Word on the Street[]

12/6: Has anyone heard back from Harvard (Historical Linguistics) or UNC (Hispanic Linguistics/Sociolinguistics)?

12/5: Did anyone apply to the RIT computational linguistics position and if so, have you heard anything?

  • R1: Yes, and I haven't heard anything. (12/5)

12/4: Don't know where to post this job, but want to start a thread for news on UCSB's "Literature and Mind" assistant professor opening, deadline Nov. 25

12/4: Has anyone heard from UC Davis for their socio position?

12/4: Anyone heard from Cornell-Syntax? They had requested reference letters some time mid-Nov (deadline nov 22) and with thanksgiving in between I don't know if they have not yet gone through the reference letters or perhaps they did and I never received anything.

  • R1: I also haven't heard anything since the reference request.
  • R2: Same here, got the reference request and have not heard from them since.

12/3: Anyone heard from UCSD now? I know somebody asked this last month but want to check again in case there are updates. (Applications were required by Sept so it has been a while).

  • R1 (=previous asker): Still nothing on my end.
  • R2: I haven't, I know a few people who also applied and I don't think they've heard back yet either.

12/2: Anyone heard from JHU's language position(s)?

  • R1: I didn't hear anything.

12/2: Rejection from Princeton CogSci - shortlist has been made.

  • R1: I haven't received the rejection (or interview invitation) email. What time was this sent?
  • R2: Same, I have received neither a rejection nor an interview invite.
  • R3: Same here. Perhaps they're requesting letters at this point, without contacting candidates?
  • R4: Rejection received on 12/3. (R5: same) (R2: +1)

12/2: Has anyone heard from Stony Brook or UIUC for their phonetics position?

  • R1: No UIUC, but Stony Brook asked for letters by 11/30.
    • Hi R1 -- I remember that letters are requested via Interfolio for Stony Brook during the submission. Did the search committee reach out for letter separately later in addition to the interfolio request?

12/1: Anyone heard from Pomona for their Experimental/Computational position?

  • R1: I received a Zoom interview request 11/29
  • R2: Like R1, I received a zoom interview request bck in 11/29 for the week of 12/9-13.

  • R1: Not me - In fact I have not heard from any computational jobs, and I applied to most of them.

11/4: Anyone heard from CSULB or UCSD yet? I only got a rejection from Carleton and a reference request from Cornell for 'selected applicants' so far

  • R1: haven't heard from anywhere besides Cornell, got the same email (didn't apply CSULB)
  • R2: I'm assuming this is for the UCSD Comp Ling/Socio position? I just looked up the position and they extended the review date to Nov 4th. So I'm assuming they weren't happy with the pool. I haven't heard anything and someone else I know who also applied also hasn't heard anything from them.
  • R3: No word from either. (11/14)
