Barrett, the Honors College at Arizona State University is expanding its faculty and invites applications for a position in the core Honors faculty. The faculty members of Barrett are non-tenure track Lecturers, Senior Lecturers, and Principal Lecturers with competitive salaries and generous benefits; most are on three-year renewable and rolling appointments. The main teaching responsibility rests on a rigorous two-semester interdisciplinary seminar course, The Human Event, in which students examine important ideas from earliest writings to the present. Special attention is given to critical thinking and argumentative writing skills. In addition, faculty members teach upper-division seminars, and mentor honors students throughout their four years in independent studies, individual conferences, theses, and other forms of scholarly achievement.
Barrett attracts many of the top students in the country and provides them with an enriched academic experience that challenges them and enables them to become better citizens. The typical Barrett freshman is in the top five percent of their high school class.
We seek to fill a full-time, multi-year faculty position whose primary responsibility will be to teach the first-year Human Event seminar. The position begins August 2015; the nine-month salary will be based on education and experience.

We are looking for someone to teach required freshman courses in expository writing and direct the freshman writing program that offers courses within the Liberal Arts Department. We regard expository writing as a vehicle for analysis, the engine of clear communication, and the skill that enables the creative use of language in visual and other arts. English is not offered as a major. The successful candidate will demonstrate an ability to lead and organize a large writing program. Candidate must demonstrate success in working with diverse populations of students.
In addition to activities related to freshman writing courses, the successful candidate may also teach other literature, creative writing, or literature-oriented interdisciplinary electives. Additionally, the successful candidate will act as liaison with tutors and writing coaches in the college’s academic support center. Faculty serve on governance committees. The Gallatin School of Individualized Study and New York University invites applications for a full-time clinical assistant professor to teach in our first-year and writing program, beginning on September 1, 2015. We seek scholars in the social sciences and humanities who have extensive experience and success in teaching first year courses, critical argument and expository writing (including ethnographic writing), introductory social theory, and/or research methods. While the particular focus of scholarship is open, we are especially interested in interdisciplinary scholars whose work bridges the humanities and the social sciences. Areas of focus might include studies of race, gender and sexuality, urban studies, migration and comparative religion, globalization and postcolonialism.
The position is a non-tenure track renewable contract line and the candidate would become an on-going member of the full-time faculty of the school. The teaching load for this position is four courses a year: at least two theme-based first year writing or first year interdisciplinary seminars as well as upper level interdisciplinary seminars based on the applicants interest and expertise. In addition, the position involves supervising a co-curricular or administrative project with students often related to the applicants area of expertise, as well as serving as an advisor for 20-25 students.

Ability to teach an interdisciplinary American Studies course is required, as is experience in teaching writing as a tool and extension of thought, a means by which students integrate and articulate what they have learned. Expertise in teaching Comparative Literature, Global History, Cultural Studies, International Relations, and/or Economics—in both face-to-face and online classrooms—is a plus. Teaching experience with advanced students preferred. Preparation for teaching an ethnically diverse student population as demonstrated by training and experience; experience in use of educational technology; commitment to curriculum design and willingness to participate in residential school programs including social, recreational, and advisory responsibilities at times other than usual school hours; willingness to do some evening instruction.
Description of Work: Founded in 1980, NCSSM is a state-supported residential and online high school for students who have demonstrated exceptional talent or interest in science, mathematics, and technology. Since the School's inception, the humanities have been an integral part of an NCSSM education. NCSSM's Program in the Humanities includes university-level interdisciplinary courses as well as a variety of sophisticated electives. The center of our program is an American Studies course, the core experience for all juniors. American Studies doubles as the base of the NCSSM Writing Program, which emphasizes writing in context. The Department of Humanities features a content-rich curriculum that is designed to foster critical thinking and writing-as-reasoning.
These are full-time, ten-month appointments in the Department of Humanities, with full benefits through the State of North Carolina. Humanities Faculty are responsible for developing and teaching innovative and engaging humanities curricula, with a focus on interdisciplinary studies, in NCSSMs residential and/or highly interactive online and video-conferencing programs. These positions report to the Dean of Humanities and are responsible for providing instruction for American Studies, other interdisciplinary cultural studies courses, and humanities electives. Haverford College invites applications for a three-year visiting Assistant Professor (with possibility of renewal) in its Peace, Justice and Human Rights Program. The position is open to scholars at all pre-tenure levels with training in the humanities or social sciences who focus in their work on questions of justice, peace and conflict, human rights and related fields, with special attention to ethics or ethical leadership. Candidates should be able to teach an applied ethics course in issues of global justice and/or an introductory course on peace, justice and human rights, as well as offer more specialized courses. The teaching load is five courses per year. Successful candidates will be given resources to plan and host a symposium oriented around themes of ethics and justice in the second year of the appointment, during which the teaching load will be reduced to four courses to accommodate the responsibilities of preparing and hosting the symposium. Candidates for the position should have a Ph.D and demonstrated evidence of strong teaching at all levels of the curriculum to a diverse student body. ABD candidates may apply but must also provide assurance of completion of the degree by September 1, 2015 and evidence of relevant teaching experience. The UC Davis Graduate Group in Cultural Studies is pleased to announce a two-year Visiting Assistant Professorship for 2015-2017 in Comparative Border Studies supported by a grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. Applicants should be specialists in research on one or more border zones, such as: US-Mexico, Israel-Palestine, Afghanistan-Pakistan, North- South Korea, East-West Germany, North Africa-Europe, etc. We are interested in promoting comparative and transnational research so these perspectives are preferred, but not required. The specific field is open, but interdisciplinary orientation in humanities and qualitative social sciences is preferred.
Our new three-year Mellon Research Initiative in Comparative Border Studies focuses on the making, unmaking, crossing, and fortification of borders—national, regional, colonial--and aims to rethink notions of border crossing as well as containment within different regional studies contexts as a result of transregional, comparative dialogue. The initiative is organized around three major themes: 1) human rights, citizenship and racialized belonging; 2) mobility, militarization and containment; 3) protest cultures and transnational solidarities. Research interest in one or more of these areas is preferred. We will consider junior scholars including recent PhDs and ABDs (the degree must be completed by July 1, 2015).
The Mellon Visiting Assistant Professor will participate in the activities of the Mellon Research Initiative in Comparative Border Studies. Duties include teaching three courses per year, and serving as co-organizer of colloquia and other events involving faculty and graduate students. The appointment will be housed in an appropriate department or program in the humanities or (qualitative) social sciences, in accordance with the background of the successful applicant (fields may include Asian American studies, Chicana/o studies, History, English, Spanish, Middle East studies, South Asian studies, German, Native American studies, American studies, Anthropology, among others).
The Mellon Visiting Assistant Professor will receive an annual stipend of $55,000, plus health benefits, research funding, and relocation funds.
