Lawrence University (Appleton, WI) -- Cultural/Linguistic Anthropology (Nov 8)

Lawrence University, a selective, residential, liberal arts college and conservatory, seeks applicants for a linguistic anthropologist specializing in South Asia for a tenure-track appointment at the level of assistant professor starting September 2014. A successful candidate will be expected to teach Language and Culture, additional intermediate and advanced courses in linguistic anthropology and South Asian ethnography, Introduction to Cultural Anthropology, and contribute to required theory and ethnographic methods courses. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to liberal arts teaching, including Lawrence University's signature Freshman Studies program, and be able to contribute to one or more of Lawrence's interdisciplinary programs such as Linguistics, Ethnic Studies, Gender Studies, East Asian Studies, Film and Media Studies, or Environmental Studies.

MacEwan University (Edmonton, Canada) -- Cultural / Linguistic Anthropology (Oct. 7)

Tenure-track Assistant Professor position starting January 1st or July 1st 2014.

The Department of Anthropology, Economics and Political Science at Grant MacEwan University invites applications for a full-time continuing track faculty position in Anthropology at the rank of Assistant Professor commencing January 1 or July 1, 2014. We are seeking a Socio-Cultural Anthropologist; the area of specialization is open. Ability to teach both junior and senior courses in Linguistic Anthropology is required and preference will be given to those whose interests complement the current faculty strengths.

Candidates must have a PhD (or a solid indication of imminent completion) and must demonstrate excellence (or promise of excellence) in teaching and a commitment to research.

St. Lawrence University - TT Asst. Professor, Linguistic Anthropology (Nov. 7)

The Department of Anthropology at St. Lawrence University invites applications for a tenure-track position as Assistant Professor in linguistic anthropology, beginning August 2014. Qualified candidates will teach our required introductory course Language and Human Experience, as well as upper-level seminars in linguistic and cultural anthropology. Course load is three per semester; the particular array of remaining courses is open but should contribute to the offerings of a four-field anthropology department. Geographic area should ideally complement existing department strengths in Africa and South Asia, with a preference for the Islamic world. Candidates with Ph.D. in hand preferred, but ABD candidates may be considered.

University of Nevada, Reno - Assistant Professor, Linguistic Anthropology (Nov. 1)

The Department of Anthropology at the University of Nevada, Reno invites applications for a tenure-track position in linguistic anthropology with a preferred focus on indigenous communities; geographic area open, but preference for the Western United States. We seek a scholar who will develop an active research agenda and contribute to the department's undergraduate and graduate programs. The successful candidate is expected to teach introductory, upper division, and graduate courses in linguistic anthropology in line with his or her specialties; the candidate will also be expected to occasionally teach undergraduate courses in cultural anthropology, such as an introduction to cultural anthropology. This position will contribute to a growing and dynamic anthropology department with teaching, research, and service relevant to our region and diverse population and to the University's interest in publicly-engaged scholarship.

Required Qualifications: Strong evidence of research potential and teaching promise; ethnographic approach to studying language; specialization in linguistic anthropology demonstrated through research/publications; ability to teach courses in linguistic and cultural anthropology. Ph.D. must be in hand by July 1, 2014.

Preferred Qualifications: Ph.D. in anthropology strongly preferred, but candidates in related disciplines such as sociolinguistics, linguistics, Native American Studies, or similar may also apply. Preference will be given to candidates with a focus on indigenous communities in the Western United States or to those with strong potential to develop research with local indigenous communities. Desirable areas of specialization include but are not limited to: language and media, historical linguistics, indigenous knowledge, language maintenance, bilingual education.
