CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY, LONG BEACH (Tenure-track position): Assistant Professor of Language and Culture 

CSULB Department of Linguistics has a tenure-track opening for an Assistant Professor in Sociolinguistics/Language and Culture. Required qualifications: Ph.D. in Linguistics, Applied Linguistics, Sociolinguistics, Linguistic Anthropology or related field; degree at time of application or official notification of completion of the doctoral degree by August 1, 2020; training in sociolinguistics and qualitative approaches to the study of language and culture; potential for excellence in teaching at the college level; evidence of or potential for successful research and publication; and demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population. Preferred: A research agenda that includes the sociolinguistic study of a language other than English or a non-standard variety of English in a minority or underserved community.

The new hire will teach ​​introductory courses in linguistics, upper division undergraduate courses in language and culture, and graduate  (M.A.) level seminars in sociolinguistics, ethnography of communication, special topics and other courses, depending upon candidate’s expertise and departmental needs. Other responsibilities include: mentoring undergraduate and graduate students in research projects and serve on thesis committees; maintaining an active research agenda in area of specialization leading to publications and presentations; and participating in service to the department, college, university, and community.
