This is an open rank position with a joint appointment in the School of Digital Sciences. The tenure home for this position would be in one of the other schools in the college, depending on the successful candidate’s disciplinary background: the School of Communication Studies, the School of Journalism & Mass Communication, the School of Information, or the School of Visual Communication.

The School of Information Technology (SoIT) at the University of Cincinnati seeks to hire two tenure-track Assistant Professors in areas related to Information Technology including Software Applications, IT Infrastructure, Game Development, Cybersecurity, and Applied Machine Learning, to start in August 2019. The Disability, Aging, and Technology (DAT) cluster is a partnership between six colleges: the College of Health Professions and Sciences, the College of Nursing, the College of Sciences, the College of Engineering and Computer Science, the Rosen College of Hospitality Management, the College of Medicine, and the Nanoscience Technology Center at UCF. The DAT cluster seeks transdisciplinary engagement in research and education to link health and wellness interventions with technology applications so that effective and feasible health, behavioral, and assistive technologies can be used with diverse populations. This is an interdisciplinary position that will be expected to strengthen both the cluster and a chosen tenure home department and may include a combination of joint appointments. For this position, the anticipated tenure home is either the Department of Computer Science in the College of Engineering and Computer Sciences or the Department of Psychology in the College of Sciences. Job description The assistant or associate professors we are looking for will strengthen the research on Explainable Artificial Intelligence in the field of human-agent collaboration and relates to the research portfolio of the Interactive Intelligence group. Their research contributes to the mission of Delft University of Technology: combining science, design and engineering in a socially responsible manner. They will supervise PhD and MSc students, acquire external funding, teach and develop new courses at undergraduate and graduate levels in Artificial Intelligence and Computer Science, and undertake managerial tasks as required. They will actively collaborate with other research institutes, industry, NGOs or GOs.

Topics We aim to strengthen our research in Explainable Artificial Intelligence in the field of human-agent collaboration. Relevant topics of research include, but are not limited to, social robotics, conversational agents, affective computing, normative, reflective and strategic reasoning by applying Knowledge Representation techniques and/or Machine Learning. Faculty | Department | Research Group The Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science (EEMCS) is known worldwide for its high academic quality and the social relevance of its research programmes. The faculty's excellent facilities accentuate its international position in teaching and research. Within this interdisciplinary and international setting the faculty employs more than 1100 employees, including about 400 graduate students and about 2100 students. Together they work on a broad range of technical innovations in the fields of sustainable energy, telecommunications, microelectronics, embedded systems, computer and software engineering, interactive multimedia and applied mathematics.

The department of Intelligent Systems (INSY) conceptualizes computer science methodologies to sense, abstract, learn, reason, elicitate and adapt data and their meaning in ways that respect human values in order to increase human effectiveness in well-being and social innovation. At the heart of the department is therefore the research and teaching in computer science theory, algorithms and solutions for information processing systems that support humans (e.g. robotics), new products (e.g. internet services), and science (e.g. biology)    

The positions are embedded in the Interactive Intelligence group that focuses on interaction between humans, agents, robots and other intelligent systems. We have a strong research track record on intelligent interactive agents that can learn, plan and reason under uncertainty and have the social skills to use and understand emotions and norms. These agents may serve as coach, decision support agent, or companion, and are used in a wide variety of applications including therapy, health, decision making, and entertainment. We contribute to the Delft Design for Values Institute, the Delft Robotics Institute, and the Delft Data Science Institute. 


Requirements We welcome applicants that have a clear vision on how their research fits with the aim of Explainable AI and the research in the interactive intelligence group, see topics. Candidates should have a PhD in Artificial Intelligence or related field, are active researchers with a multidisciplinary mindset, and are enthusiastic team players. Having experience in university level teaching and applying for research funding would be appreciated.  

Conditions of employment Candidates at the level of Assistant Professor are offered a tenure-track position.  At the start of the tenure-track you will be appointed as Assistant Professor for the duration of six years. Section leader, department leaders and you will agree upon expected performance and (soft) skills. You will receive formal feedback on performance and skills during annual assessment meetings and the mid-term evaluation. If the performance and skills are evaluated positively at the end of the tenure track, you will be appointed in a permanent Assistant Professor position.

KOCHI UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY[]

The Center for Human-Engaged Computing (CHEC) at Kochi University of Technology is recruiting one Research Associate (Post-doctoral Researcher). CHEC (http://xrenlab.com) which is directed by Prof. Xiangshi Ren (http://xiangshiren.com) is one of the world’s leading HCI labs with a variety of research interests and is active in the world-wide HCI community. HEC-related studies are concerned with the development of synergized interaction between humans and computers with a particular focus on innate human potential and human well-being. Currently, we focus on the study of engagement, aging issues, and computational aesthetics. 

We are seeking outstanding candidates with the relevant background in Human-Computer Interaction, Computational Modeling, Data Sciences, Cognitive Science, or Machine Learning.

A strong interest in applying computational methods to human-computer interaction is required (e.g., human behavior modeling, computational user interface design). Technical experiences in areas such as inverse modeling, deep learning, generative models, and reinforcement learning would be very useful. Applicants should have excellent programming skills (e.g., Python)., and a solid history of publications at top conferences such as CHI, UIST or the top-tier conference in applicants’ fields.

The applicant will also assist in the supervision of a research team of mutually supportive Ph.D., MSc, and BS. students in various projects 

The applicant may be required to support the center’s director in managing some administration work.

Fluent English writing and presentation skills are essential.

SALARY AND CONTRACT TERMS

The expected starting annual compensation for postdocs is 4,200,000 JPY (around 300,000 JPY per month), accommodation allowance 300,000 JPY/year, and the applicant will receive a research budget of 500,000 JPY/year. The contract includes occupational social Insurance. The employment period will be three years with no extension, and a mid-term evaluation will be conducted after the second year.
