The Department of Anthropology & Middle Eastern Cultures (AMEC) at Mississippi State University seeks applications for the position of Department Head to begin July 1, 2013. AMEC (http://amec.msstate.edu/) is a young, rapidly growing department. Undergraduates receive basic grounding in four-field anthropology. The applied M.A. program has two tracks: archaeology/bioarchaeology and cultural anthropology. Faculty areas include environmental anthropology and archaeology, human skeletal analysis, household and settlement pattern archaeology, and medical anthropology. Applied aspects include cultural resource management (CRM), forensic anthropology, isotope studies, geophysics, and human-environment interaction. The Department Head will serve on graduate committees and as major professor for a limited number of students. Teaching expectation is one course per semester. AMEC is in the College of Arts & Sciences, which includes 14 academic departments and eleven programs. The department is housed in the Cobb Institute of Archaeology (http://www.cobb.msstate.edu/) , an endowed institute with office and lab space, a research library, a museum and a CRM office. The Head of AMEC will work in consultation with the Director of the Cobb Institute to coordinate activities and meet shared goals of the Department and Institute. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Anthropology or Archaeology and have or be eligible for tenure at the rank of Professor. Candidates should have a substantial publication record, experience with grants and contracts, and a research agenda complementing the department’s B.A. program in Anthropology and M.A. program in Applied Anthropology. The School of Teaching & Learning is seeking a nine-month, full-time, tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor with a record of scholarship and a program of research with a focus on bilingualism and biliteracy in early childhood / elementary education. In particular we are looking for candidates who focus on young children’s development of biliteracy and bilingualism across classroom, family, and community contexts. We seek a colleague with a background in language and literacy development, the ethnography of communication, discourse analysis, sociolinguistics, linguistic anthropology, child language development, or related fields.

The School of Teaching and Learning values collaborative scholarship among colleagues within the School, the College, and across the University. The person in this position will seek and establish strong ties with colleagues
within and across the College and University as well as with educators in local school districts and early childhood centers. The School has a commitment to scholarship, teaching and service that emphasizes social justice, diversity, and educational equity.

Preferred qualifications include candidates who are bilingual and biliterate in Spanish and English, who have experience working in or with urban schools and communities, who have experience employing advanced technologies in their teaching and scholarship, and who have experience as a teacher of young children.

Assistant professor, linguistic anthropology (Bronxville, NY). We seek an entry- level scholar-teacher whose area of geographic expertise is Insular Southeast Asia. Must have a strong methodological training in functional linguistics and fieldwork/empirical research in linguistic anthropology. Areas of research should include, language ideologies, multilingualism, language politics and planning, colonial linguistics, ethno-poetics, indigeneity and endangered languages, as well as the interface between language and ethics and the relation between communicative practices and local theories of agency.
The applicant must be able to teach college students and work with students in individual tutorials as well as share administrative duties. The successful candidate will develop curricular initiatives in specialized areas and must therefore have a wide background. The areas to be included: linguistic anthropology, performance studies and aesthetics, general linguistics, ordinary language philosophy and pragmatics (including metapragmatics), conversation analysis and semiotics.
Completed Ph.D. in Anthropology, in hand, prior teaching experience, and interdisciplinary interests required. University of Notre Dame - Asst. or Assoc. Professor - Oct. 29[]

The Department of Anthropology at the University of Notre Dame seeks a linguistic anthropologist to join our collegial, dynamic four-field department. This tenure-track or tenured position is at the assistant or associate professor level, and begins in August 2013. We are especially interested in enthusiastic scholar-teachers who can offer courses in linguistic anthropology, verbal art, pragmatics, language ideology, language socialization, language and power, language and identity, language and gender, multilingualism, or similar areas with a significant socio-cultural component. The successful applicant must be able to communicate with colleagues and students without linguistics training. Geographic focus is open, but excellent teaching skills, an ongoing established ethnographic research program, and strong scholarly promise are required. Ph.D. must be in hand by August 2013.

The Sociology-Anthropology Department invites applications for a tenure track position in linguistic anthropology beginning in the Fall of 2013. The successful candidate must be able to offer introductory and upper-level courses in linguistic anthropology, contribute courses to the Linguistics program, and teach courses in anthropological methods and introductory sociocultural anthropology. Geographic area is open, but preference will be given to applicants who complement existing areas within the department. Appointment will be at the Assistant Professor level. The Anthropology Department at Northern Arizona university seeks a full time, non-tenure track Lecturer position with an emphasis in sociocultural and linguistic anthropology. This is a non-tenure eligible regular faculty position focused on our undergraduate liberal studies program and anthropology major. The position includes a 4/4 teaching load, with some flexibility for revised assignment to meet other departmental needs, including curriculum development, research (especially with undergraduates), and service duties.

What's going on with this wiki? Seems like no one is using it. And, the someone/s who are using it seem to be deleting and re-adding material. It's a shame that it's not more of a useful resource.

I have been on the market for longer than I care to remember and this is the least helpful year as far as the wikis go. I find it hard to believe that there aren't as many people as usual on the market, so I guess people have decided to play their cards close to their chests or else the committees are very slow and uncommunicative this year. I have heard NOTHING from anywhere I applied, so it would be a relief to know if others are receiving news. Oh well. This is my last year on the market.

Response: I undid a mass deletion that completely cleared the page. I think the mass deletion was a mistake by someone in a different field trying to set up a page for electrical engineering, not sabotage. Still, yes, it would be nice if this page were more useful.

Hi- anyone heard from Middlebury or Notre Dame? What is the skype interview from 12/10?

Middlebury and Notre Dame both did interviews at the AAAs and Middlebury seems to be doing skype interviews now with people who didn't attend AAAs. No word for me from the SC after a preliminary interview either. (12/11)
