asking whether recommendation letter requests had gone out, and the response was that the committee would reach out when they needed them. My sense was that the Operations Manager would have said if the requests had already gone out. That was two weeks ago, so who knows what's happened since then, but it does suggest a delay in the usual timeline.

12/13: Heard nothing over here either (and I'm not any of the above posters). Honestly think they are working on a different timeline this year – but who knows.

12/15: rejection email.

  • What did the rejection email say? I haven't heard anything as well. Curious if they just finished the first round of consideration and are sending interview requests before Christmas?
  • ---The rejection was standard, sent by Stevanovich through Interfolio: "strong pool of applicants...we regret to inform...." Check your spam to be sure, but if you didn't get it you will probably receive an email to upload letters, etc.

Has anybody else gotten a rejection email? I haven't heard anything <-- 12/15 (evening) I haven't heard anything either, inc. my spam inbox. But I also haven't heard about any letter requests (for any app, for that matter). Maybe they do rolling rejections/letter requests?

Just wanted to note that the original letter they sent out said that the final decision would be made in February. That seems like a different, longer timeline than that of past years. At this point, given that, I think it unlikely we will hear anything before Christmas but hope I'm wrong. [Adding to this to say that they've said February for the last few years, too--but it still seems like a different timeline.]

12/22: rejection.

To the person above, may I ask whether the rejection notice was the same form letter that went out before? Very unusual how they are doing things this time around.

- Yes, it was a generic rejection: "we enjoyed reading your application but we have a strong pool of applicants. Best of luck."

- Still no news to report on my end (12/22). It seems that they are doing rolling rejections, unless they are narrowing the shortlist?

Same - neither I nor my recommenders have heard anything. I assume at this point that they are narrowing a longlist and will send rec requests to those on a shortlist, who will then be selected for interviews.

12/22: Interviews were conducted three weeks ago.

What's with the weird staggered rejections, then?

12/23: Offers made.

Perplexed as to why some of us have not received rejections. Oh well. Corrupt institute anyway.

12/28: Still haven't received a rejection. I suspect they are keeping some of us around in case they don't get their first choices.

Also haven't received a rejection. Could also be an interfolio glitch, has happened to me before.

1/7: I haven't received a rejection either... but based on previous posts it seems like I'm rejected at this point??

1/8: I emailed around the 23rd to ask if I was missing a rejection, and they did not respond. My money is on an interfolio glitch - this happened with a Dartmouth fellowship a couple years back, too. At first I didn't get a rejection when others had, and then I got maybe 5-6 within a couple days. It's very obnoxious, also obnoxious that they wouldn't clarify over email. <-- Thanks for contacting them!

1/18: Rejection email (x3) - rejection e-mail said they have completed review.---I received this rejection as a second rejection, first was received in mid Dec.

  • Just got one too (hadn't received one before). (x2)
  • 1/23 I still haven't gotten a rejection. Anyone in the same boat?

The program is administered by U-M’s National Center for Institutional Diversity (NCID) in conjunction with LSA academic departments.

  • 12/5 Does anyone have any news/updates about the LSA Collegiate Fellowship? I know the website says campus visit invites will be in January/February, but as far as I can tell it does not say when applicants will be notified.-------12/5: I've heard nothing. Do they do preliminary interviews, or do they go straight to campus visits for finalists?-------12/14: I'm not sure honestly. The information on their website suggests that they go straight to campus interviews. I still haven't heard anything.
  • 12/14: Nothing here yet either x4
  • 1/3: Any news?
  • 1/4 I have not heard anything yet. (x2)
  • 1/6 Nothing yet. (x3)
  • 1/9 Nothing yet. (x4)
  • 1/12 Nothing yet. (x3)
  • 1/13 Rejection. 678 applicants this year. (x6)
    • 1/13 Anyone who didn't receive a rejection? Any info about finalists?
    • 1/14: Are the UM LSA fellowships and the UM NCID fellowships the same thing? I haven't heard any news yet, so I'm wondering if NCID people haven't been notified yet?
    • 1/18 - i haven't heard anything. i didn't receive a campus invite or a rejection. anyone else in that boat? anyone who received a rejection willing to share the email address they got the email from, so i can make sure i didn't receive on. --> The rejection email I received had this address at the bottom of their message: lsacollegiate@umich.edu . Hope this helps!
    • 1/18 - same boat, but check your portal to see if you applied to NCID rather than LSA. They are different despite the same application. If your app says NCID, then it seems it's not the same timeline.

Any news here?

  • Last year, notices (at least for rejections) went out right before Christmas in the mail.
  • anything? I'm on the east coast and checking my mailbox every day :) nothing so far (x4)
  • 12/17 just received a rejection by email ! x4 --> "We received approximately 850 applications for a total of 5 positions...we have had to make very difficult decisions to arrive at the 40 finalists. I am sorry to report that your file is no longer being considered for the fellowship."
  • 12/17: Advanced to finalist status. Based on previous years, final review should take place in late January
  • 12/17: I've received neither a rejection nor a notification of finalist status. Anyone in the same confusing boat? --> If you didn't get a rejection, you're a finalist! At least, that's my understanding from a former Fellow
  • 1/23: STILL nothing on this? Does anyone have a sense from prior years of how/when they contact finalists? --> Typically offers are made on a Friday in mid- to late-January, by phone.
  • 1/24: Offer received via phone call with SoF Chair
  • RIDICULOUS to receive 850 applications yet charge $40 USD per. This PDF truly beginning to seem like a scam. Future applicants beware! <-- I believe it's b/c of a semi-recent law passed in the State legislature requiring all public universities to collect application fees for university programs... which honestly should tell us that it's classified as an education program and not an employment opportunity --> Their website says they have cut the fee for future application cycles: "This fall, the Society of Fellows explored options to eliminate this fee in order to make the fellowship fully accessible. With support from Rackham, there will be no fee to apply to MSF for the 2022 application cycle and moving forward."

1/4: I have not heard anything about my application. <-- If I remember correctly, I think they will contact with the first-round decision by early February, so probably no news until then. <-- Thanks!

2/1: notification by email of semifinalist status

2/1: To the person above, can you share which department you applied for? I wonder if notifications are sent on a department-by-department basis.

2/1 - different person here; also got notification of semifinalist status. Sorry to dash hopes, but the email makes it pretty clear that they have finalized the list of semifinalists (9% of 710 applications, so ca. 64 "semifinalists") so I doubt department matters for notification at this point.

2/1 - Received rejection notification email, along with 641 additional rejection emails addressed to other applicants. Clearly there was some sort of issue with the email distribution... but the sheer absurdity of seeing my inbox bombarded with rejections for a solid 12 minutes really took the edge off the rejection itself. Congrats to those who made it to the semifinal round! Did others who were not selected also receive the deluge of messages? -2/2 I honestly wonder if USC broke any laws here. That's the names of 91% applicants we are talking about...

2/1 - received neither a rejection nor a notification of semi finalist status, but maybe the poster above received the rejection meant for me! IIRC, two years ago they sent everyone a rejection for three days running…

2/1- I've also received neither and I suspect it's the glitch, but to the person who received the 600+ rejections, I just want to say sorry you had to experience that! At the very least it's just an annoyance, but it really just sounds like such an unpleasant experience :/. Sorry you went through that

2/2-Rejection email received. X3

2/14: Notification of finalist status

3/2: I assume offers were already sent? They said they would finish reviewing finalists by the end of February and communicate the six offers in "early March." I am a finalist but have not heard back yet. Any updates anyone? <---I am also a finalist and have yet to hear anything. I would love to know if anyone has heard back yet!

2/26: offer received <--- Congratulations and thank you for the update! I assume this means that those of us who are finalists but did not yet receive an offer will only be notified once those selected have accepted their offers.

3/16: Have any finalists who did not get the award in late February heard back with an alternate offer or a rejection? Thanks!

3/18: Received rejection after having made finalist cut

Yale University - Institute of Sacred Music - Interdisciplinary Fellowships - Deadline: 15 Oct. 2021

The Yale Institute of Sacred Music is an interdisciplinary center where scholars and artists engage in academic and creative work across a variety of fields at the intersection of religion and the arts. Each year the Institute brings a diverse cohort of Long-term Fellows to Yale to pursue scholarly and creative projects that connect with the mission of the Institute and are informed by various interdisciplinary perspectives. ISM Fellows are exceptional scholars and practitioners at all career stages whose projects range from studies of Buddhist chant to African American sacred music, and analyses of Medieval ritual to Jewish art. With access to Yale’s unparalleled resources, ISM Long-term Fellows join a vibrant interdisciplinary community for the academic year where they convene regularly with their cohort to share their work in progress. Fellows also have the option to teach interdisciplinary courses based on their area of research at Yale.

The ISM seeks to prioritize applicants for our annual long-term fellowships in several areas of teaching and research during the current cycle, including projects that study the sacred arts and ritual spheres of African American, Africana, Latinx, and/or Indigenous studies. Two new areas of interest during the current application cycle are projects that study music and the Black church and scholars working at intersection of religion, ecology, and the arts. There is the possibility of multi-year appointments in all of these targeted areas of research.

The work of the Institute touches a broad array of disciplines, including

Anthropology ~ African American Studies ~ Area Studies ~ Art ~ Architecture ~ Composition ~ Creative Writing ~ Ethnomusicology ~ Film Studies ~ History of Art or Architecture ~ Latinx Studies ~ Literature ~ Liturgical Studies ~ Musicology ~ Native American and Indigenous Studies ~ Religious Studies ~ Ritual Studies ~ Sociology ~ Theatre Studies ~ Theology

The Long-term Fellowship application is due on October 15, 2021 for fellowships that begin in Fall 2022. In addition to a competitive stipend, fellows receive research funds and relocation costs. More information and the application can be found at https://ism.yale.edu/ism-fellows. The application will be available online beginning on August 15, 2021. For questions, please contact the ISM Fellows Coordinator at [[9]].

Yale University - Institute of Sacred Music - Post-doctoral Associate - Music and the Black Church

The Yale Institute of Sacred Music, an interdisciplinary graduate center for the study and practice of sacred music, worship, and the related arts, invites applications for a post-doctoral associate position in Music and the Black Church. Alongside conducting their own research, the fellow assigned to the Institute’s interdisciplinary program in Music and the Black Church would be expected to contribute to this new initiative pedagogically, programmatically, and administratively, delivering one course and one symposium during each academic year, along with some student advising, participation in ISM academic gatherings, and other service. Implicit in the program’s title in an interest in various configurations of the relationship between music and the Black church: the genres of music most frequently performed by black Christian congregations, as well as the influence of the Black church on a host of idioms—confessional and commercial, American and global.

While the successful candidate should have well-formed interests and expertise in black sacred music, their PhD need not be in musicology, ethnomusicology, or music theory. Instead, they might have earned degrees in American studies, African American studies, religious studies, or theology.

Candidates must hold the Ph.D. or equivalent degree, earned since 2018, in a relevant discipline, and should have strong potential as an instructor.

Applications for this position should be submitted as part of the Long-term ISM Fellowship program, which are due on October 15, 2021. When applying please note your interest for this specific postdoctoral position on the “Application” page in the online system. The anticipated start date for the fellowship is August 2022. Word on the Street

Can we add a "word on the street" section? Sorry I'm not literate enough to do it myself. Wondering about some postdocs that announcements are expected about soon, like Princeton - which isn't listed above. // Re: fyi, Princeton's SoF's interviews have gone out a couple of weeks ago. // Princeton's SoF: offer extended (12/17). // 1/16 - Did people get their rejections from Princeton's SoF? R1: Yes, on November 16

12/14 It's NEH decision week; if anyone knows whether/when NEH Fellowship winners have gotten an advance heads-up, please post and put the rest of us out of our misery...

12/18 anyone heard word on the Barra Postdoc at the McNeil Center? I know "mid-December" is when decisions should go out. Anybody been invited to interview? Rejected?

12/23 ^ I have the same question re: Barra. Last year (Dec. 2020), they notified on Dec. 16 but no word yet. >>> 12/23 heard response from MCEAS yesterday. Interviewees contacted. So, if you've heard nothing (like me), then you didn't make the first cut. Happy, er, holidays.

1/6: Any word on the U.S. Military Academy (West Point) Teaching Postdoc?

1/11: Any word on the NYU Provost's Postdoctoral Fellowship? --Not yet, I think feb 15 is the date for responses. <-- Thanks for the information! Is that for the final decision, or first-round decision?--> from their FAQs page: Final decisions are announced on or about February 15. <--Ah I see, thank you!-->No word on interviews yet (1/25) <-- do they do interviews and campus visits?--I just dived into old forums, the last one 2018-19 does not have interviews, so perhaps we will just hear back around feb 15. <-- Thanks for researching this - and good luck to all of us! <<< Any update please? (2/16) <<< (2/18) I e-mailed the Fellowship Program and they responded that they are a bit behind the schedule this year, and that decisions will be emailed in about one week to all applicants. I think this implies (based on postings from past years) that finalists were already notified and that rejection emails will be sent out next week. But who knows, << Just got rejection via e-mail (2/22)[3x]

1/11: rejection from Postdoctoral Fellowship in Sexuality Studies at Northwestern University. (x2)

2/3: Anyone heard back after Postdoctoral Fellowship in Sexuality Studies finalist interviews at Northwestern?

2/17: Anyone heard about the final decision for Postdoctoral Fellowship in Sexuality Studies at Northwestern?

3/2: Nothing here

1/20: rejection from Indiana University Postdoctoral Fellow, Center for Research on Race and Ethnicity in Society <-- Hi, did you get an e-mail or a prompt from the portal?

1/21: rejection from Princeton Presidential Postdoctoral Research Fellows Program.

1/25: Princeton-Mellon Initiative in Architecture, Urbanism & the Humanities Postdoc: Requested letters 1/21 (x2) <-- Any updates on this? (3/3)<--No news [3/7]<---any news? [3/21] <--- Still nothing. Based on last year's timeline, I'm assuming interview requests have gone out and the radio silence is indicative of a coming rejection [4/4] <-- Rejected [4/25]<---I have not received anything yet[4/25]<---Also have not heard anything, does anyone know if there have been acceptances or interviews at this point? [4/27]<---I have not seen or heard anything, I was hoping this week [5/2]<--rejected [5/16]

1/31: Does anyone know what's happening with University of Houston's Postdoctoral fellowship in Classical Studies? [rejection x1]

2/2: Any news about Princeton's Postdoctoral Program in Latin American Studies (PLAS)?--No word yet (Feb 3) R2: Last year finalists were contacted for interviews in the second week of Feb and rejections were sent shortly after.<-- No word here, any news? (Feb 15) (x3) Nothing here, I imagine that a rejection is imminent (March 1) <--- I emailed and was told that they already contacted finalists for interviews.<--- That's good to know thank you! --Thanks for letting us know--[3/31] Rejection email.

2/17: Does anybody know if Harvard can sponsor an H1B visa for a Postdoc? How long in advance does the process need to be started?

2/28: anyone here heard an update from the Danforth Center (WashU)? -- Nothing here, but these positions usually go out in February so I think this one is a lost cause too (3/2) -- Any updates? (3/9)--Last week they responded to my inquiry and said the committee was still meeting and deciding (3/11)

3/1: Any news on Princeton's Shelby Cullom Davis Center postdoctoral position? --Nothing here (3/1)--Rejection received via email (3/2) (x3) -- Sounds like some rejections went out this week? Haven’t heard anything either way, maybe they’re coming in waves? (3/2)

3/2: Any news on UVA Rising Scholars Program?-- interviewed with a department last month, waiting to hear back (3/3) <-- if you don't mind asking, did you apply to the mellon-funded component of the program? Asking because I thought there was no interview for the mellon component--but maybe they are now doing interviews for all? (3/3) Yes, I applied to a specific department in the arts and humanities (which I understand as part of the mellon-funded component), and then was asked to interview by that department (3/3) <-- Got it, thanks for the answers!-------3/3: So if we applied to the Race and Social Justice track and weren't interviewed we're out? But, if we applied to the general fellowship we're still in? <--I'm assuming they are doing interviews no matter which track you applied to. In a past year's posting, someone wrote that they got the fellowship without interview (through the mellon component, which also requires RJE research topic), so I thought there was no interview for the mellon applicants. But this year, it seems like selected applicants from this group have been interviewed, too.--3/3: Has anyone from the general track been interviewed yet? 3/12-Still no word about U Virginia Rising Scholars General Fellowship interviews? 3/21: Some offers went out already, although different departments may be on slightly different timelines. 3/21 Ok, good to know. I'm assuming rejection at this point then, since they're far along. ------ 4/8: I applied for the Women's and Gender Studies section and received my rejection email today. 4/27: note of warning for applicants/prospective fellows; there are measurable benefits of the program and the mentoring provided is very good, but the deans overseeing the fellowship will lie to you constantly.

3/3 Any news on Rutgers University's Center for Latin American Studies (CLAS) for postdoctoral position?

3/4: Any news on UCLA Jacqueline & Eugen Weber postdoctoral fellowship? There is zero information on their general timeline, how many fellowships they award, whether they do interviews, etc. Any info would be appreciated! 4/13 - I applied for this too; crickets. Has anyone heard anything?? -- 4/14: A few weeks ago, I e-mailed them about the application status, and they wrote back that they had just selected their postdoc, and that they were drafting an e-mail to send out to everyone. That e-mail never came, but I think they have completed their search.

3/4: Any news on UT Castañeda postdoc?-- (3/16) I interviewed with them last week, waiting to hear back--(3/16) thank you for letting us know!

3/21: Has anyone heard from GHI Binational Visiting Tandem Program?

4/2: Any news on Harpur College? --- 4/10: Wondering the same. Haven't heard a thing yet. 4/20: Still nothing? 4/22 the Binghamton post earlier in this thread for the Diversity Postdoc is the same thing, isn't it? If so, people have already been asked for more materials.

4/5: Not on here, but has anyone heard back about Columbia's Harriman Center Postdoc? 4/13 no. 4/21 also nothing. 5/4 no news. 5/10 still no news.

4/10: Any news on Rice University's postdoc in Study of Women, Gender & Sexuality?
